2 BEFORE YOU GET STARTED This installation guide is for installers with electrical experience. If you re having trouble, a professional electrician will be able to help. IDENTIFY YOUR WIRING TYPE Count the number of switches that control the same load (light, fan, etc.). Single pole wiring has one switch controlling one load -way wiring has two switches controlling one load 4-way wiring has three or more switches controlling one load NEW HOME? Continue to 5 REPLACING EXISTING SWITCHES? Continue to TURN OFF THE POWER Identify the appropriate circuit breaker at your panel and flip it to the off position Deako Backplate Deako Faceplate Deako Simple Switch Deako Smart Switch Deako Smart Dimmer UNINSTALL ORIGINAL SWITCHES WHAT AM I GOING TO NEED? REMOVE FACEPLATE & SCREWS PULL SWITCH OUT Using a screwdriver, remove all screws attaching Pull the switch straight out so that you can see Screwdriver Voltage Tester (optional) Wire Cutter Wire Stripper the faceplate & switch to the junction box the wires & where they are attached to the switch DANGER - ELECTRICAL HAZARD Turn off power before servicing

3 4 IDENTIFY YOUR WIRES 5 WIRE YOUR BACKPLATES Connect wires using the diagram that corresponds with your wiring type. IDENTIFY GROUND & NEUTRAL WIRES Your ground wire will be either green or bare copper; you may have more /8 than one in the junction box. Your neutral wire will be white and you will likely have more than one in the junction box. STRIP EXISTING WIRES Strip the existing wires to /8. Do not shorten Deako Backplate TRIM WIRES Where you see in the wiring diagrams, cut the wire flush to the plastic FLIP SWITCH TO OFF & TURN THE POWER BACK ON wires IDENTIFY LIVE WIRE SINGLE-POLE WIRING Using a non-contact voltage tester, touch each wire to identify the live wire; this is your hot-in. The remaining wire is your load. Hot-in If there are more than wires (including ground) connected to your switch, these are likely travelers and are part of a -way or 4-way circuit. TROUBLE IDENTIFYING WIRES? If you re unable to identify each of the wires, a professional electrician will be able to help. HOW TO REPLACE AN EXISTING SWITCH -WAY WIRING -WAY WIRING If you are replacing an existing switch, we recommend that you follow these steps to avoid confusion. i. Trim any wires as noted in the wiring diagrams Hot-in Line Traveler ii. Transfer one wire at a time before moving on to the next a. Identify a wire connected to the existing switch then remove only that wire from the switch Traveler b. Connect that wire using a wire-nut to the appropriate wire on the Deako Backplate (use the diagrams below to identify the correctly colored wire) iii. We recommend starting with the ground wire, followed by the neutral wires and hot-in wire. Finally connect the load wire or traveler wires (only in -way & 4-way circuits) last. -WAY & 4-WAY WARNING Deako Smart Dimmers must only be installed at the with Deako Smart Switches on the same circuit. 4 4-WAY WIRING 7 INSTALL BACKPLATES Hot-in -Way Line Traveler 4-Way Line Traveler i. Carefully manage wires into the junction box ii. Once backplate can be pressed flush to wall, screw the Deako Backplate into the junction box using included screws Traveler Traveler 4 iii. Install the faceplate by snapping it onto the backplate iv. Turn the power on IF YOU HAVE INSTALLED SMART OR DIMMER SWITCHES IN A -WAY OR 4-WAY CIRCUIT, continue to 8 -WAY & 4-WAY WARNING Deako Smart Dimmers must only be installed at the LOAD LOCATION of the circuit. Deako Simple Switches cannot be mixed with Deako Smart Switches on the same circuit. 8 -WAY & 4-WAY SETUP HAVE A DEAD-END -WAY? See wiring diagrams on PAGE 8 6 INSTALL SWITCHES PRESS & HOLD SWITCH Press & hold one of the switches in the circuit until the switch flashes If nothing happens, try the next switch in the circuit (the switch is not powered) INSTALLING A DIMMER IN A -WAY OR 4-WAY CIRCUIT? Install Deako Smart Switches in any line locations & Line Line SMART SMART SMART SWITCH SWITCH DIMMER PUT SWITCH INTO PAIRING MODE To put the switch into multi-way pairing mode, tap flashing) (the icon will begin only install a Deako Smart Dimmer in the load location REPEAT S & FOR EACH SWITCH Repeat steps - for each switch in the circuit. The icon must be flashing on every switch in the circuit before continuing to the next step. 4 PAIR SWITCHES i. Confirm that the icon is flashing on every switch in the circuit ii. Once confirmed, tap on the switch in the load location INSTALL SWITCH INTO BACKPLATE ALIGN BLUE TAB WITH SLOT LOCK SWITCH While pressing the switch inwards, push in the blue tab iii. Wait for all switches in the circuit to stop flashing (setup is complete) If switches continue flashing for more than one minute, there might be a problem. To exit pairing mode, press and hold the switch for 6 seconds. Then before retrying, factory reset each switch in the circuit (see HOW TO FACTORY RESET A DEAKO SWITCH on PAGE 0). 5 6

5 NOW THAT YOU RE DONE WITH INSTALLATION... Hot-in/Common DEAD-END -WAY WIRING FOR SIMPLE SWITCHES Line Traveler Traveler DOWNLOAD THE DEAKO APP ADD YOUR SWITCHES TO THE DEAKO APP TO... Control your lights from your phone Create Zones, Scenes, Timers & Schedules to customize your smart home REMOTE SWITCH INSTALLATION Deako Smart & Dimmers Switches can be remotely paired so that you can control a load (light, fan, etc.) from a switch that is not hardwired to it. This is also a solution when installing dead-end -ways. After installing your switches as shown in the diagram below, follow 8 to complete remote switch setup. REMOTE SWITCH WIRING for smart & dimmer switches SET UP YOUR DEAKO CONNECT Follow the instructions in the Deako App to set up your Deako Connect. Hot-in/Common Line THE DEAKO CONNECT ALLOWS YOU TO... Control your lights, even when you re not at home Control your lights with your voice (with Google Home & Amazon Echo) -WAY & 4-WAY WARNING Deako Smart Dimmers must only be installed at the LOAD LOCATION of the circuit. 6 NEED HELP? HOW TO FACTORY RESET A DEAKO SWTCH Follow the instructions below to factory reset a Deako Smart or Dimmer Switch. Factory resetting a switch will erase all information from the switch, including name, schedules, scenes, timers, etc. Tips & Tricks A multi-gang may have seperate neutral and hot-in wires for each circuit. It is important to keep these seperate, otherwise your breaker may trip and damage the Deako device. When attemping -way and 4-way setup: PULL BLUE TAB OUTWARDS Pull the blue tab outwards to disconnect the Deako Switch. i. Be sure to wait for the switch to finish startup before attemping to pair; otherwise you will enter Factory Reset Mode ii. If only the icon appears, your switch needs to be factory reset REINSERT BLUE TAB While pressing the switch inwards, push in the blue tab. IMMEDIATELY PRESS & HOLD SWITCH After reinstalling switch, immediately press & hold the switch until it flashes. This must be done before startup completes. 4 TAP ICONS TO FACTORY RESET Tap the icon, followed by the icon, then then icon. Your switch will be factory reset once the icons stop flashing (about 0 seconds). If you have purchased a Deako system and need instruction on how to install your Deako Backplates and Switches, you ve come to the right place! Deako Backplates are provided with 4AWG wire. The wire nuts provided are suitable for up to four 4AWG copper conductor wires. Strip wires to /8 inch. Pre-twisting is unnecessary, hold striped wires together with ends even (lead stranded wires slightly). Align frayed strands and hold with ends aligned. Twist the wire nut clockwise until tight.
