5 SECTION 1: INTRODUCTION 1.1 PRODUCT DESCRIPTION The HMXAT200 System Controller is a high-level interface controller that is connected to equipment via RJ 6P4C and 6P6C modular connectors. The earlier model controller, known as RDAT200, used D25 connectors to connect to equipment. 1.2 MODELS The HMXAT200 is available in four model numbers. The only difference between the models is the power cord. If additional ports (up to 20) are needed, 4-port (HMX04) or 8-port (HMX08) expansions kits must be ordered separately. Rev. F 1 MXQI040036

6 SECTION 2: CONNECTIONS 2.1 INPUT POWER Each HMXAT200 Controller is fitted with an industry-standard AT-computer power supply. An input voltage selector on the rear panel of the controller can be set to either 230V or 115V depending on the local power source. CAUTION: It is important that the voltage selector be set correctly prior to applying power. Equipment damage may result if the setting is incorrect. 2.2 PAL / NTSC MENU OUTPUT Each HMXAT200 Controller is fitted with a male BNC connector on the rear panel labeled MENU. This output allows connection to a standard monochrome or color video monitor. Just like a standard PC, this output is used for viewing data from the System Controller, such as the MAX-1000 Configuration Software, or High-Level Interface Software. To select between PAL and NTSC video formats: 1. Power down the HMXAT Video format setup disks were supplied with the HMXAT200 unit. Insert the correct disk (PAL or NTSC) into the unit. 3. Power up the HMXAT200. The application will run automatically. 4. When prompted, remove the disk and turn the power off then back on again to reset the HMXAT200. CAUTION: The HMXAT200 needs to have a video source or load connected to the Menu BNC at power up. If a load is not present, video will not be seen and the HMXAT200 will need to be re-booted with a source present. 2.3 BLACK SOURCE OUTPUT Each HMXAT200 Controller is fitted with a male BNC connector on the rear panel labeled BLACK SOURCE. This output provides a black video signal which may be fed into a video input on the CCTV Video Matrix for purposes such as Monitor Blanking. Rev. F 2 MXQI040036

7 2.4 HMX04 AND HMX08 INTERFACE BOARDS The HMX04/HMX08 expansion kits connect to the interface board inside the back panel of the system controller via a 34 position ribbon cable. Attach the ferrite clamp (part ) included in the expansion kit to the 34 position ribbon cable at the end closest to the interface card (the board with the RJ11 connectors). The interface board is fixed inside the back panel of the control computer, and is fitted with RJ11 connectors to allow easy connection to MAX-1000 subracks, keyboards, and other MAX-1000 equipment. Pin connections from the RJ11 connectors are as follows: Pin 1 12VDC RJ11 Socket (rear of System Controller) Pin 2 N/C Pin 3 TX Data Pin 4 Signal GND Pin 5 RX Data Pin 6 Power GND Pin 6 Pin 1 The interface board provides 12VDC at RJ11 connectors 3 and 4 (ports 3 and 4) to power a HEGS5300/RD530 keyboard. All keyboards connected to other ports must have their own power supply. HEGS53000 and HEGSA002 include a 240/120Vac to 12Vdc power supply. NOTES: RD530 is an earlier model keyboard that used DB15 connectors. Where D25 connectors are provided (or fitted to a Controller), standard RS-232 pin allocations apply. i.e., pin 2 = TX, pin 3 = RX, pin 7 = GND. Refer to tables further in this chapter. Where D25 connectors are fitted to a System Controller, CCTV keyboard power (RD530) is provided on port 4. i.e., pin 13 = +12VDC, pin 25 = GND. Two HEGS5300/RD530 keyboards can be powered directly from ports 3 and 4. AUX. 1 and AUX. 2 (D25 and D9 connectors) are not available if a System Controller is fitted with more than 16 COMMUNICATIONS S. Conflicts with port addressing prevent the operation. Rev. Setting the jumper in the top position selects IRQ3 (default), and in the bottom position selects IRQ4. Selecting IRQ4 may be required in some high-level interface applications.
