7 2 Introduction 2.1 UGM-M72 UGM-M72 is a high performance PCI Express graphic subsystem according to the Universal Graphics Module (UGM) standard. It is based on the AMD/ATI Mobility Radeon HD2400 controller. Its main features are DirectX10 and OpenGL2.0 support, a high definition Unified Video Decoder (UVD) and fully integrated HDMI/HDCP support including 5.1 audio. 11 Adaptive de-interlacing filter eliminates video artifacts caused by displaying interlaced video on non-interlaced displays, and by analyzing image and using optimal deinterlacing function on a per-pixel basis. Hardware automatically switches to a lower engine clock frequency if the ASIC is idle or partially idle. Advanced Video Processor (AVP) A memory to memory advanced video processor that reads pixels from source frame buffer, processes pixel data, and writes the output pixels to destination frame buffer. Processing includes color space conversion, chroma subsampling format conversion, horizontal and vertical scaling, directional deinterlacing, and gamma correction, all in one pass. AVP offloads format conversion, deinterlacing and scaling tasks from the 3D engine, allowing for reduced memory bandwidth usage, ALU load, and power consumption Bus Support PCI Express 1.1 compliant. Supports Mobile Graphics Low-Power Addendum to the PCI Express Base Specification Power Management Full ACPI 1.0b, OnNow, and IAPC (Instantly Available PC) power management. Static and dynamic power management support (APM as well as ACPI) with full VESA DPM and Energy Star compliance. Full POWERPLAYTM 7.0 support. The chip power management support logic supports four device power states - On, Standby, Suspend and Off - defined for the OnNow architecture. Each power state can be achieved by software control bits. Clocks to every major functional block are controlled by a unique dynamic clock switching technique which is completely transparent to the software. By turning off the clock to the block that is idle or not used at that point, the power consumption is significantly reduced during normal operation Internal Thermal Sensor Provides ASIC die temperature without external chip. High and low notification limits can be defined to generate an interrupt and to change power state. 15 4.4.5 TMDS Panel Interface The TMDS Signals are either used for DVI or HDMI. UGM-M72 supports one single link TMDS port at a bandwidth of 165MHz. The DAC outputs are designed to drive a 37.5R load. This allows for double termination of the CRT's 75R impedance with onboard 75R load to improve signal quality.
