CENTRAL OFFICE OPTICAL ENTRANCE ENCLOSURE SUBSTATION CENTRAL OFFICE/SUBSTATION
CENTRAL OFFICE/SUBSTATION For Central Office or Headend in an FTTx deployment, outside plant fiber cable is transitioned at the Optical Entrance Enclosure (OEE) to Indoor MicroCore with SpiderWeb Ribbon (SWR ) cable. The Indoor MicroCore fibers can then be routed and terminated to rack/cabinet equipment via traditional patch and splice or plug-and-play methods. Traditional patch and splice applications would utilize Poli-MOD Patch and Splice Modules within XFM Rack Mount Patch Panels. These solutions provide scalability and flexibility for efficiently managing the growth of a network. Poli-MOD Patch and Splice Module AFL s Poli-MOD is an innovative patch and splice module, which offers an inventive and effective means to accommodate up to 24 fiber interconnections in an industry-standard, single-slot LGX 118 footprint. The Poli-MOD offers a unique and robust way to secure cable without the need for time-wasting, tie-wrap alternatives. Additionally, the module leverages a creative snap-in splice sleeve cradle to securely manage both single and ribbon fiber arrangements. These features provide the capacity to outfit a standard 4RU rackmount panel with up to 288 fiber interconnections. XFM Patch Panels Xpress Fiber Management (XFM) patch panels are rack-mountable interconnect points designed to manage dense fiber applications. The panels are fully compatible with AFL s XFM optical cassette, passive optical coupler modules and Poli-MOD solutions. Optical Entrance Enclosure Optical Entrance Enclosures provide a wall-mounted, NEMA 3 rated splicing solution where joining large numbers of fibers at a protected or unprotected convergence point is the objective. The OEE can be thought of as a high-capacity fiber demarcation point, typically serving as the transition point at a Central Office, Headend, Data Center, Substation/CEV or other customer location transitioning from non-flame-rated outside plant cable to a flame-rated indoor style cable. The enclosure provides an adequate and intuitively designed means to store slack such as to ease the installation process and provision for future reconfigurations. Indoor MicroCore with SWR Indoor MicroCore cables are indoor, UL listed, ultra-high density fiber optic cables, which are configured with SpiderWeb Ribbon (SWR). SWR is a bonded fiber design allowing for either a highly efficient ribbonizing application or for individual fiber breakouts. This flexibility allows for the application of a single cable design to cover a diverse set of applications. High-density round designs allow for the most efficient use of space and materials, resulting in a cost effective solution. CENTRAL OFFICE/SUBSTATION

FEEDER For Feeder in an FTTx deployment, outside plant fiber cable is transitioned from the Central Office, typically via underground, into a vault/handhole and then into a LightGuard Sealed Splice Closure where it can be efficiently spliced with cable servicing the distribution enclosure. For aerial applications, ADSS cable and hardware can be utilized to efficiently route fibers throughout the network. OSP MicroCore and microduct can be utilized to deploy fibers to the network for future scalability and flexibility, resulting in drastically reduced installation times and greenfield/brownfield costs. ADSS Cable AFL-ADSS (All-Dielectric Self-Supporting) cable is ideal for installation in distribution as well as transmission environments, even when live-line installations are required. As its name indicates, there is no support or messenger wire required, so installation is achieved in a single pass, making ADSS an economical and simple means of building a fiber optic network. LM200-Series OSP MicroCore The newest product option for AFL s OSP MicroCore series is the LM200-Series. This cable set offers an even greater fiber density than what is available with other OSP MicroCore offerings. The key to achieving this level of fiber-density is the use of ITU-T G652D/G657.A1 optical fiber with a 200 µm diameter buffer coating. This smaller diameter, bend-insensitive optical fiber is packaged in state-of-the-art, kink-resistant, SZ-stranded buffer tubes yielding a cable core that is one of the most rugged micro-loose tube constructions available. The outer jacket system is specially constructed to further protect the optical fiber package and provide for a cable system that can be jetted well over a mile. The LM200-Series is available from 12 fibers up to 432 fibers. LightGuard Sealed Splice Closures LightGuard sealed fiber optic splice closures are designed to simplify splice management and maintenance. Intuitive engineering design reduces the installation time and complexity associated with fiber splicing in the field. LightGuard closures are durable, easy-to-install and will increase productivity, reduce labor expenses and last the life of your plant. FEEDER
ADSS Cable Accessories Wedge Dead End AFL offers wedge dead ends that ease and speed ADSS cable installation. The ADSS wedge dead end is a unique wedge mechanism that provides consistent holding strength and it is much easier and faster when compared to formed wire dead ends. All components in the wedge dead end are captured and the wedge dead end contains no loose parts. The ADSS wedge dead end is ideal in crowded distribution environments because its shorter length allows for safer and efficient installation. The wedge dead end is good for cables up to 0.890" diameter and are rated for 100% of the cables MRCL. Formed Wire Dead End Formed Wire Dead Ends have been proven in the field over and over. They are the most common dead end product for ADSS. Formed Wire Dead Ends can be kitted with an Oval Eye Nut, Extension Link and Thimble Clevis making them adaptable to most jobs. They have a max rated load of 2,500 lbs. and are components rated for 15,000 lbs. Trunnions AFL offers trunnions with various mounting capabilities: bolted, banded or standoff. Trunnions reduce installation costs by functioning as a pull-through during installation (maximum line angle for stringing is 15 total, 7.5 per side, number of structures not to exceed 30). Block or pulley is not needed, provided these conditions are met. ADSS Trunnions are available in single and double cable options. Suspension Unit ADSS suspension units are rated for 1200 ft. NESC Light and 600 ft heavy load. The interlocking halves of the aluminum body clamp provide positive alignment and utilize our proven EDPM bushings to gently grip the cable. ADSS suspension units can be kitted for an oval eye nut and anchor shackle. The suspension units have a 30 degree line angle rating and a vertical loading rated at 5,000 lbs. FEEDER
Wood Pole Guide Clamp Wood pole guide clamps are used to guide ADSS cable from the top of the structure to the splice box. They install easily and provide proper spacing and hold strength without damage to the cable. Wood pole guide clamps have a slip strength greater than 100 pounds. Lattice tower adapters are available so no drilling is needed to mount the clamp. Banding adapters also available for the downlead clamp. Spiral Vibration Damper Spiral vibration dampers have a helically-formed damping section sized for interplay of damper and cable to provide the action/reaction motion that opposed the natural vibration wave. The placement location of the damper is not critical, the damper is effective wherever it is installed on the cable. No installation tools are required to install the damper and the damper is color coded for easy range identification. Coil Brackets Coil Brackets are used to store additional lengths of ADSS to help move closures to ground level for easy access. They are constructed of lightweight aluminum material and are very easy to handle. The brackets are shipped in three pieces and have alignment grooves for faster installations. They can be bolted or banded and can be used with all AFL splice closures. Temporary Grip Temporary grips are used in stringing the ADSS during sagging and where it is necessary to make short term catch on the ADSS. The Temporary grip for ADSS is a high strength aluminum body designed to hold 2,500 pounds or 50% of MRCL of the cable. The temporary grip is reusable and is for cables of to inches in diameter.
