The Illumination Control Signal turns the Touch Screen s Active Barrier on and off Light obstructions caused by the User fingers / objects The IR (Infra-Red) illumination generated by the Active Barrier. The IR light is transmitted to the sensors. The light wavelength is 830nm±20nm The mechanical connections between: The Touch Screen and the Host s monitor / screen The Touch Screen and the Host screen's bezel Mouse events transmitted by the PCB Controller to the Host via USB-HID. Supported interfaces include HIDmouse, HID-digitizer, HID-pointer and HID-mouse The Analog Data Sensor. The signal sample rate is 300 KHz. The effective signal sample rate is 600 Khz, as two sensors are read at a time. Each system includes two optical Sensors placed in the top corners of the panel. These Sensors are assembled on the glass Rod The Rod is an optical element that distributes the light uniformly. The Rod is inserted into the Rod Holder Rod Holder The Rod Holder encases the Rod and protects the Rod from humidity, dust and particles. It is assembled on the glass Led Wire The LED Wire is a cable that connects all IR LEDs mounted on their PCBs (LED PCBs). The wire is connected to the PCB Controller. The number of LED PCBs depends on screen size and screen type 6

Factor for human calibration error by multiplying the number values by the maximal user error. Standard user error is 2-3mm (testing object is a stylus tool with a diameter of 12mm). 7

When a key is depressed, the GPIO is asserted high. When the key is released the GPIO is asserted low. GPIO can control all key driven controls such as the Monitor Control menu, which are not managed by the Operating System. 11

Performance Limitations The Crystal Touch Specifications version performance limitations as specified below are identical to the previous Crystal Touch Specifications performance limitations v This section includes: General Limitations below Single Touch Limitations on page 13 Multi Touch Limitations on page General Limitations For reliable activation of the center of the Touch Screen, the distance between two fingers needs to be larger than D (the Minimal Distance between Objects). D depends on the screen size. The following table describes minimal object distance values for different screen sizes. 13 5.2 Single Touch Limitations Distortion can occur in the top middle area of the screen due to low accuracy in this region. Workaround this issue by raising the sensor position to hide the region. The following diagram displays Single Touch Limitations: d represents the screen diagonal in inches; D represents the distorted region in mm. The distorted region area is as follows: D = d/2 Figure 3 Single Touch Limitations 5.3 Multi Touch Limitations Confusion in identification occurs when two objects, less than 3 cm apart, cross each other s sensor line. The PCB Controller has 2 holes for screws, in order to mount it on the Host. 16 7.1.2 PCB Controller Current Consumption The PCB Controller s current consumption is 36mA@5V, producing 80 MIPs PCB Controller Configurations There are 4 PCB Controller configurations: PCB Controller without serial interfaces PCB Controller with serial interfaces PCB Controller supporting high power LED Wires (for more than 16 LEDs) PCB Controller not supporting high power LED Wires (for more than 16 LEDs). Standard sensors are recommended, due to the fact that flex sensors are fragile and are easily broken. Each sensor type has a different mechanical configuration. The following diagrams describe sensor mechanical configurations: 16

18 Figure 6 Flex Sensors Sensor Assembly By default, the sensors are assembled on the top left and top right of the panel. The sensors have different grades for different touch panel sizes. Although mechanically identical, the sensors assembly / integration tolerances are different. The higher the grade, the larger tolerance sensors can absorb. Assembling the wrong sensor grade on a touch screen panel can cause system sensitivity, including flatness distortion. For optimal performance ensure uniform grades for all sensors assembled on one panel. The following table displays sensor grades and quality values for different panel sizes. 19 7.3 Active Barriers The Active Barrier is the light module that illuminates the Touch Screen perimeter. The Active Barrier s height is 4mm. In each Touch Screen system there are 4 Active Barriers. The number of LED PCBs in each Active Barrier depends on the system size. The Active Barrier is comprised of the following components: Rod The Rod is an acrylic optical fiber that distributes the light uniformly. The length of the Rod depends on the panel size. The maximal Rod length is 59 mm. Rod Holder The Rod Holder protects the Rod from dust, water and other materials. The Rod Holder is a polycarbonate cover, encasing the Rod. The color of the Rod Holder is either clear or black. The relative transparency of the Rod Holder to the IR (Illumination Rod) is 86%. The Rod Holder hardness is 115N/mm2 (33 HB). LED PCB The number of LED PCBs depends on the panel size. The light wavelength is 850nm. Reflector The Reflector increases the illumination strength by 30-40% by reflecting light scattered by the Rods. Optional Decorative Cover LED Wires The LED Wire is inserted into the Rod Holder, and generates light to the Rods. The following table displays LED wiring in systems. 20 7.4 Power Extension PCB Use the Power Extension PCB in order to boost the LED PCBs without affecting the USB power, when the system contains more than 16 LED PCBs (for Touch Screens 62 and above). The following diagram displays the Power Extension PCB. 21 7.5 Glass Surface / Substrate The glass is the surface / substrate for all the system s optical components. Touch Screens include two major optical elements: Sensors Illumination Bars. The sensors should cover the whole detection area, and detect the Active Barrier in its field of view. To achieve the above requirement, the substrate of these parts should be flat. The glass/frame/overlays are different substrates, although they have the same flatness requirements. The substrate should be tested before assembly according to the following requirements: Glass Flatness Minimum Glass Thickness Glass Flatness The following table displays glass flatness requirements. 22 7.6 System Accessories System accessories include: FFC (Flat) Cables below LED Wire Extension Cable on page 23 USB Cables on page FFC (Flat) Cables Flat Cable Requirements Flat cables connect the two sensors to the PCB Controller. Flat cable requirements include: 10 pin connector 1mm pitch with stiffening of 4mm both contacts (R-L) on the same side Exposed conductor length 4 mm Cable Length The flat cable length depends on the glass panel size. The following table displays the cable length in relation to the glass panel size. 23 7.6.2 LED Wire Extension Cable The LED Wire Extension cable is a 2 wire extension cable that connects the PCB Controller to the LED Wire. The LED Wire Extension cable length depends on the system panel size. The following table displays the LED Wire Extension cable length in relation to the glass panel size. The system designer should design an application USB cable to fulfill requirements USB Cable Specifications The following USB cable specifications apply: 5 pin cable type On one side of the cable is a Molex connector On the other side of the cables is an Application connector The serial resistance of the USB cable should be lower than 0.8 Ώ (Higher resistance may cause communication problems or signals reduction) Total cable length must not exceed 5 m (USB IF requirement) The following diagram displays USB cable connectivity. 24 USB B Receptacle Wiring The USB cable can be wired with the same connectivity, but with a USB B receptacle on the application side. Use this cable when mounting a USB connector on the application connector s panel. The following diagram displays mechanical adaptor mounting requirements for a USB B Receptacle wiring configuration.
