1 General safety and application notes 1 General safety and application notes For Lenze controllers (according to Low-Voltage Directive 2006/95/EC) For your personal safety Disregarding the following safety measures can lead to severe injury to persons and damage to material assets: Only use the product as directed. Never commission the product in the event of visible damage. Never commission the product before assembly has been completed. Do not carry out any technical changes on the product. Only use the accessories approved for the product. Only use original spare parts from Lenze. Observe all regulations for the prevention of accidents, directives and laws applicable on site. Transport, installation, commissioning and maintenance work must only be carried out by qualified personnel. Observe IEC 364 and CENELEC HD 384 or DIN VDE 0100 and IEC report 664 or DIN VDE 0110 and all national regulations for the prevention of accidents. According to this basic safety information, qualified, skilled personnel are persons who are familiar with the assembly, installation, commissioning, and operation of the product and who have the qualifications necessary for their occupation. Observe all specifications in the hardware manual and in this documentation. This is the condition for safe and trouble-free operation and the achievement of the specified product features. The procedural notes and circuit details described in the hardware manual and in this documentation are only proposals. It's up to the user to check whether they can be transferred to the particular applications. Lenze Drives GmbH does not accept any liability for the suitability of the procedures and circuit proposals described. Depending on their degree of protection, some parts of the Lenze controllers (frequency inverters, servo inverters, DC speed controllers) and their accessory components can be live, moving and rotating during operation. Surfaces can be hot. Non-authorised removal of the required cover, inappropriate use, incorrect installation or operation, creates the risk of severe injury to persons or damage to material assets. For more information, please see the documentation. High amounts of energy are produced in the controller. Therefore it is required to wear personal protective equipment (body protection, headgear, eye protection, ear protection, hand guard). Danger! The safety and application notes given in the hardware manual must be observed! The product-specific safety and application notes given in these instructions must be observed! For Lenze motors (according to Low-Voltage Directive 2006/95/EC) General Lowvoltage machines have hazardous live and rotating parts and possibly also hot surfaces. Synchronous machines induce voltages at open terminals during operation. All operations concerning transport, connections, commissioning and maintenance must be carried out by qualified, skilled personnel (EN (VDE ) and IEC must be observed). Inappropriate use creates the risk of severe injury to persons and damage to material assets. Lowvoltage machines may only be operated under the conditions that are indicated in the section "Application as directed" of the hardware manual. The conditions at the place of installation must comply with the data given on the nameplate and in the documentation. Residual hazards Protection of persons Before working on the controller, check if no voltage is applied to the power terminals because - depending on the device - the power terminals U, V, W, +UG, - UG, Rb1 and Rb2 remain live for at least minutes after disconnecting the mains. the power terminals L1, L2, L3; U, V, W, +UG, - UG, Rb1 and Rb2 remain live when the motor is stopped. Device protection Connect/disconnect all pluggable terminals only in deenergised condition! Detach the controller from the installation, e.g. from the rear panel of the control cabinet, only in deenergised condition! Motor protection With certain settings of the controller, the connected motor can be overheated. E.g. longer operation of the DC injection brake. Longer operation of self-ventilated motors at low speed. Protection of the machine/plant Drives can reach dangerous over-speeds (e. g. setting of high output frequencies in connection with motors and machines not suitable for this purpose)! The drive controllers do not provide protection against such operating conditions. For this purpose, use additional components. Switch contactors in the motor cable only if the controller is inhibited. When switching contactors in the motor cable while the controller is enabled, you can activate monitoring functions of the controller. If no monitoring function is activated, switching is permissible. Parameter set transfer During the parameter set transfer, control terminals of the controllers can adopt undefined states! Therefore it is required to disable the terminal X4 (digital input signals) before the transfer starts. This ensures that the controller is inhibited and all control terminals have the firmly defined "LOW" status. Lenze 8400 StateLine Quick start guide DMS 1.0 EN 08/2013 TD05/14 3
2 Drive behaviour by default 2 Drive behaviour by default Preset motor control "V/f characteristic control (VFCplus)" The 8400 StateLine controller supports various processes for motor control. By default, the V/f characteristic control (VFCplus) with linear characteristic for asynchronous motors is preset. The presettings of the parameters ensure that the controller is immediately ready for operation and the motor works adequately without further parameterisation if a controller and a 50 Hz asynchronous machine with matching performances are assigned to each other. Preset technology application "speed actuating drive" The 8400 StateLine controller features several integrated "technology applications" for solving various tasks. By default, the technology application "speed actuating drive" is preset. The technology application "speed actuating drive" serves to solve speed-controlled drive tasks, e.g. conveyor drives (interconnected), extruders, test benches, vibrators, travelling drives, presses, machining systems, metering units. Pre-assignment of the analog and digital terminals Different control modes are available for each technology application. By selecting the control mode you set the way the technology application should be controlled, e.g. via terminals or via a fieldbus. By default, the "Terminals 0" control mode is set for the "speed actuating drive" technology application with the analog and digital terminals assigned as follows: Control mode "Terminals 0" Analog terminals - X3 A1U Selected speed setpoint (10 V 100 % reference speed 1500 rpm *) O1U Actual speed output (10 V 100 % reference speed 1500 rpm *) Digital terminals - X4 RFR Controller enable RFR LOW (or open) HIGH HIGH LOW DI1 DI2 DI3 DI4 DO1 Function Controller inhibit Controller enable Reset error message Overriding fixed setpoints Alternatively to the speed selection via the analog input 1, "fixed setpoints" (JOG values) can also be activated via the digital terminals. 6 4 Adapting the drive behaviour by parameterisation 4.1 General notes on parameters 4 Adapting the drive behaviour by parameterisation Being a component of a machine which includes a speed-variable drive system, the controller needs to be adjusted to its drive task by changing parameters. Access to the parameters of the controller is possible with the keypad, with the Engineering tools»easy Starter«and»Engineer«, with a master control via fieldbus communication (e.g. via CAN). Danger! In general, changing a parameter causes an immediate response in the controller! An enabled controller can cause an unwanted behaviour at the motor shaft! For instance, setpoint sources can change over abruptly (e.g. when the signal source is configured for the main setpoint). Certain device commands or settings which may cause critical states of drive behaviour constitute exceptions. Such parameter changes are only possible if the controller is inhibited. Otherwise, a corresponding error message will be issued. 4.1 General notes on parameters All parameters for controller parameterising or monitoring are saved as "codes". The codes are numbered and indicated by the prefix "C" before the code, e.g. "C00011". Moreover, each code has a name and specific attributes, as for example access type (reading, writing), data type, limit values and default setting ("Lenze setting"). For the sake of clarity, some codes contain "subcodes" for saving parameters. This manual uses a slash "/" as a separator between code and subcode, e.g. C00039/1". According to their functionality, the parameters are divided into three groups: Setting parameters: For specifying setpoints and for setting device / monitoring functions. Configuration parameters: For configuring signal connections and terminal assignments. Diagnostic/display parameters: For displaying device-internal process factors, current actual values and status messages. 6 Lenze 8400 StateLine Quick start guide DMS 1.0 EN 08/2013 TD05/14
4 Adapting the drive behaviour by parameterisation 4.2 Commissioning using PC and»engineer«4.2 Commissioning using PC and»engineer«we recommend using the»engineer«to parameterise the "conveyor drive" application described in this documentation. The»Engineer«is a Lenze engineering software for parameter setting across all devices, configuring and diagnosing individual components (as for instance controllers, industrial PCs, motors, I/O systems) and machine control systems. Preconditions for commissioning with the»engineer«for commissioning, you need a PC that satisfies the following requirements: IBM-compatible PC with Intel processor with at least 1.4 GHz or similar Microsoft Windows XP Professional (32 bits) as of SP3 / Windows Server 2003 / Windows Server 2008 / Windows 7 (32 and 64 bits) / Windows 8 at least 1 GB RAM and 2 GB free hard disk space at least 1024 x 768 pixels of screen resolution with a 256-colour palette the»engineer«pc software The»Engineer StateLevel«is provided free of charge in the internet: Download Software downloads a communication link to the controller, e.g. via a USB diagnostic adapter (E94AZCUS). 12 Setting of the basic parameters using the commissioning wizard 8400 The commissioning wizard 8400 serves to carry out a guided commissioning of the controller based on the Lenze setting of the parameters. 1. In the Project view, select the 8400 StateLine controller. 2. Click the symbol in the toolbar to start the Commissioning wizard Step 1 Start 1. Click the Set Lenze settings button. (Only after setting the parameters to the Lenze setting, the Next button can be activated.) 2. Click Next. Now the commissioning wizard guides you step by step through the setting of the important parameters for a quick commissioning. Information and notes on each commissioning step as well as useful settings and recommendations for the "conveyor drive" application can be found in the following sections. 12 Lenze 8400 StateLine Quick start guide DMS 1.0 EN 08/2013 TD05/14
Step 2 Motor selection 1. Select connected motor. 2. If you use a Lenze motor: Click the Select a motor button. The Motor selection dialog box is displayed: Select the used Lenze motor and confirm the motor selection with OK. Lenze 8400 StateLine Quick start guide DMS 1.0 EN 08/2013 TD05/14 13
Thereupon, the motor and plant parameters to be transmitted to the controller are displayed in the Use motor's default values dialog box. Leave all checkboxes checked and confirm the acceptance of the default values with OK. The dialog box is closed and you are in the commissioning wizard again. 3. Click Next. Step 3 Mains voltage 1. Set the mains voltage which is used to operate the device. The set mains voltage influences the brake chopper threshold, the monitoring of the device utilisation (Ixt) and the switch-off threshold in case of undervoltage in the DC bus. 2. Click Next. 14 Lenze 8400 StateLine Quick start guide DMS 1.0 EN 08/2013 TD05/14
Step 4 Control mode 1. Set the control mode which has been selected for wiring the control terminals. 2. Click Next. Step 5 Motor control We recommend the energy-saving "V/f eco" V/f operating mode for the material handling technology. With this operating mode, the motor voltage of the inverter is detected by means of a linear characteristic as a function of the field frequency to be created or the motor speed. Moreover, a cosϕ control and the resulting voltage reduction causes the motor to be always operated in the optimum efficiency range (reduction of copper losses in the asynchronous motor). Advantages of the V/f eco V/f operating mode: Good robustness Easy parameter setting High energy efficiency (lower heating of the motor in partial load operational range) Same speed accuracy and maximum torques as with VFCplus Less noise generation of the motor with active voltage reduction Lenze 8400 StateLine Quick start guide DMS 1.0 EN 08/2013 TD05/14 15
1. Recommendation: Set the energy-saving "V/f eco" V/f operating mode. 2. Option: Adjust parameters. After a Lenze motor has been selected (in Step 2 Motor selection), the suitable values are automatically transmitted to the controller (unless this option has been switched off in the Use motor's default values dialog box). Information on the individual parameters can be found in the table below. 3. Click Next. Parameter Info C00022 Imax in motor mode Maximum current in motor mode for all motor control modes C00021 Slip compensation A higher slip compensation results in a higher increase in frequency and voltage when the machine is under load. C00015 V/f base frequency The motor voltage increases linearly with the frequency until the base frequency is reached. From this value on, the motor voltage remains constant, the speed increases and the maximum torque decreases. C00016 Vmin boost Boost of the V/f voltage characteristic in the range of lower speeds or frequencies. This may increase the starting torque. 16 Lenze 8400 StateLine Quick start guide DMS 1.0 EN 08/2013 TD05/14

Step 7 Holding brake Detailed information on how to parameterise the holding brake control can be found in the online help for the 8400 StateLine in the chapter entitled "Basic drive functions (MCK)". The documentation of the holding brake control contains safety instructions that must be observed! If the motor is provided with a holding brake: 1. Set the "Autom. controlled" mode for the brake control. This is the usual mode to control the holding brake. 2. Select the output via which the holding brake is triggered. If required, the polarity of the brake output signal can also be inverted. 3. Set application and release times. Every mechanical holding brake comes with a construction-conditioned application and release time which must be considered by the holding brake control. The application and release time of the Lenze holding brake is indicated in the supplied operating instructions in the "Technical data" chapter. 4. Option: Set further brake parameters. 5. Click Next. 18 Lenze 8400 StateLine Quick start guide DMS 1.0 EN 08/2013 TD05/14
Step 8 Brake chopper When electric motors are braked, the kinetic energy of the drive train is fed back into the DC circuit regeneratively. This energy leads to an increase in the DC bus voltage. In order to avoid overvoltage in the DC bus, several different strategies can be used. We recommend the use of brake choppers (brake transistors) integrated into the controller for braking operation. The required brake resistor is connected to the terminals RB1 and RB2 of the controller. Stop! If the connected brake resistor is smaller than required, the brake chopper can be destroyed! If no brake resistor or regenerative module is used, the overvoltage switch-off ("OU") may respond, e.g. in the case of short deceleration times during feedback operation. Detailed information on the different strategies and suitable protective measures can be found in the online help for the 8400 StateLine in the chapter entitled "Motor control (MCTRL) Braking operation/brake energy management". 1. Select the strategy for the brake energy management. 2. When using a brake resistor: Set the brake resistance and rated power. The values to be entered can be obtained from the nameplate of the brake resistor. 3. Option: Set further detailed data for the brake resistor. 4. Click Next. 20 Step 9 Main setpoints of the traversing profile 1. Adjust travel profile to the application. Information on the individual parameters can be found in the table below. 2. Click Next. Parameter Info C00039/1 Fixed setpoint 1 The three fixed setpoints can be activated via the digital C00039/2 Fixed setpoint 2 inputs DI1 and DI2. The fixed setpoints are specified in [%] according to the reference speed. C00039/3 Fixed setpoint 3 C00012 Acceleration time - main setpoint In order to prevent jumps, the speed setpoint is led via a C00013 Deceleration time - main setpoint ramp generator with linear ramps. C00011 Reference speed All speed setpoint selections are provided in % and always refer to the set reference speed. C00105 Decel. time - quick stop In case of the "quick stop" request, the motor is brought to a standstill within the set deceleration time. 20 Lenze 8400 StateLine Quick start guide DMS 1.0 EN 08/2013 TD05/14
Step 10 Monitoring Stop! Motor overload monitoring I 2 xt motor monitoring does not provide full motor protection! As the motor utilisation calculated in the thermal motor model is lost after mains switching, for instance the following operating states cannot be detected correctly: Restarting (after mains switching) of a motor that is already very hot. Change of the cooling conditions (e.g. cooling air flow interrupted or too warm). A full motor protection requires additional measures as e.g. the evaluation of temperature sensors that are located directly in the winding or the use of thermal contacts. For the installation according to UL or UR, the safety instructions provided in the hardware manual must be observed! Among other things, the activation of the motor overload monitoring (I2xt) is required here. Danger! Monitoring of brake resistor In the Lenze setting (C00574 = "0: No Reaction"), the response of the monitoring function does not stop the braking process! In particular for applications such as hoists or applications with a DC-bus connection, it must be checked if a stopping of the braking process due to a setting of C00574 = "1: Fault" is permissible. Stop! Implement appropriate protective measures against thermal overload of the brake resistor! Examples: Parameterisation of an error response in C00574 and evaluation of the parameterised error message within the application or the machine control system. Interruption of the mains supply by means of the temperature contact at the brake resistor and a simultaneous activation of the mechanical brake. Lenze 8400 StateLine Quick start guide DMS 1.0 EN 08/2013 TD05/14 21
1. Set the trigger threshold and error response for the respective monitoring mode. Information on the individual parameters can be found in the table below. 2. If an error is displayed (display <> " "): Click to call the Error details dialog for a more detailed analysis. This dialog also serves to reset the error message after the error cause has been eliminated. 3. Click Next. Parameter Info C00120 Setting of motor overload (I 2 xt) Motor overload monitoring (I 2 xt): Overload threshold for motor utilisation meter (display in C00066). The overload threshold has to be set as follows: Rated motor current (C00088) C00120 = % Rated device current (C00098) C00606 Resp. to motor overload (I 2 xt) Motor overload monitoring (I 2 xt): Response when the motor load displayed in C00066 reaches the value " %". C00123 Device utilisat. threshold (Ixt) Monitoring of device utilisation (Ixt): C00604 Resp. to device overload (Ixt) Operating threshold and response when the operating threshold is reached. Operating threshold and response when the operating threshold is reached. 22 Lenze 8400 StateLine Quick start guide DMS 1.0 EN 08/2013 TD05/14
Step 11 Motor data identification The motor data identification serves to automatically identify the inverter characteristic, the influences of the motor cable and various motor parameters. Note! A motor data identification is mandatory if a newly created non-lenze motor (user motor) is connected to the controller. In all other cases, the motor data identification can be executed optionally in order to adapt the controller optimally to the connected motor. Danger! During motor data identification, the motor is energised via the outputs U, V and W of the controller! Detailed information on motor data identification can be found in the online help for the 8400 StateLine in the chapter entitled "Motor control (MCTRL) Motor selection/motor data". 1. If required (see notes): Execute a motor data identification. 2. Click Next. Lenze 8400 StateLine Quick start guide DMS 1.0 EN 08/2013 TD05/14 23
Step 12 End 1. Click the Save parameter set... button to save the created configuration safe against mains failure in the controller (memory module). 2. Click Complete. Now, the setting of the most important parameters is completed. Tip! After the commissioning wizard is quit, save the»engineer«project for reuse: File Save 24 Lenze 8400 StateLine Quick start guide DMS 1.0 EN 08/2013 TD05/14
