1 SERVCE SPECFCATON SU-4586 STYLE F-70 NVERTER- DRVER UN45l General This service specification covers the testing and maintenance procedures for the Style F-70 nverter-driver The F-70 supplies square wave power at a stable frequency to the F-50 nverter-follower 2 General Equipment Specifications The general equipment specifications are as follows: a nput 16 VDC ±5% at 50 ma b Output "t ' 18 Volts Square Wave (36 volts peak to peak) into 3000 ohms (approximately 100 milliwatts) Frequency 94 8 ± 0 2 HZ* c Temperature Range *HERTZ - Cycles/sec Definition adopted by EEE on Oct 14, 1965 PRNTED N USA Bl UNON SWTCH & SGNAL DVSON Westinghouse Air Brake Company PTSBURGH, PA April, 1967

2 3 Maintenance The following instruments are required for checking the waveform, voltage and frequency outputs of the F-70 nverter-driver Use DC Measurement AC Waveforms AC Voltage (Sine Wave Only) Test nstrument Simpson Model 260 or equivalent Tektronix 515, or any good quality, general purpose oscilloscope Hewlett Packard 400D or equivalent VTVM l The F-70 is adjusted at the factory and does not require field adjustment, However, should a change be made of any component in the oscillator circuit, the amplitude and wave shape at the emitter of Q3 should be checked There should be a sine wave voltage of volts RMS ±25% amplitude Crossover points should have equal time base (refer to figure 4a) Should the proper voltage not be present, R4 will have to be changed as follows: a Connect a decade box in place of R4 and connect a VTVM and an oscilloscope from the emitter of Q3 to -16 R b Vary the decade box until the proper voltage appears The typical value for R4 is 30, 000 ohms so the decade box range necessary should be between 20, 000 and 39, 000 ohms c Note value shown on decade box and replace R4 with a resistor of like value (See note on figure 2 ) d After replacing R4 check for proper voltage on the oscilloscope keeping in mind that because of the cumulative tolerance allowances of the decade box and the resistor being used, R4 may not be quite what is necessary to balance the feedback circuit f clipping and distortion occur with an amplitude greater than 2 5 volts, R4 is too low f the amplitude is less than 5 volts, R4 is too high Make the final substitution as necessary to achieve the desired results Parts locations are shown in figures 1 and 2 Figure 3 is the schematic diagram Figure 4 contains voltage waveshapes and values that will aid in troubleshooting the equipment SU-4586, p 2
