3 Design and Engineering The most important element in the design process is the development of luminaires that encompass timeless design; in other words, design that best reflects their enduring qualities. In addition, state-of-the-art engineering brings with it the highest standards with regard to environmentally-friendly materials and processes, i.e., high IP ratings, excellent thermal management and innovative optical systems. The development of high-end, efficient reflectors and lenses is one of the core competencies of WE-EF. This means compliance with international lighting and safety norms, while meeting the criteria of such organisations as the Dark Sky Society. Continual investment in research and development is the basic condition for meeting these requirements. WE-EF innovations, such as IOS Innovative Optical Systems, CTA Cool Touch Adaptor, ASC Anti Slip Coating and OLC One LED Concept, are just some examples of the company s continuing investment in technology. In exterior lighting, the corrosion resistance qualities of a product are important for their reliability and longevity. A durable and reliable corrosion protection can only be achieved when Product Development and the Production Processes are considered together. Years of research, development and practical testing and experience in some of the harshest climates on earth has resulted in WE-EF s unique 5CE corrosion protection system. It encompasses five critical elements; Material, Conversion Coating, Powder Coating, PCS Polymer Coated Stainless Hardware and Process Control. Only complete systems such as 5CE can provide reliability and longevity in exterior environments. Application Real and sustainable cost and energy savings can only be achieved through professional project planning, including the application of the latest optical systems and LEDs. In streetlighting applications, for example, this means minimising the number of luminaires required by optimising the efficiency of the optical system, while at the same time limiting glare in line with international standards. In short, reduced installation and maintenance costs, less CO2 and improved quality of light. Recycling More than 90 per cent of a WE-EF luminaire can be recycled. The main component, a marine-grade aluminium substrate, is refined from recycled aluminium. This recycled aluminium is also an 'energy storer'. Only 5 per cent of the original energy needed to process bauxite into aluminium is required for recycling. In other words, 95 per cent of the original energy input is also recycled. 1

7 CONCEPT APPLICATIONS The application possibilities in using WE-EF Colour Changing Projectors are endless. The following guide can help to translate your design vision into a reality. Below are some colour-changing scenarios that show how you can individually control, via addresses, each projector or define a group of projectors. These can then be synchronised over a set period of hours or selected days in the week. Standard is a uni directional protocol, which means that the data continuously flows in one direction from the controller to the projectors. With RDM (Remote Device Management) the system becomes bi-directional and data flows in both directions i.e., to the projectors and back and simplifies the installation and address allocation. The equipment list options for compatible devices are shown on page 6-7. A wireless system for the signal is also available as detailed on page Example 1 All projectors are uniformly addressed. 8 EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS To determine what equipment is required for the system simply follow the planning schematic below. Options 1, 3, 5 and 7 are supplied with a unidirectional Controller while options 2, 4, 6 and 8 work with a bi-directional Controller (RDM ready). The various features of the equipment are listed on the opposite page. For applications with 50 or more projectors WE-EF recommends the use of the bidirectional Controller. This controller is also necessary if external sensors are to be installed. Please see page 8-9 for a wiring schematic for a single layout, and page for a multiple layout. 10 WIRING SCHEMATIC SINGLE LAYOUT A network consists of a controller the master of the network and one or more projectors, that belong to a universe. If the projectors are delivered with a combination cable (see page 2), it is not necessary to open the projectors for the electrical connection. Each projector therefore, as a standard, has an 'IN' and an 'OUT' cable with an IP68 plug and socket connector, thereby connecting each projector in a chain. The specification requires a termination plug (resistor) to be connected to the 'OUT' of each last projector to avoid mirroring of the signal. 11 The plug and socket connector connects both power and at the same time. If the projectors are delivered without combination cable, they must be opened for connection on site. The projectors are equipped with two cable entries, max. 14 mm diameter. For the assembly a suitable crimping tool is necessary. The cable carries the three power cords and one twisted pair for the signal plus shielding. If optional sensors or switching devices are to be used, the cable size depends on the devices used. Please always follow the manufacturer's instructions. All external sources must be connected to the controller via a relay. The combination cable needs to be protected by a conduit when used in soil, water or concrete. 12 WIRING SCHEMATIC MULTIPLE LAYOUT For a multiple layout, a splitter must be used as a multiplexer for the signal. For the controller with RDM, the splitter is also used for protection as it electrically decouples the signal. A termination plug is also required for each final projector. 14 EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS FOR WIRELESS SYSTEM To determine what equipment is required for the wireless system, simply follow the planning schematic below. Options 1 and 3 are supplied with a unidirectional Controller, while options 2 and 4 work with a bi-directional Controller (RDM ready). The various features of the equipment are listed on the opposite page. Due to the fact that the system contains a wireless-transmitted signal no mirroring can occur and therefore no termination resistor is needed. The maximum distance between transceiver and final projector is 300 m (line-of-sight). Trees, buildings etc. may reduce the maximum distance. To increase the range, a repeater can be used. Cascading the repeater signal is not possible. The system works in the 2.4 GHz band. Other sources in the signal band must be considered (W-LAN). Please see page for the wiring schematic. 16 WIRING SCHEMATIC FOR WIRELESS SYSTEM The transceiver, which also works as a receiver, transmits the encrypted signal via wireless signal to all subscribers of the network. Each projector has a built-in transmitter and receiver that transforms the wireless signal back into a classic signal and can also communicate bi-directionally (RDM). A network consists of a controller the master of the network and one or more projectors, which belong to a universe. Only in the wireless system additional transceivers and repeaters replace the cables for the signal transmission. The information for the colour control is transmitted by wireless signal. 17 Only the projectors must be connected to the mains. For connection, only the gear chamber must be opened. The projectors are equipped with two cable entries, for cables with a max. 14 mm diameter. The power supply line must be suitable for the application. If optional sensors or switching devices are to be used, the cable diameter depends on the devices used. Please always follow the manufacturer's instructions. All external sources must be connected to the controller via a relay. The commissioning of the projectors (addressing) is via wireless signal.
