4 1. INTRODUCTION The new K-array KMT12 and KMT18 are much more than standard powered subwoofers. They are full-featured audio systems, with analog and digital multiple inputs and outputs, a powerful DSP on board and a memory to store up to 40 configurations of settings. An integrated touch screen provides intuitive managing and editing of the main DSP functions: input and output levels, In/Out routing, speakon output delay (up to 12 ms.), subwoofer delay (up to 12 ms.) and overall system delay (up to 330 ms.). All DSP functions, including EQ can be controlled with remote managing software via USB or RS485, again conveniently on a standard XLR. The amplifier mounted on board is class D, delivering 2 x 1050 W at 8Ω with a max THD of 1% (EIAJ 1KHz). One of the two amplifying channels is dedicated to an output Speakon to connect to many kinds of speaker configurations, including single mid-high modules (KK52, KK102), multiple line arrays, or the passive version of an additional subwoofer module (KMT12P or KMT18P). The rear panel provides input for two balanced line signals and digital signals in AES/EBU protocol, also on an XLR for ease of cabling. There are 40 available DSP preset slots, 8 of them are specifically made by K-array to optimize the system performance of possible device configurations. In addition the user can also create, save, and store his/her own personal presets in the remaining 32 slots on KMT module using the K-framework software. The unique four-corner port configuration gives symmetrical back loading to the speaker for extended bass response with very low distortion. This also gives incredible structural strength to the cabinet despite its light weight. Pocket handles and an M20 thread mount position for attaching mid-high speakers makes the KMT convenient to use and ideal for medium throw applications in theaters, concert halls, and Audio/Video installations. All KTM components are designed by the K-array R&D department and custom-made under the K-array quality control system. 2. APPLICATIONS 3. KEY FEATURES Theatrical sound reinforcement Concert halls, clubs, houses of worship Portable and installed audio-visual systems Cinema and special effects Optimized for KK102, KMT18P or KMT12P Unique performance-to-size ratio Fitted with integral handles and castors Direct radiating, long excursion driver Ultra fast set-up and dismantling system Analog and digital AES-EBU inputs RS485 and USB connectivity for remote control 6 7

K-array is not liable for consequential damages. This warranty is exclusive and no other warranty is expressed or implied. This warranty does not affect your statutory rights. 6. SAFETY WARNING 33.5 cm It is important that loudspeaker systems are used in a safe manner. Professional loudspeakers are capable of producing extremely high sound levels and should be used with care. Hearing loss is cumulative and can result from levels above 90dB if people are exposed for an extended period. Never stand close to loudspeakers driven at high volume. Suspending the system should only be done by qualified personnel following safe rigging practices. Secure fixings to the building structure are vital. Seek help from architects, structural engineers or other specialists if in any doubt. Do not operate the speaker for an extended period of time with sound distortion. This is an indication of malfunction, which in turn can generate heat and result in a fire. Only connect the power supply to an appropriate power adapter. Do not install the speaker in wet or humid locations without using weather protection. Do not allow water or any foreign object to get inside the speaker. Do not put objects containing liquid on, or near, the unit. To reduce the risk of overheating the amplifier, avoid exposing it to direct sunlight. Do not install the unit near heat emitting appliances, such as a room heater or stove. No naked flame sources such as lighted candles should be placed near the device. The speaker should be placed so that its location does not interfere with its proper cooling. Do not attempt to disassemble the unit. The unit contains no user-serviceable parts. Repairs should only be performed by factory trained service personnel. Be sure that the adapter has the correct voltage value cm 43.5 cm weight:?? kg (?? lbs) 8 9

6 8. AMPLIFIER KMT AC POWER CONNECTOR The amplifier module and the rest of the audio equipment connected to it (mixing consoles, processors, etc.) must be connected to the AC power distribution in a proper way, preserving AC line polarity and connecting earth ground such that all grounding points are connected to a single node or common point using the same cable gauge as the neutral and line(s) cables. Bad grounding connections between speakers and the rest of the audio system may produce noise, hum and/or serious damage to the input/output stages in the system s electronic equipment. Before applying AC to any K-array self-powered speaker, be sure that the voltage potential difference between neutral and earth ground is less than 5 VAC cm VOLTAGE REQUIREMENT KMT12 and KMT18 operate safely and without audio discontinuity if the AC voltage stays within 85 and 135V or between 180 and 250V, at 50 or 60 Hz. Verify that your mains connection is capable to satisfy the power ratings of the device. CAUTION Connecting the system to an AC power mains with a voltage exceeding 250V will cause significant damage to the device and create a serious risk for users! 46.5 cm cm weight: 28 kg (61.73 lbs) 8.3 CURRENT REQUIREMENT KMT12 and KMT18 present a dynamic load to the AC mains, which causes the amount of current to fluctuate between quiet and loud operating levels. Since different cables and circuit breakers heat up at varying rates, it is essential to understand the types of current ratings and how they correspond to circuit breaker and cable specifications. The maximum continuous RMS current is the maximum RMS current in a period of at least ten seconds. It is used to calculate the temperature increase in cables, which is used to select cables that conform to electrical code standards. It is also used to select the cable size and gauge, and the rating for slow-reacting thermal breakers. The maximum burst RMS current is the maximum RMS current in a period of approximately one second. It is used to select the rating for magnetic breakers. The maximum instantaneous peak current during burst is used to select the rating for fast reacting magnetic breakers. For best performance, the AC Cable voltage drop should not exceed 10% at 115V and 5% at 230V

7 The minimum electrical service amperage required by a K-array loudspeakers system is the sum of their maximum continuous RMS current. We recommend allowing an additional 30% above the minimum amperage to prevent peak voltage drops at the service entry. 8.4 REAR PANEL max continuous apparent power (VA) 410VA(>10 sec) VA (<1 sec) ) CH1 Line XLR input. This input ha a sensitivity of +4 dbu. 2) CH2 Mic/Line XLR input. The sensitivity of this input can be switched between -30 dbu (Mic mode) and +4 dbu (Line mode). 3) CH1 XLR parallel out. 8 8.5 Touch screen functions HOME PAGE The main functions of the DSP on board can be managed through the integrated touch screen. Functions are grouped into six pages, as shown in the Home page. DELAY PAGE From the Delay page users can manage the delay amount to be applied to the speaker system (Subwoofer and Speaker Out). This delay is summed to the one from the Routing pages of Subwoofer and Speaker Out. The COARSE and FINE regulation bars allow users to regulate the delay amount by bigger and smaller steps. To reach the Home page from any other page, touch the Home button. Notes: The delay regulation does not affect the XLR DSP out. Delay regulation for this output line is only managed through the K-Framework dedicated controls. INPUT PAGE From the Input page users can manage the amplitude of all the four input channels separately. 8.6 AUDIO INPUT CONNECTOR WIRING OUTPUT PAGE ROUTING PAGES From the Output page users can manage the amplitude of the signal routed to the Subwoofer module, to the Speaker output and the XLR DSP output separately. From the three routing pages users can manage the routing of the four input channels to the three outputs (Subwoofer, Speaker Out and XLR DSP Out) as well as the output volume and the delay amount of each output separately. The delay amount set inside the Routing pages is summed to the one globally assigned from the Delay page. Using the arrow buttons on the top right corner of the page users can alternatively access the Subwoofer, the Speaker Out and the XLR DSP Out routing page. Notes: The XLR DSP routing page does not provide the management of delay for this output. The Audio section includes a female balanced XLR connector and a male XLR connector wired in parallel. Thanks to these connectors it is possible to feed a module and send the same signal to another one through the LINK connector. It is possible to connect up to 30 different modules in parallel on the same balanced line (with a source of 600 ohm output impedance). In order to create your own signal cables, please use the following wiring diagrams: hot INPUT cold grd XLR connector grd PARALLEL OUTPUT 1 3 cold hot 2 PRESET PAGES INFO PAGE From the two preset pages users can load any preset stored on board. Using the arrow buttons on the top right corner of the page users can alternatively access the Factory or the User preset page to scroll the list of all the available presets and select the one to load. See the PRESET page (p.??) for a description of Factory and User Presets. Inside the Info page users can find all the information about the software and firmware current version and the Logical ID of the KMT module. The Logical ID is a univocal number that is automatically assigned to the unit when connected to a network. 8.7 AMPLIFICATION AND PROTECTION CIRCUITRY The KMT12 and KMT18 are powered by a 2-channel high power digital amplifier feeding the connected modules with a power output of 1050W in each channel (EIAJ test). All the specific functions for the KMT12 or KMT18, such as crossovers, equalization, phase response, and driver protection are controlled by a DSP processor installed inside the amplifier. The devices have two different types of audio signal limiter. The Clip limiter and the Average Power limiter reduce the risk of damaging the components of the speakers. A Peak Current Shut Down acts as output stage switching process inhibition that resets itself after 2 seconds. The tripping point is at 35A. A temperature protection limiter ensures the output stage gain stays below a temperature of 85 (approximate temperature of output power device)
