In addition to the precise analysis of the chemical composition, it also offers the ability to identify the material and to quickly sort numerous samples for a match with a reference sample. An extensive control system with hardware and software-based diagnostic functions ensures that the instrument always operates faultlessly. the spectra of reference samples in multiple bases (option for Fe, Al, Cu, Ni, Co and Ti bases) at the beginning of the measurement. The measurement is then continued with measuring parameters that have been optimized for the reference sample method chosen by the SPECTROTEST. The concentrations of the unknown sample are calculated with the stored calibration data. Errors due to incorrect evaluation of the material by the operator are eliminated and the accuracy of the testing immensely improved. The instrument can be linked to peripheral equipment and other computers via USB, network, printer and monitor connections. Changes to or extension of analytical programs can be more simply performed for the SPECTROTEST than for any other spectrometer. Thanks to the ICAL logic system, the special SPECTRO CCD technique can be optimally used and the system can be easily added to, even at a later date, at the customer location. The ICAL logic system enables the introduction of the new fingerprinting method; revolutionizing analysis with arc excitation. Whether cordless battery operation in hard-to-reach locations, the analysis of small parts, thin wires, curved surfaces or hidden welding seams, the use at an arc-furnace platform in a steel mill, the final inspection of goods in a production operation or the identification and analysis of a wide range of metal types and alloys at the scrap yard, with its innovative technology, the SPECTROTEST is up to the challenge of each of these assignments. Its heart consists of the plasma generator, special optics, new high performance readout system and ICAL logic system, all innovative components that make the SPECTROTEST more precise, simpler and more reliable. Through combination with other highquality components, the SPECTROTEST remains the most powerful spectrometer of its class. The secure base, as well as easy movement and steering of the instrument are important features for straightforward handling and fatiguefree operation. For this reason, the transport trolley was designed as a single unit with the instrument. The ergonomic design permits an upright operating position and thus an ideal working height for the user. If necessary, the trolley can be disassembled in a few steps and requires only a small amount of storage space. Operation

4 4 Analysis: Within seconds, a complete analysis for all required elements is performed and displayed, with additional information about the tested material, if desired. 5 Optics: The optical system maps the entire relevant wavelength range and distinguishes itself through exceptional precision, stability and robustness. 4 5 The new SPECTRO Plasma Generator is the first completely digital excitation system for spark emission spectrometers. The energy in the plasma is defined and held very constant drastically reducing the negative effects of conventional excitation technology and markedly improving the precision, reproducibility and measuring speed. The special optic in the SPECTROTEST corresponds to the arrangement of the well-known optical systems in the laboratory spectrometer. It maps the entire relevant wavelength range and distinguishes itself through exceptional precision, stability and robustness. This is achieved by a compact construction developed especially for mobile use. The optical components, such as the holographic grating and CCD detectors, are completely integrated, protecting them from dust and shock. The accumulated data is processed simultaneously by the new high performance readout system, which is fifty times faster than the previous systems; decidedly improving the analytical capabilities of the SPECTROTEST. The proven ICAL (Intelligent Calibration Logic) system monitors the proper state of the measurement system independently from external influences. This eliminates the time-consuming recalibration of the spectrometer for changes in location and temperature. The measurement of a single control sample is all that is required. Plasma Generator, special optics, readout system and the ICAL logic system form the basis for the analytical accuracy and flexibility in the SPECTROTEST that is unequaled in its category. At the same time, they lead to minimal maintenance costs and make operation of the instrument simple and reliable, leaving it in a class of its own. Analysis

5 6 Standard probe: The standard probe and optional UV probe (7) can be attached in a matter of seconds. 7 Special probe: The special probe with integrated UV optics is especially suited to the analysis of (C), P, S, Sn, As and B. 6 8 Special adapters: Different adapters permit the testing of any surface, such as, e.g., wires, tubes and small parts. 8 7 To perform a measurement, the sample probe is held to the sample and the start button is pressed. The results are available within a few seconds. The standard probe is used both for sorting and identification with an arc source and also for analysis with a spark source including the element carbon. The change from arc to spark mode and vice versa can be quickly realized. The necessary exchanging of adapters and electrodes can be performed rapidly and easily without tools. For special tasks, the SPECTROTEST can be expanded with useful accessories. For example, phosphorus, sulfur, boron, tin and additional elements can be determined with UV optics integrated into a special probe. Thanks to a plug connection, the fast change from standard probe to UV probe is no problem. For the analysis of tubes, wires and small parts as well as other unusual shapes, additional adapters, which can be easily mounted onto the probe instead of the standard adapter, are available. The low power consumption, due to an efficient source, in connection with other measures, allows the SPECTROTEST to be operated with an optional battery pack. It can last for several hundred analyses and is easily inserted into the corresponding receptacle in the transport trolley or alternatively carried on a handle. This enables cordless operation at nearly any testing site. Accessories
