It displays either Internal Reference Voltage or External Reference Voltage depending on the Setup Byte D6 - D pulldown menu setting. If the current setting is external reference mode, the user has two external reference options as shown in Table. Table. External Reference Selection (JU) JUMPER JU SHUNT POSITION - Open* *Default configuration. DESCRIPTION On-board external reference connected to AIN/REF User-supplied external reference to AIN/REF Timer Interval Use the Timer Interval pulldown menu to set the interval value of the Auto Read timer. The choices are 0.s, s, s, s, 4s, s, and 6s. There are two Auto Read checkboxes that use this timer interval value. The first Auto Read checkbox is located in the ADC Value Display box of the main window, and the other is located in the Reading in Monitor Mode window. Setup Byte and Configuration Byte In the middle of the main window are the Setup Byte and Configuration Byte pulldown menus and a corresponding Execute button. Refer to MAX6 data sheet for a detailed description of the Setup Byte and Configuration Byte registers. Configuring Monitor Mode If the Monitor Setup is selected in the Setup Byte D0 pulldown menu, the Configuring Monitor Mode window pops up as shown in Figure. The user can reset the channel alarm bits by checking the proper channel in the Alarm Reset box. Select the Scan Speed pulldown-menu setting. Enable the interrupt by checking the INT_EN checkbox, and set the LOWER and UPPER edit fields to the desired value in the AIN_ Thresholds box. Depending on the Setup Byte D - D and Setup Byte D0 pulldownmenu settings, the threshold values for some of the channels may be grayed out. Whenever the Setup Byte or the Configuration Byte pulldown-menu settings have been modified, the user MUST PRESS the Execute button to synchronize the software settings with the hardware. Readback Mode If the Configuration Byte D6 - D pulldown menu is set to 0 SCAN SCAN0 Monitor Mode, the Configuration Byte D4 - D pulldown menu is set to CS CS RD MON Setup, and the Execute button is pressed, the Readback Mode window pops up. The Readback Mode window shows the current scan speed and alarm threshold(s). Both the Auto Read checkbox and the Read ADC button are disabled in this mode. Reading in Monitor Mode If the Configuration Byte D6 - D pulldown menu is set to 0 SCAN SCAN0 Monitor Mode, the Configuration Byte D4 - D pulldown menu is set to 00 CS CS Normal, and the Execute button is pressed, the Reading in Monitor Mode window pops up as shown in Figure. Both the Auto Read checkbox and the Read ADC button are disabled in this mode. 4

6 ADC Value Display The ADC Value Display box shown in the main window displays the channel number (CH#), the voltage, and the code. Pressing the Read ADC button updates the status of the ADC Value Display box. There may be lines in the ADC Value Display box that are grayed out due to the Setup Byte and Configuration Byte settings. Check the Auto Read checkbox to automatically read the current ADC value at a rate set by the Timer Interval pulldown menu. When this Auto Read checkbox is checked, the Read ADC button is disabled. Interrupt The Interrupt Status indicator is located in the lower right of the main window. It indicates the current status of the MAX6 s interrupt pin and is updated at a rate based on the value in the Timer Interval pulldown menu. The hardware interrrupt is active only when INT_EN is checked in the Configuring Monitor Mode window. When an interrupt occurs, the INT LED on the MAX6 EV kit board lights up in real time. SMBus Alert When the Send SMBus Alert button is pressed, the SMBus Alert window pops up and displays the alertdevice address as shown in Figure 4. If there is no alarm, the Alert Device Address field shows the highest SMBus address, which is 0xfe. ADC Data Block Sampling Accessing the Action Block Sample menu results in the Block Sampling window popping up as shown in Figure. The user can change the sample rate and sampling length. Pressing the Sample button starts sampling and changes the Configuration Byte D6 - D pulldown menu to SCAN SCAN0 single conversion. After sampling is finished, the user can save the data to a file by pressing the Save button. The Save button is not active until the sampling is done. Figure 4. SMBus-Alert Window Figure.
