It defines a new standard for ease of use while delivering unmatched levels of performance and flexibility. The VC211L incorporates wide range of features which not only meets the local metering requirements, but also provides a complete solution for the gas distribution utilities to achieve fast, efficient and cost effective network operation and management. Approved for legal metrology The VC211L has been approved by NMI Netherlands for legal gas metering as per the EN standard. This involves a complete set of stringent test procedures to verify that the product performs the functions defined and maintains its performance under severe environmental conditions. Broad range of calculations Major calculations include mass, energy, volume, density, heating value, relative density, and compressibility as per the AGA 5, AGA 7, AGA 8, GERG, ISO 6976, and ISO standards. 1

Dedicated high speed counter hardware ensures no pulses gained or lost even at extreme pulse rate conditions. The counter inputs accept dry contacts, reed switches, transistors, pulse generators, or NAMUR sensors. A separate auxiliary sensor excitation output is also provided to complete easy and direct interface to NAMUR sensors. The product, as per the AGA 7 standard, performs error curve correction based on flow rates, K factors or both. Flexible gas connection chromatograph The accuracy of measurements strongly relies on the availability of up to date gas information. The V C 2 11 L i n c o r p o r a t e s v e r y f l e x i b l e chromatograph device definitions to allow easy interfacing to almost any type of gas chromatograph supporting MODBUS protocol. When interfaced, VC211L automatically polls the external chromatograph at user defined intervals and retrieves information to maintain the quality of the measurements. R emote upload/download of gas information Connection to a gas chromatograph ensures the accuracy and reliability of measurements only at a specific station. VC211L has the solution to expand the same accuracy and reliability to each and every station in the network. The gas information available at a specific remote station can be retrieved, or entered manually by the control center and transferred to the designated sites seamlessly. This feature not only provides easy and automatic update of gas information to all stations, thus allowing more accurate overall production data be calculated, but also eliminates the need for costly site accesses at periodic intervals. 2

Up to five users can be defined in the unit. There are four user types available with different levels of accessing, viewing, programming, or calibration privileges. Local or remote users must login to the VC211L before performing most of the operations. The system wide password must also be provided for all remote accesses. All local or remote login attempts regardless of the access granted or rejected are stored in the event log with time stamp and user information. A mechanical lock and seal completes the security system and avoids tampering of the instrument. There is no mechanical components such as switches, push buttons, potentiometers or trimmers which affects configuration, measurement or calibration of the unit. Real time alarm, warning and event logging Measurement related alarms and warnings are stored in the non-volatile memory. Up to 250 records can be stored for later real time data analysis. Each entry consists of a real timestamp, type information, a short description, and value at the moment of alarm. 1 year historical data storage The VC211L archives important measurement information in its non-volatile Flash memory. This includes hourly, daily and monthly storage of uncorrected, corrected, and base volumes, energy, mass, temperature and pressure values. History entries are time stamped for later data analysis in real times. Multiple copies are maintained for increased reliability. The VC211L maintains dual accumulators for each accumulated variable, namely normal and disturbed. Normal accumulators are operational when there is no alarm and they freeze when an alarm exists. In this case the disturbed accumulators become operational. The normal accumulators, upon user configuration, can stay operational during an alarm condition. Warnings do not cause accumulators to freeze or run. Various events related to the operation of the VC211L are stored in the non-volatile memory for later analysis. Each entry consists of a real timestamp, type information, a short description, and additional information. Up to 250 events can be stored. Multiple copies of alarm, warning and event logs are maintained for increased data reliability. 3

5 Extensive communication features The VC211L offers two RS232 ports, one of which is with handshake signals, and one isolated port which can be configured as RS232 or RS485, supporting both point-to-point and multi-dropped protocols. An infrared port, supporting IrDA standard, is also provided for local accesses without the need to open unit enclosure. The VC211L is equipped with extensive communication features to meet the operational and maintenance requirements of a typical gas distribution utility having large number of remote stations spread over a wide area. The unit supports GPRS, UHF, RS232, RS485 and fiber optics communications to allow remote reading, control and diagnostics. This greatly reduces the operational and maintenance costs. The VC211L may either be used as stand-alone metering equipment or as part of a gas distribution network. When used in a distribution network incorporating single or multiple communications media, remote access is provided either directly or via the Internet, regardless of the communications media that the unit is attached to. Remote configuration, monitoring and diagnostics All configuration, monitoring, and diagnostics features are also available remotely via the designated communication channels, to form a modern supervisory distribution management system which requires very low number of visits to remote stations and fewer personnel for operations and maintenance. The protocol detection is automatic; consequently all ports can be used for application purposes while performing programming and configuration tasks thru any of the ports when needed. Each port can be independently configured as a Modbus master or slave. In master mode, external Modbus slaves (i.e., gas chromatograph, intelligent transmitters, PLCs, etc.) are scanned based on the configuration. When configured as slave, the internal database is accessible to external Modbus masters. Access via the Internet The VC211L supports Internet connection thru GPRS networks. Each VC211L automatically logs into a Windows based routing software, Routeflo that usually runs on a computer located at the operations center and thus becomes accessible via the Internet. The users, after passing several security levels, can perform the same operations they would by local connections. Each VC211L in the system is identified by a unique ID. User simply provides the ID to access to a particular unit without needing to know how the unit is attached to the communications network. Routerflo automatically provides bidirectional connection with the unit to be accessed. 4

The openness of ARM architecture is preferred in the hardware design for quick adaptation to future processor variants, thus offering longer product and parts availability for the customers. Real-time, accuracy and performance measurements Accuracy and stability of the measurements depends mostly on the input data reading system. With its high resolution, precision and performance analog input subsystem combined with digital temperature compensation techniques, the VC211L achieves very high performance levels. Speed is another key requirement in today s gas industry. High performance RISC processing architecture, for instance, achieves AGA 8 detailed method calculations be performed in less than 30ms while not compromising the accuracy and stability. The calculations are of hierarchical chain structure and real time event driven. A real time event (e.g. a new temperature or pressure reading) triggers all consecutive calculations to be repeated and new results generated in real time basis. Isolated I/O Interfaces Analog and digital I/O subsystems are both separated from each other and from digital common. The product is also certified for use in hazardous areas. Local automation and control Analog and digital outputs are provided for local monitoring and control or to interface with external control and automation systems. Retransmission of internal process variables via the analog or digital output channels is available as well the discrete outputs based on specific alarms. The Configflo is designed to increase productivity and reduce support and maintenance costs. It will allow a wide range of time saving options, such as template based configuration, runtime and historical data analysis, calibration, diagnostics, log viewing and automatic generation of documents. Versatile user interface Front panel operations are via a 4x20 LCD display and 24 keys. Separate numeric and navigation keys are provided for faster data entry and easy steering between many screen displays. Low power design In addition to its advanced features and high performance, the VC211L is designed to consume extremely low power to better meet demanding application requirements. The unit supports solar power and battery backup operation with its additional uninterrupted power management module. The power consumption may be further reduced by enabling semi quiescent I/O operation and various power saving options. Robust industrial housing The VC211L is housed in an IP66 rated industrial enclosure and supports both wall and panel mounting. Field connections are via the pluggable screw terminal blocks. 6
