The VIP-IP is a video image processing board, designed to provide real-time traffic incident notifications, data and video images. Important notice: the specifications given hereafter are subject to changes without prior notice. All specifications given are not necessarily met by the standard configuration, but could impose the use of additional hardware/software as options to the standard configuration. 3

5 5 Product description 5.1 Introduction VIP-IP is a multi-functional Video Image Processing module for traffic control. VIP-IP integrates automatic incident detection, data collection, vehicle presence detection, digital recording of pre- and post incident video sequences and streaming video in one board for a variety of traffic management applications (tunnels, highways, bridges, etc...). The high performance onboard ARM A8 processor allows for advanced algorithms, such as stalled vehicle detection, adaptive shadow suppression, smoke warning, pedestrian detection etc.., to run simultaneously on a single VIP-IP board. The field-proven Traficon algorithms ensure high reliability and a low false alarm rate of the video detection system. The VIP-IP connects to IP network cameras that provide either MPEG-4 or H.264 compressed video and generates streaming video back out, with embedded detection information. A digital input and 2 outputs are included on the base board. The VIP-IP comes with a variety of housing options: full 19 rack housing, half 19 rack housing or as a stand-alone box. 7 6 Functional specifications 6.1 Automatic incident detection The VIP-IP is capable of detecting following events: Traffic incidents 1. Stopped Vehicle: in up to 16 zones 2. Wrong-way driver: in up to 8 zones 3. Underspeed: in up to 8 zones 4. Speed drop: in up to 8 zones 5. Pedestrian: in up to 16 zones 2. Fallen object: in up to 16 zones 3. Smoke 6.2 Traffic monitoring and traffic data collection The VIP-IP can collect data per lane and per vehicle class. Note that for optimized data performance, the camera should be mounted in a typical data-collection-position (about 80 angle with the road, looking rather steep), as the gaps between vehicle must be visible Traffic flow data 1. Average vehicle length per lane 6.3 Presence detection VIP-IP hosts presence (vehicle present, queue length) detection algorithms for up to 8 zones. 6.4 Technical monitoring The VIP-IP provides following alarms and information for technical monitoring. 1. 9 6.6 Detection performance Below is an indication on the detection reliability that can be expected for the various algorithms in different circumstances. This data is based on both internal performance tests and field experience. This data assumes: incidents occurring in the field of view of the camera normal weather conditions no occlusion Note that camera position (height, position in the road, angle), configuration of the detection zones and camera specifications can seriously affect detection performance. These performance specifications are valid only for a detection range up to 20 times camera mounting height except when indicated differently in table below. Performance is also subject to an appropriate lens focal length, in relation to detection distance and height. Contact Traficon for guidance, simulation & approval of camera optics. 17 8 Software specifications 8.1 Introduction The VIP-IP board behaviour can be customized through a user-friendly PC-based Traficon Configuration Tool (TCT). In operational mode, all traffic data, events, alarms and video images generated by the VIP-IP board are sent to a Traficon Management System (TMS Flux), a server application that links the VIP-IP to any SCADA system or provides filtered traffic data and incident information to a local user interface. The TMS Flux server stores data, events and alarms in a relational database and offers real-time data over standard Ethernet networks.
