5 TECHNICAL GUIDANCE DOCUMENT Cogetherm 1-5kW Before starting the system, please read the safety instructions. The non-observance of the safety instructions can put you in dangerous situations and cause damage to the boiler. a) Safety Instructions The cogenerator can only be used with a perfectly functioning boiler. Failures or damages which can have a negative impact on safety should be rectified immediately by qualified personnel. Access to moving parts and elements under electrical tension is reserved only for competent personnel. Before you start any maintenance work, it is necessary to shut down the system completely and leave time for the boiler to cool off. It is forbidden to repair or modify our system. Only personnel with appropriate qualifications are entitled to do so. A non-smoking notice should be placed visibly in the boiler room. It is recommended to equip the boiler room with a fire extinguisher in good working condition and the room should be ventilated in accordance with current legislation. Unauthorised persons, and particularly children, should be barred from entering the boiler room. It is necessary to inspect the door of the boiler and the connections to the hydraulic lines once a month, in order to avert leaking or other damages. Safety devices and protections should not be removed, twisted or blocked in any way. It is recommended to install an anti-scald protection valve (hot/cold water) on the DHW network to set the temperature of hot water above 60 C. The cogenerator can be installed and used only in mechanical and boiler rooms that satisfy legal requirements. Protections must be checked once a year by a specialist. 5
6 Cogetherm 1-5kW TECHNICAL GUIDANCE DOCUMENT b) Functioning of the cogeneration system The water comes out of the boiler with a maximum of 110 C and goes through a plate exchanger (called evaporator) which transfers the calories of the boiler circuit to the turbine circuit. The fluid of the second circuit changes from a liquid to a gaseous state while going through the exchanger, this steam then goes through a turbine which operates a generator that produces electricity. Next to this turbine, there is a second exchanger (called condenser), which transfers the calories of the turbine circuit to the domestic heating circuit. Next to the condenser, there is a liquid tank to make sure that the pump absorbs liquid. Temperature is measured through different sensors: In the heating circuit (measures temperature in and out of condenser) In the boiler circuit (measures temperature in and out of evaporater) 6

15 TECHNICAL GUIDANCE DOCUMENT Cogetherm 1-5kW 5.1) Description The controller in this power system has two functions: - Rectify the alternating voltage coming from the generator to transfer it to the inverter. - Control of the Diversion charge: The unit may ask an additional external resistive load when the rectified DC voltage exceeds 400 V DC (may be optional). Never use it as a safety brake. The turbine must have its own safety brake, mechanical or electronic. a) Operating parameters Input voltage range (non harmful) Input voltage range (operational) Current input max while operational Nominal output power + bypass Max. output current + bypass Values 0V AC to 500V AC 40V AC to 500V AC Up to 40A 12KW / 8KW 40A DC / 30A eff. 16 Cogetherm 1-5kW Technical guidance document c) Overall system d) Operating principles The controller is used to transfer the power to the inverter (max 20KW). Normally there is no current through the load. If the input range (DC) becomes too important, the branch circuit with the resistive load will divide this increase in power. This charge is also used when the inverter cannot connect to the network, the energy disperses itself in the charge. By compating the output voltage, the controller protects the system as a whole. e) Bearing bypass load power up/down The user can control the branch circuit voltage per unit Switch U1 Switch U1 Voltage (DC) 1, 2 OFF V ON = 400, V OFF = ON, 2 OFF V ON = 500, V OFF = OFF, 2 ON V ON = 500, V OFF = 400 1, 2 ON V ON = 600, V OFF = 500 SWITCH U1 16
