Internal microprocessor driven circuitry allows all CPUs to boot simultaneously and error-free. Port selection is accomplished by front panel push buttons or commands typed on the keyboard. Port lights and status LED s continuously update on the front panel. 3 MATERIALS Materials Supplied with this kit: NTI KEEMUX-P4-LC KVM Switch Materials Not Supplied, BUT REQUIRED: Cables must be used to connect each PS/2 CPU to the KEEMUX-P4-LC KVM switch: Monitor, keyboard, and - VKMEXT-3/6/10/15/25-MM mouse interface cable Where MM indicates male-to-male connector Cables can be purchased from Network Technologies Inc by calling (800) (800-RGB-TECH) in the US and Canada or (330) (worldwide). FEATURES AND FUNCTIONS 1. MODE LEDs- for visual indication of switch mode status 2. CPU Status LEDs- for visual indication of connection between the user and a specific CPU. 3. CPU Select Switches- push to manually switch to a specific CPU 4. USER Keyboard- 6 pin minidin female connectors- for connection of the user's keyboard 5. USER Mouse- 6 pin minidin female connector- for connection of the user's mouse 6. USER Monitor- 15HD VGA female connector- for connection of the user's monitor 7. CPU x Mouse- 6 pin minidin female connector- for connection of the mouse cable from a CPU 8. CPU x Monitor- 15HD VGA female connector- for connection of the video cable from a CPU 9. CPU x Keyboard- 6 pin minidin female connector- for connection of the keyboard cable from a CPU Other Features Supported display resolution is 1900 x 1200 Devices (keyboard, monitor, and mouse) can be hot-plugged provided devices compatible with the drivers already loaded are reconnected. 2

4 INSTALLATION 1. Turn OFF power to all CPUs that will be connected to the KEEMUX-P4-LC KVM switch before connecting or disconnecting any cables.! WARNING! DAMAGE MAY OCCUR TO THE CPU IF POWER IS NOT DISCONNECTED BEFORE CONNECTING OR DISCONNECTING CABLES. 2. Connect a PS/2 keyboard to the "USER" purple female 6 pin minidin keyboard port on the KEEMUX-P4-LC KVM switch. See Fig Connect a PS/2 mouse to the USER" green female 6 pin minidin mouse port on the KEEMUX-P4-LC KVM switch. Fig Connect a VGA multi-scan monitor to the "USER" female 15HD monitor port on the KEEMUX-P4-LC KVM switch. Using the 6 pin minidin cable ends of a VKMEXT-xx-MM, connect the keyboard and mouse ports of a PS/2 CPU to the CPU 1 purple female 6 pin minidin keyboard and green female 6 pin minidin mouse ports on the KEEMUX-P4-LC KVM switch. See Fig Using the 15HD cable ends of a VKMEXT-xx-MM, connect the video port of a PS/2 CPU to the CPU 1 female 15HD monitor port on the KEEMUX-P4-LC KVM switch. Be sure to tighten the two screws on the cable connector to the KEEMUX-P4-LC KVM switch securely. 7. Repeat steps 5 & 6 for connecting each PS/2 CPU to the remaining CPU 2, CPU 3, and CPU 4 video, keyboard, and mouse ports on the KEEMUX-P4-LC KVM switch. Fig. 3 4

6 Power Up Sequence The KEEMUX-P4-LC KVM switch is powered by the CPUs it is connected to 1. Turn ON power to monitor. 2. Turn ON power to one or more CPU(s). Power Down Sequence 1. Power-down all CPUs 2. Power-down the monitor USING THE NTI KEEMUX-P4-LC KVM SWITCH The NTI KEEMUX-P4-LC KVM switch can be operated by the CPU SELECT button or by keyboard control. Front Panel Control There is a touch-switch and LED on the front panel of the KEEMUX-P4-LC KVM switch for each CPU. Pressing any touchswitch on the front panel of the KEEMUX-P4-LC KVM switch will connect the selected CPU to the devices (monitor, keyboard, and mouse). Holding down any front panel touch-switch for more than 2 seconds will cause the KEEMUX-P4-LC KVM switch to cycle through all modes of operation- COMMAND, SCAN, and NORMAL. The two MODE LEDs on the front panel indicate which mode is selected. Release the touch-switch when the LEDs indicate the desired mode. When no mode LEDs are illuminated the user is in Normal Mode connected to the indicated CPU. Keyboard Control Hot Key To change port connections incrementally (1 to 2 to 3 to 4 to 1): Press Ctrl - Ctrl Each time the Hot Key sequence is used a different CPU port LED will illuminate. The illuminated LED indicates which port is active after the sequence. NOTE: The Hot Key sequence will not work from within Command Mode. Command Mode In order to control the other features of the switch with the keyboard, Command Mode must be enabled. To enter/exit Command Mode from the keyboard: ~ (ACCENT Press Ctrl KEY) When Command Mode is enabled, all 3 status lights on the keyboard will illuminate and the Command Mode LED on the KEEMUX-P4-LC will illuminate. With Command Mode enabled the following functions are available: (NOTE: The user must exit Command Mode in order to type to a CPU.) Mouse movement will be frozen while in Command Mode. Note: The KEEMUX-P4-LC KVM switch will automatically exit Command Mode if idle for 10 seconds. + ` Command Mode Function: Keystroke: Increment Port I or (select the next higher port ex ) Decrement Port D or (select the next lower port ex ) Selects a specific port (0-9) (0-9) (Pxx would be P01, P02, etc.) P - x - x 5

7 Command Mode (Cont'd) Function: Keystroke: Toggle Scan Mode ON and OFF S (The Scan Mode LED will toggle ON and OFF.) Sets scan time-out period for each port. (0-2) T - x - (0-9) x - (0-9) x (xxx from 002 to 255. ie. t002 would set the time-out period for 2 seconds. Note: all three digits must be used including the leading zeros, ie. 2 seconds= "002".) Print the code version to a text editor V (This will print the version of the code in the KEEMUX-P4-LC switch to a text editor window for use when troubleshooting the switch.) *Simulate Hot-Plug to CPU H - H (Refreshes the drivers for the mouse and keyboard- refreshing communication between the CPU and mouse and keyboard.) Exit Command Mode Esc OR Ctrl + ~ (ACCENT KEY) ` *CAUTION: This command should only be used if the mouse and keyboard drivers support hot-plugging. If the drivers do not support hot-plugging, this may cause the keyboard and mouse to stop responding. Scan Mode When in Scan Mode the switch scans to each port. (The SCAN LED on the front panel will illuminate and remain ON while in Scan Mode. ) The port remains active while in use. When the port becomes idle for the configured dwell time (default time-out period is 5 seconds) the KEEMUX-P4-LC KVM switch will switch to the next CPU port. See Command Mode section above for configuring the scan dwell time. NOTE: The keyboard and mouse must remain idle for the full scan dwell time before the KEEMUX-P4-LC KVM switch will select the next port. Normal Mode The KEEMUX-P4-LC KVM switch is in Normal Mode when only the LED for the active CPU is illuminated solid. When in Normal Mode, the user is controlling only the CPU to which the user is connected through the KEEMUX-P4-LC switch. In Normal Mode the KEEMUX-P4-LC KVM switch will only switch between CPUs when the user uses either keyboard control or button control on the KEEMUX-P4-LC KVM switch. Keyboard Features The keyboard configuration of each CPU is saved in the NTI KEEMUX-P4-LC KVM switch. For example, if the CPU attached to Port 2 had CAPS LOCK and NUM LOCK selected the last time that CPU was accessed, then they will automatically be set when that CPU is accessed again. 6

8 TROUBLESHOOTING Verify all cables are securely connected and that the installation procedure was carefully followed. Verify that the power-up sequence was observed. If a CPU seems to be locked up, unplug the USER keyboard and mouse cables (not the CPU keyboard and mouse) from the KEEMUX-P4-LC KVM switch and reconnect them. If it is necessary to change mice, only use another equivalent mouse. If after changing the mouse, the mouse no longer works, try using the Simulate Hot-plug command.
