4 IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS 1. Read Owner s Manual After unpacking this product, read the owner s manual carefully, and follow all the operating and safety instructions. 2. Power Sources This product should be operated only from the type of power source indicated on the label. If you are not sure of the type of power supply to your home or business, consult your product dealer or local power company 3. Ventilation Slots and openings in the product are provided for ventilation and to ensure reliable operation of the product and to protect it from overheating, and these openings must not be blocked or covered. The product should not be placed in a built-in installation such as a bookcase or rack unless proper ventilation is provided or the manufacturer s instructions have been adhered to. 4. Heat The product should be situated away from heat sources such as radiators, heat registers, stoves, or other products that produce heat. 5. Water and Moisture Do not use this product near water. Do not exceed the humidity specifications for the product as detailed in the Appendix section in this manual 6. Cleaning Unplug this product from the wall outlet before cleaning. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosol cleaners. Use a damp cloth for cleaning. 7. Power Cord Protection Power-supply cords should not be routed so that they are not likely to be walked on or pinched by items placed against them, paying particular attention to cords at plugs, convenience receptacles, and the point where they exit from the product. 8. Overloading Do not overload wall outlets; extension cords, or integral convenience receptacles as this can result in a risk of fire or electrical shock. 9. Lightning For added protection for this product during storm, or when it is left unattended and unused for long periods of time, unplug it from the wall outlet. This will prevent damage to the product due to lightning and power line surges. 10. Object and Liquid Entry Points Never insert foreign objects into the any part of this product, as they may touch dangerous voltage points or short-out parts that could result in fire or electrical shock. Never spill liquid of any kind on this product. 11. Location Do not place this product on an unstable cart, stand, tripod, bracket, or table. The product may fall, causing serious personal injury and serious damage to the unit. 12. Burden Do not place a heavy object on or step on this product. The object may fall, causing serious personal injury and serious damage to the unit. NOTES ON HANDLING Please retain the original shipping carton and/or packing materials supplied with this product. To ensure the integrity of this product when shipping or moving, repackage the unit as it was originally received from the manufacturer. Do not use volatile liquids, such as aerosol spray, near this product. Do not leave rubber or plastic objects in contact with this product for extended periods of time. Rubber or plastic objects left in contact with this product for extended periods of time will leave marks on the finish. The top and rear panels of the unit may become warm after long periods of use. This is not a malfunction. NOTES ON LOCATING Place this product on a level surface. Do not use it on a shaky or unstable surface such as a wobbling table or inclined stand. ii 28079AB

5 NOTES ON CLEANING Use a soft dry cloth for cleaning. For stubborn dirt, soak the cloth in a weak detergent solution, wring well and wipe. Use a dry cloth to wipe it dry. Do not use any type of solvent, such as thinner and benzene, as they may damage the surface of this product. If you use a chemical saturated cloth to clean the unit, follow that product s instructions. NOTES ON MAINTENANCE This storage unit is designed to last for long periods of time. To keep your unit always operational we recommend regular inspection maintenance (cleaning parts or replacement). For details contact your nearest dealer. NOTES ON MOISTURE CONDENSATION Moisture condensation damages the DVR unit. Read the following information carefully. Moisture condensation occurs during the following cases: When this product is brought directly from a cool location to a warm location. When this product is moved to a hot and humid location from a cool location. When this product is moved to a cool and humid location from a warm location. When this product is used in a room where the temperature fluctuates. When this product is used near an air-conditioning unit vent When this product is used in a humid location. Do not use this product when moisture condensation may occur. If this product is used in such a situation, it may damage internal components. Remove any CD discs, connect the power cord of the unit to the wall outlet, turn on the unit, and leave it for two to three hours. After two to three hours, the unit will have warmed up and evaporated any moisture. Keep the unit connected to the wall and moisture will seldom occur. 9 INTRODUCTION PRODUCT DESCRIPTION The 1U External Storage unit provides convenient storage expansion with the robustness and value expected from OpenEye. This storage unit utilizes the JBOD specification to build up to 2TB of external storage or greater through a SATA-SCSI interface. Using SATA drives makes the usnit affordable and due to their wide availability, allows you to quickly replace individual Hard Disk Drives (HDDs) when necessary. OpenEye storage units are a perfect match with SCSI-enabled DVR Security systems. GETTING STARTED IDENTIFYING INCLUDED COMPONENTS The GraniteRack 1U Rackmount Chassis package has everything needed to get started, including rack mount brackets, multi-mode terminator, power cable, drive bay keys and a SCSI cable. 15 1U BASICS CONNECTING TO A DVR 1. Plug the SCSI Cable to the SCSI IN connection on the back of the 1U unit. 2. Plug the other end of the SCSI cable into the SCSI port on the back of the DVR. 3. If connecting a single 1U unit to the DVR, plug the Mutli-Mode Terminator to the SCSI OUT connection AB 7

16 CONNECTING MULTIPLE TO 1U UNITS 1. Connect the SCSI Cable to the SCSI IN connection on the back of the 1U unit. 2. Connect the other end of the SCSI cable into the SCSI port on the back of the DVR. 3. To connect a 2 nd 1U Connect the other SCSI Cable into the SCSI IN port on the second 1U unit. 4. Connect the other end of the SCSI Cable into the SCSI OUT port of the first unit. (Repeat for multiple units) 5. Connect the Multi-Mode Terminator to the SCSI OUT port of the 2 nd DVR AB

SETTING THE 1U SCSI ID When connecting multiple 1U units each unit must have a unique SCSI ID. The SCSI ID can be set on each unit via a dip switch on the back of the 1U unit.

SCSI BIOS Setting CAUTION: Do not change the SCSI ID while the device is running. NOTE: Install the Multi-Mode Terminator on the last unit.

17 SETTING THE 1U SCSI ID When connecting multiple 1U units each unit must have a unique SCSI ID. The SCSI ID can be set on each unit via a dip switch on the back of the 1U unit. The Chart below illustrates the settings of the dip switches when adding multiple units. Each unit must have a unique SCSI ID to identify the device. SCSI BIOS Setting CAUTION: Do not change the SCSI ID while the device is running. NOTE: Install the Multi-Mode Terminator on the last unit. SETTING THE 1U MODE The 1U Rack mount system s MODE setting configures the unit to run in either JBOD mode or Normal mode. In either mode, the transfer rate can be set by adjusting the MODE dip switches on the back of the 1U unit. For DVR, Use Normal/40MB/sec 28079AB 9

18 TURNING ON THE 1U 1. Connect all cables including the SCSI Cable and the Power Cable. 2. Plug the connected power cable into an outlet. 3. Flip the Power Switch to the ON position, starting the unit 4. If daisy chaining multiple 1U units -- power the first unit in the chain on and wait 10 sec. before powering on each unit after the previous unit has completed booting. TURNING OFF THE 1U 1. Flip the Power Switch to the OFF position, turning off the unit MULTIPLE SCSI FORMAT SUPPORT The subsystem supports the SCSI interface standards listed below. NOTE: Data bit and cable length restrictions must be followed. 19 SCSI CARD BIOS SETUP CONFIGURING THE BIOS 1. Properly connect the 1U unit to the DVR 2. Power on the GraniteRack 1U Unit 3. Power on the DVR and Press F1 to enter the SCSI bios 4. At the SETUP FUNCTION menu, select ADAPTOR SETUP 28079AB 11

20 5. Select PCI Master DMA Burst Mode and set to Disable by pressing spacebar 6. Select Support LUN# 0 Up to Max LUN# and set to 3 by pressing the spacebar 7. Select Include In Scan and set to No by pressing spacebar 8. Select SCSI Speed Setup and press Enter 9. Configure the XFER speed to match the transfer rate that was set on the MODE dipswitch on the back of the 1U unit 10. Press Enter to exit SCSI Speed Setup 11. Press Enter to exit the Adapter Parameters Menu 12. Select Exit Setup and press Enter AB
