3 D.C.M Dynamic Contact Measurement User Manual page 2(22) 1 GENERAL 1.1 APPLICATION AREA The DCM units are used to perform dynamic contact measurements for High Voltage Circuit Breakers in sub stations with both side grounded. Static resistance measurement can also be performed for breakers with two contact element in series, both side grounded and the middle point not grounded. To be able to perform Static resistance measurement for breakers with one breaking element, only one side can be grounded. 1.2 OVERVIEW The test equipment for Dynamic contact measurement consists of one DCM-CU unit and from one up to three DCM-2 units. That means up to 6 contact elements can be tested at the same time. DCM-CU unit handles the communication between the PC, external switch analyser and DCM-2 unit(s). It also charge two capacitors (super cap) in each DCM-2 unit that is used to give a high measurement current during operation. DCM-2 unit(s) handles the output of the current and sample the current values and voltage drop values during the operation. After the operation has been done the current and voltage drop curves are downloaded to the PC-software for further evaluation. 2. SAFETY Important! 2.1 GENERAL This instrument shall only be used by authorized and educated personnel. It s the operators responsible to read and follow all operating and safety instructions for connecting and using this instrument. Always keep the below safety instructions in mind when using the instrument. 2.2 SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS Local safety regulations. Always follow local safety regulations for work on high-voltage circuit breakers. Ground connection The DCM units can only be used in electrical system with single grounds. If there is a High voltage ground and Low voltage ground make sure that there is no potential voltages difference between these grounds. If that s not the case, consult local safety regulations. Always connect the separate ground terminal on DCM-2 to protective ground before any other connections. Check that the separate protective ground wire is in good condition before connection. Make sure that the power socket for mains is a grounded outlet and that the power cable is in good condition before connecting the main power to the control unit DCM-CU. Connections to the instrument. All cables to the DCM units shall first be connected to the DCM-units (DCM-CU and DCM-2) before any connections to the test object. Only use original cables for connection and make sure that the cables are in good conditions. Before any connections to the high voltage circuit breaker. Make sure that the breaker is in Close position and disconnected from the line at both sides. Make sure that breaker is grounded on both sides. Make sure that any remote control device is disconnected from the control circuits of the breaker. Make first connection to the breaker poles before any connections to the breaker mechanism. Connections in general Take care when working near bare connectors and bus bars. Contact with a conductor may cause an electrical shock. Take special care at wet conditions. Surrounding personal Make sure that surrounding personal can t touch the breaker during a test

Check and adjustment for check and calibration of DCM units. Or send the unit to for calibration. 7. CHECK AND ADJUSTMENT Note! Check and adjustments must only be performed by authorized and educated personnel. Check and adjustments of DCM-2 are done with the PC-software BTS11. The personnel that are allowed to make checks and calibration described in this chapter 7. Check and adjustment are assumed to familiarly with the PC-software BTS11. Refer to BTS11 User manual for operating instructions. Select Menu Service and function DCM-unit to get to the service window for DCM-2 All analogue inputs on the DCM-2 are software calibrated. Calibration can easy be done from a calibration wizard. All calibration constants and password for changing constants are saved in the DCM-2 unit. Note! Password to save new calibration at delivery is elcon Instrument needed Variable DC-voltage source: ± 0.125V DC, ± 1.25 VDC Voltage instrument: ± 1.25 VDC accuracy ± 0,02% Reference resistance ohm, accuracy <= 0.5% Principle of calibration Two points are measured at about 10 respective about 90% of full scale. The values are measured with both the DCM-2 and a connected reference instrument. With use of the equation for a straight line the new calibration constants are calculated. IMPORTANT! All voltage inputs and current outputs must be checked/calibrated. All voltage inputs must be checked/calibrated before Current outputs (resistance).
