3 TO-314 / Operation and Instruction Manual Kit, Variable Frequency and Voltage/ PoWerMaster ADV Variable Frequency and Variable Voltage Kit 1) General The Variable Frequency and Voltage Kit is manufactured by the ITW GSE Group, Hobart Ground Power, Troy, Ohio 45373, U.S.A. and is identified by Hobart Part No This is an optional kit with our series of A, 400 Hz. PoWerMaster ADV solid-state converter ground power units. 2) Description and Operation The parts in this kit modify the function of an ADV convertor to add the capability to adjust the Output Voltage and Output Frequency using externally supplied, isolated, 0-10 VDC signals. There are two modes of operation for this unit. Auto Mode The output voltage is regulated to the level set by the front panel controls. Refer to Operation Section (1-3) of Operation and Maintenance Manual for the adjustment procedure. The fixed output frequency is controlled by a crystal on the VFV (Variable Voltage & Frequency) PC Board. The overvoltage, under-voltage, over-frequency and under-frequency trip levels are the standard settings defined in the Troubleshooting Section (2-1) of Operation and Maintenance Manual. Manual Mode The output voltage is controlled by an isolated 0-10 VDC signal connected to terminals PT1 and PT2 of the VFV PC Board. The output frequency is controlled by an isolated 0-10 VDC signal connected to terminals PT3 and PT4 of the VFV PC Board. The over-voltage, under-voltage, over-frequency and under-frequency trip levels in the Manual Mode are changed to the following: AC 400 Hz Converter Protective Output Faults in Manual Mode AC Over-Voltage AC Under-Voltage AC Over-Frequency AC Under-Frequency Trips at 141 volts after a 0.5-second time delay Trips at 180 volts in 50 milliseconds Trips at any value between volts after an 8-second delay Trips immediately at any voltage below 60 volts Trips at any value between Hz after a 5-second delay Trips immediately at any frequency above 475 Hz. Trips at any value between Hz after a 7-second delay Trips immediately at any frequency below 325-Hz. The operating mode is selected by a switch on the VFV board. The converter must be turned off before the operating mode can be changed. CAUTION Make certain the converter is turned completely off before switching between the auto and manual modes. Failure to turn the converter off could result in damage to the converter. January 26, 2011 Revision 1 Page 1

Refer to Figure 1 for the location of this board within the ADV converter. With the system off, connect the external analog voltage and frequency control signals to the terminals PT1 through PT4 as shown above. Set the mode switch to the desired position before turning on the system. When the system is on, the circuit board LEDs indicate which mode is selected (Green = Manual, Yellow = Auto).
