UPS/TA GB/ITS6.E page 4 SECTIO 3 OPERATIO. OPERATIG PRICIPLE In normal operating conditions, the IT-SWITCH supplies the load from the preferred source. The latter can be selected by the operator, depending on the operating requirements of the site. Two different transfer modes can be selected: - the manual mode by pressing the push button on the control panel: " SOURCE " to supply the load from source " SOURCE " to supply the load from source - or the automatic mode, upon source failure. In such a case, the IT-SWITCH: - senses a failure on the preferred source and ensures the automatic load transfer to the alternate source, - senses a failure on the alternate source and ensures the automatic seamless load transfer to the priority source, following a manual transfer to the alternate source. OTE: the preferred source (source or source ) is selected from the control panel (see.) of from the TOP VISIO supervision workstation.

UPS/TA GB/ITS6.E page 6.. Key controls Key makes it possible to close static switch SW. Key makes it possible to close static switch SW. Key (alarm reset) shows three functions: - light pressing for resetting the audible beep, - long pressing (5 seconds minimum) for selecting the preferred source. - pressing together with key or (depending on the source supplying energy) causes the load disconnection (see.3.4)..3. OPERATIO EPLAATIOS The IT-SWITCH provides two main operating modes: - the manual transfer by the operator either locally or remotely (through the TOPVISIO supervision centre) - the automatic transfer by detection when the voltage of the preferred source exceeds the permitted values. The transfer is without sources overlapping..3.. Manual transfer The operator can control the load transfer from one source to the other by using keys or on the control panel. When pressing any keys, an audible beep is given to indicate that the request has been taken into account. The manual transfer is seamless. If synchronisation conditions are not fulfilled after 5 seconds (factory standard setting), an asynchronous transfer is performed. If the latter is impossible (e.g. input source out of tolerance) the following led lights! TRASFER IMPOSSIBLE ote: The alarm is automatically deleted when normal conditions are restored..3.. Automatic transfer The automatic transfer from the preferred source to the alternate one is seamless for the load. It is carried out if a voltage drop occurs on the preferred source or if the latter fails. When the preferred source is restored, the IT-SWITCH automatically transfers the load back to this source after 3 seconds. An automatic transfer from the alternate to the preferred source can also be performed following a manual transfer request.
UPS/TA GB/ITS6.E page 7 To ensure safe transfer, the IT-SWITCH constantly monitors if the alternate source is present and within the tolerances. If not, the transfer function is inhibited and the IT-SWITCH immediately gives the alarm to inform the operator that no transfer can be performed. In case of short-circuit on the output of one of the loads supplied, the transfer function is inhibited. This facility is for preventing the short-circuit transmission to the other path which is therefore left untouched. IMPORTAT: this functionality is not available on the IT-SWITCH model S Transfer can either be synchronous or asynchronous depending on the synchronisation of the sources and on the configuration of the IT-SWITCH. Synchronous transfer The synchronous transfer is automatic when both sources S and S fulfil synchronisation conditions, that are when the phase shift is within the values admitted (in standard +/- 5 ). In such case, the source switching does not cause changes of phase. If the phase shift exceeds the values admitted, the synchronous automatic transfer to the other source is inhibited, unless the system is set with the synchronous and asynchronous conditions (software configuration). OTE: The IT-SWITCH is set in standard for synchronous and asynchronous type transfers. It can however be set for synchronous transfers only if the load connected is sensible to phase changes. Most information processing equipment, servers, computers and so on, are not sensible to significant changes of phase. IMPORTAT: the IT-SWITCH model S can not be set for synchronous transfer only. Asynchronous transfer The automatic asynchronous transfer is only executed if the software setting has been validated (standard factory setting) and if sources S and S are not synchronised (phase shift exceeding the admitted values). In such a case, the source switching can show a significant change of phase. This type of transfer is for safe load switching between sources that are not constantly monitored or exceptionally out of phase Transfer blocked In the event of five consecutive automatic transfers within minutes (0 seconds), the alarm (or the alarm: 0 ) is given. At this stage, the transfer is blocked and the load is supplied by the alternate source. ote: to activate the transfer, press key or depending on the source preferred. IMPORTAT: the IT-SWITCH model S has no "transfer blocked" configuration
UPS/TA GB/ITS6.E page Load disconnection The load disconnection control is for load switching off, while sources and are present on the IT-SWITCH. The control key is :"alarm reset" (see.) Overload conditions As soon as the IT-SWITCH is overloaded (load rate > 03%) the general alarm is given. For currents and overload permitted values, please refer to 3. Operation on the preferred source: A request for transfer to the alternate source can be performed when the overload is half the nominal overload capacity. Two cases can arise: - if the transfer can be achieved, the load is transferred to the alternate source, - if the transfer is impossible, the IT-SWITCH gives the "imminent shutdown" alarm. When the maximum overload capacity is reached, the load is disconnected. Operation on the alternate source: In case of overload, the "imminent shutdown" alarm is given. When the maximum overload capacity is reached, the load is disconnected by the IT-SWITCH. Principle of the automatic start up: In case both sources fail while the IT-SWITCH is supplied by one or the other source, the unit resumes operation with the first one to be restored. The transfer to the preferred source is automatic when the latter is restored. The automatic start-up function can be configured and is activated by default.
UPS/TA GB/ITS6.E page 9 3. COMMISSIOIG - OPERATIO 3.. Preliminary checks Only initiate commissioning after completing: - earth bonding, - adequate connections of the IEC sockets (or connections to terminals). 3.. Safety - Reminders CAUTIO Even when switched off, the IT-SWITCH is constantly live, supply voltage is present at the input of source and. ADVICE Any loose item is secured. Do carefully follow the using or maintenance instructions described in the manual Preliminary conditions Source and Source are live Load supply From the control panel, press key:, for the load to be supplied by source, or, for the load to be supplied by source. If the operator selects the alternate source, the IT-SWITCH supplies the load from the source selected. However, the IT-SWITCH automatically switches the load to the preferred source after a few seconds Changing the source priority (models S, B and E) OTE: By default, source is preferred when switching on the unit. Press key for 5 seconds, and make sure that the led lights confirm the change of source. After changing the source priority, the load is automatically transferred, after a few seconds, to the newly preferred source.
UPS/TA GB/ITS6.E page Load disconnection Load disconnection opens the circuit of each source. The output is therefore no longer supplied. Press key "ALARM RESET" together with key or depending on the source that is supplying load current. At this stage the load is no longer supplied. OTE: If an alarm is displayed, it must be reset before sending any control. IMPORTAT: For an IT-SWITCH with manual bypass, the rack of the IT-SWITCH IS locked to the chassis and can not be removed as long as the switch is in position "" (normal operation). To remove the rack, cut off the input supply of sources and in order not to apply voltage to the load and place bypass the switch to position "" or "" Transfer to manual Bypass (IT-SWITCH Model E) The IT-SWITCH (model E) has two "manual bypasses": one to source and the other one to source. The load can be directly supplied by one or the other source. The manual bypass is controlled by 3-position switch located behind the access door in the front of the unit: - position "": position for normal operation, - position : manual bypass supplied by source, - position : manual bypass supplied by source Load transfer to manual bypass As each source has its "manual bypass", two cases can arise: a. the load is supplied by source : - open the access door on the front, - set the switch to position At this stage, the load is directly supplied by source. b. the load is supplied by source : - open the access door on the front, - set the switch to position At this stage, the load is directly supplied by source.
UPS/TA GB/ITS6.E page Return from manual bypass to the IT-SWITCH a. the load is supplied by manual bypass : On the rack of the IT-SWITCH : - open the access door on the front, - set the switch to "" At this stage the load is supplied through the IT-SWITCH. b. the load is supplied by manual bypass : On the rack of the IT-SWITCH: - open the access door on the front, - set the manual bypass switch to "". At this stage the load is supplied through the IT-SWITCH Seamless replacement of the electronic rack (IT-SWITCH model E) In normal operating conditions, the manual bypass switch is set to position "". Thus, the electronic rack is mechanically locked to the chassis in order to avoid any mishandling Removing the electronic rack Before pulling out the electronic rack, set the manual bypass switch to position or depending on the using conditions. Remove the rack; the load is still supplied by the selected path Replacing the electronic rack When repositioning the electronic rack, positions between the switch in the rack and the red marking on the chassis must correspond (see drawing below). The position of the manual bypass switch should correspond to the one indicated by the red marking on the chassis.
UPS/TA GB/ITS6.E page Operations to be performed: - open the access door on the front of the electronic rack, - place the manual bypass switch to the same position as the one indicated by the red marking on the chassis, - introduce the electronic rack into the chassis. 4. DESCRIPTIO OF THE VARIOUS STATES 4.. Transfer impossible The transfer becomes impossible if the conditions are as follows: - voltage outage or voltage out of tolerance on alternate source, - frequency out of tolerance, - phase on both sources out of tolerance and setting for synchronous transfer only - failure on the alternate source, - short-circuit downstream of the system. 4.. Imminent shutdown Conditions leading to imminent shutdown are as follows: - equipment ambient temperature fault, - overload alarm on preferred path supplying the load and transfer impossible (alternate source not available), - overload alarm on alternate path supplying the load. ote: the alarm IMMIET SHUTDOW informs the operator that the equipment is about to be stopped for safety reasons. 5. GEERAL ALARM The general alarm comprises: - imminent shutdown, - transfer impossible, - return impossible, - overload, - equipment ambient temperature.
SECTIO 4 UPS/TA GB/ITS6.E page 3 TROUBLE SHOOTIG AD MAITEACE 6. DIFFICULTIES DURIG COMMISSIOIG External causes: Check the connection and the presence of the power sources. In case of a malfunction, ensure neutral and phase connections are suitable on each source. If the green leds "Input voltage present on source " and "Input voltage present on source " are lit together with the orange led "transfer impossible", ensure that both sources have the same phase. For the proper functioning of the equipment, both supply sources should show: - the same voltage, - the same frequency, - the same phase. Internal causes, operation checking: If only the red led IMMIET SHUTDOW is lit, the electronic temperature has reached a critical level. 7. MAITEACE The IT-SWITCH is an equipment that was tested and set by the factory in compliance with quality requirement.
