As customers are often highly reliant on the operation of a data center, it is critical that data is available at all times and that it is stored in a reliable and energy-efficient way. Conceptpower DPA 500 Conceptpower DPA 120 ABB s uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems ensure this. A reliable UPS will guarantee a flow of continuous, clean power to the data center no matter what happens on the power supply side. No critical data center operates without an effective UPS. ABB provides a range of modular UPS solutions for use in large and mid-sized data centers, server rooms and other IT infrastructure applications, recognized as being at the forefront of power protection innovation and technology and are class-leading in terms of system reliability efficiency, availability, scalability and flexibility using less energy, generating less CO2, saving valuable floor space and achieving significant total cost of ownership savings making them ideal for data center applications. Any time a UPS fails and becomes unavailable, mission critical electrical loads are put at risk. The surest way to increase UPS availability is to have the correct design, use high quality components, ensure redundancy and eliminate downtime by minimizing MTTR (mean time to repair). True parallel architecture ABB s Conceptpower DPA UPS systems are based on Decentralized Parallel Architecture (DPA). Only a truly redundant architecture like DPA allows the modules to work as one system but without interdependence. In the unlikely event of one UPS module failing, the overall system will continue to operate normally, but with one less module of capacity. The failed module will be fully disconnected and will not impact the operating modules. DPA enables further fault tolerance: Each module contains all the hardware and software required for full system operation, creating complete redundancy within the unit. Each UPS module has its own independent static bypass, rectifier, inverter, logic control, control panel and battery charger. With all the critical components duplicated and distributed between individual units, potential single points of failure are eliminated. Sized to fit your needs Designers often over-specify UPS systems to take account of future demand growth. With the Conceptpower DPA, modules can simply be added in parallel to increase the system s total capacity. Rack-mounted configurations can be right-sized by inserting or removing online-swappable modules while the systems remain online, enabling power to be added as requirements grow without any footprint penalty. 5 5 Efficient service concept True, online-swap modularity enables the safer removal and/or insertion of Conceptpower DPA modules without risk to the critical load and without the need to power down or transfer to raw mains supply. This unique feature directly addresses today s requirement for continuous uptime. The ability to online-swap modules in a Conceptpower DPA system significantly reduces its mean time to repair (MTTR) and simplifies system upgrades. The modular approach pays off too when it comes to serviceability and availability online-swapping of modules means you don t have to switch off or switch to bypass during replacements, so there is no downtime in a redundant configuration. Total vertical and horizontal scalability The Conceptpower DPA 500 and Conceptpower DPA 120 scalability means that there is no need to over-specify the original configuration as power modules can simply be added, as needed, in the future. Conceptpower DPA 500 This online-swap technology, along with significant reductions in repair time, can also achieve so-called six nines availability ( percent) highly desirable for data centers in pursuit of zero downtime. Not only does this improve availability but it also reduces cost as service engineers spend less time onsite and any risks of data or production loss are minimized. Also, inventory levels of specialist spare parts are reduced. Installation and service is easy too: The straightforward concept of the Conceptpower DPA simplifies every step of the deployment process, from planning, through installation and commissioning to full use. Flexible set-up and fast maintenance means lower operating and maintenance costs. The UPS is serviceable by front access only. The Conceptpower DPA 500 delivers power protection from 100 to 500kW (one to five modules) in a single cabinet frame. Cabinets can operate in a parallel configuration to build a system of up to 3MW. Horizontal scalability is also given, with up to six frames in parallel, to increase total power up to 3MW. 5x6x100kW=3MW Conceptpower DPA 120 6x5x20kW=600kW The Conceptpower DPA 120 delivers power protection from 20kW to 600kW at 208V (one to six modules) in a single cabinet frame. The Conceptpower DPA 500 UPS was designed for datacenters and other high power applications that require redundant configurations (for example N+1, 2 (N+1), etc.). Adding redundancy for increased availability comes easy with the advanced scalability within the Conceptpower DPA 500 UPS. 9 9 Engineered to protect critical loads The SuperSwitch 4 is the cornerstone of redundant power for a wide range of applications including data centers, hospitals, semiconductor manufacturing and other installations where continuous power is critical to a facility s mission. Engineered to protect critical loads in both commercial and industrial environments, these switches can transfer power between any two sources of power, including any combination of utility, UPS and generators. Primary switching architecture Static Transfer Switches (STSs) are central components in data center power system configurations. The typical system design incorporates two separate uninterruptible power supplies (UPSs), Source 1 and Source 2 feeding the preferred and alternate sources of the STS. These devices are the bridge between the power sources UPSs and the power distribution units (PDUs) where a transformer is needed to typically switch the 480V side (primary) to the 208V side (secondary). The primary side switching (480V) is the most common and cost effective architecture to the customer in terms of smaller footprint and lower costs because only one transformer is needed. The alternative architecture would be to switch the secondary which would require each source to have its own fully rated transformer (208V). Data center: Mission critical facilities used to house computer, network, data storage, telecommunications, and other vital systems that require constant power with no interruptions. Dynamic inrush restraint The application of static transfer switches on the primary side of large transformers can present a design challenge because of possible large inrush currents during emergency transfers. The optional dynamic inrush restraint (DIR) feature of the SuperSwitch 3 eliminates this concern. Based on initial conditions at the time of transfer, the SuperSwitch 3 can dynamically modify its standard transfer algorithm to limit inrush current, minimize stress on the distribution system and ensure continuity of power to the load. Cyberex waveform capture feature uses digital signal processing techniques to simultaneously sample both source voltage and current waveforms. The waveform data is collected every 0.1 Milliseconds as 12 bit samples to provide an extremely high level of detail. The waveform capture feature stores up to 25 waveforms for both transfer and non-transfer events. Each capture contains a total of 6 cycles; 3 cycles prior to the event and 3 cycles after the event. The waveforms can be imported into a PC based spreadsheet tool for additional viewing and analysis. Software-guided breaker bypass Human error is one of the main causes of dropped loads during routine breaker bypass operations. Cyberex software guided breaker bypass feature prompts the operator through the breaker bypass procedure with simple graphical and written instructions and indicator lights to ensure each operation is completed and performed error-free in the correct sequence. Data and alarm management The SuperSwitch 3 maintains an event log of the 2,500 precision time and date-stamped events that can be viewed locally or exported for further analysis. Remote access The current status of the SuperSwitch 3 is available remotely via modbus RTU or TCP/IP. Additionally all operational parameters including the event log can be viewed from a network using the SuperSwitch 3 s web server. 13 13 Remote power distribution RPP and HPP Today s data centers require the highest level of reliability and performance. The Cyberex RPP provides two tiers of products providing the flexibility to expand your data center distribution capabilities. Fed from your existing PDU, the RPP readily provides up to (4) 42 pole panelboards, (4) main breakers all fed from up to (4) sources. The RPP is available with advanced branch circuit management that communicates valuable information to your building management system (bms) or to a remote webserver display unit. HPP Our traditional RPP is sized to fit over a standard 2 foot square raised floor tile and serves loads at 208/120V. Traditional design offers performance and flexibility. The circuit management system provides accurate load management information and alerts you of potential problems before they affect your operation. User configurable set points allow you to know when each circuit is approaching a load threshold that could interrupt power to that device. This notification allows your staff to proactively maintain your critical operation. Designed for performance, flexibility and reliability Factory integrated as an optional feature to your PDU or RPP; the circuit management system can be used for communicating valuable information to your central management system or to a local or remote display panel. The circuit management actively monitors the load current of each of your circuits and reports this information to you for cost allocation or load protection management. The circuit management system can be field maintained or upgraded to allow the addition or replacement of individual sensors. Others offer only a fixed component system carried on a PCB that must be abandoned within your panels and bypassed with a cumbersome hardware configuration when upgraded or repaired.
