3 1 Introduction to Hyper Historian This document s focus is to list the new features for Hyper Historian v10.5 from ICONICS, Inc. Features are listed within subcategories for simplicity and this document represents features integrated since the initial release of 10.0 and the subsequent service pack. For informational purposes internal work item tracking numbers have been included in the document where applicable. Below is a brief introduction to ICONICS Hyper Historian. Hyper Historian Overview High-Speed, Reliable & Robust Plant Historian Welcome to ICONICS Hyper Historian, a powerful, 64-bit, high performance plant historian. Hyper Historian was designed for the most mission critical applications demanding the highest level of availability, providing unparalleled performance with very efficient use of computer resources. Hyper Historian utilizes a high compression, advanced, Swinging Door algorithm and takes advantage of 64-bit hardware and software architectures, allowing it to access more CPU power and memory than traditional 32-bit-based historians and providing highest performance possible. Key features include: OPC-UA and OPC-HDA Compliance Industry-standard Data Connectivity (SNMP, BACnet) Optimistic Concurrent Multi-user Configuration Web-based Configuration and Administration Unattended Data Archiving and Backup 2D and 3D Real-time Charts Real-time and Historical Data Replay Multiple Remote Data Collectors Store and Forward Technology Integration with ICONICS BizViz Solutions o Reporting and Data Bridging o Dashboards and Portals Diagnostic and Data Tracing with NET Event Logs Integrated Redundancy Hyper Historian can use Swinging Door data compression for storing huge volumes of quickly changing data, but even without the Swinging Door compression enabled it is capable of logging 50,000 or more data events per second on reference hardware for real-time, enterprise-wide information. Hyper Historian also has robust, built-in software redundancy for mission critical applications that require uninterrupted access and collection of data. Automatic Store and Forward technology ensure data integrity, in the event of system upset or communications disruption. Hyper Historian uses advanced data integration, providing unsurpassed connectivity to any device via OPC-DA, OPC-UA, OPC-HDA, OPC XML, SNMP, BACnet or database values. Users can easily collect information from multiple plants, facilities or throughout the enterprise. Data sources such as PLCs, I/O devices, HMI applications and network devices can be collected and stored for reporting and analysis. Hyper Historian includes an industry standard SQL Query interface, enabling tight integration with Microsoft SQL-compatible database such as Microsoft SQL Server 2005/2008. 4 unique, automated archiving feature that allows for routine or triggered scheduling of data archives, freeing up disk space and backing up files for long term storage and/or retrieval. The Workbench inside Hyper Historian features a thin client, optimistic concurrent design, acting as the central configuration environment and operator interface. The runtime operational interface allows for complete visualization of real-time and historical data with 2D and 3D charts. The Workbench s advanced configuration console performs complete service management and has integrated layout/project management and remote pack-and-go deployment capabilities. From the Workbench, operators can add fully customizable 3D trends and charts. Users can choose from a wide library of 3D charts such as X vs. Y, logarithmic, bar graph, strip chart recorder, circular and more, to build clear and accurate representations of real-time and historical data. Intuitive ribbons and galleries help to customize trends by adding color, gradients, smooth animation, translucency/glass effects, antialiasing and more, making data analysis clear and straightforward. Users can drag and drop sources during runtime and view multiple trends simultaneously. Users can trend production numbers against a target. Data can also be exported in tabular formats and it is possible to enter operator comments, as well as manage lab data and audit trails in accordance with 21 CFR Part 11 policies. Hyper Historian can also connect with the entire ICONICS BizViz Manufacturing Intelligence/Business Visualization suite, to create best-in-class reporting, analysis, portal or data bridging applications. 5 2 Hyper Historian General Enhancements Created a standalone installation for the Hyper Historian. [8836,9294] Enhanced Help documentation to aid users in answering common questions and guide development. Designed for Windows 7 Compatibility and Windows Server 2008 R2 to take advantage of the newest Microsoft Operating Systems. Hyper Historian GenDemo has been enhanced with new examples and displays to aid users in getting up to speed on all that the Hyper Historian has to offer. Examples include demos from many different market segments and Learning Center displays are a quick reference on how to unleash the visualization power of GENESIS64. NOTE: Requires GENESIS64 to be installed. Enhanced the Hyper Historian Server to expose its information via an OPC UA interface. [8335] Improved the sample TrendWorX64 Viewer displays that are installed as part of Hyper Historian. [6403] Enhanced installation logic that allows for SQL Server discovery and prompts user to install SQL Server 2008 Express Edition if no existing SQL Servers are available. Please refer to the application note titled ICONICS - Installing SQL Server 2008 Express for more information. Implemented support to brand label (OEM) the Hyper Historian. [6351] Enhanced error reporting into ICONICS GenEvent Server. [8408] Added additional TraceWorX support for various Hyper Historian modules, including the Historical Data Access interface (HyperHistorianHDA.exe). [7310,8720] Simplified Hyper Historian Redundancy configuration and overall setup process. [6873] Enhanced the Logging Server Storage Path setting to be configurable on a per Logger basis instead of globally. [5088] Added an option to disable all historical data editing, including editing via the OPC HDA interface. [5001,5002,5322,8675] Integrated HDA-like browse functionality into the Hyper Historian Logger. [6772] Enhanced the Logger to automatically determine appropriate values for several advanced settings, including the cache size, shadow flush time, cache index blocks, cache data blocks, cache memory only index blocks and cache memory only data blocks to simplify configuration. [3948,5009] Added support to multi-select tags in the browser for faster configuration. [4227,4858] Added intelligence to the Hyper Historian Configurator to verify the integrity of the Conditional Logging settings, for example, to ensure that the Pre-Condition Period is shorter than the persistent period s memory storage time. [4860] Introduced a TrendWorX32 to Hyper Historian migration utility to make it easy for users to upgrade from TrendWorX32. This utility includes a summary dialog to report detailed information about the success or failure of the migration process. [7521,8572,8575] Enhanced Hyper Historian to import deadband ranges from the OPC DA server, and also implemented support to propagate those ranges to the OPC UA HDA interface so that they can be used for automatic scaling by the TrendWorX64 Viewer. [4861] Improved the wording on the security denied error message when a user has insufficient permissions to start the Hyper Historian service from the Workbench. [6544] Reorganized the configuration of Aggregates by moving them into a new tab within the Tag configuration dialog. [6702,8822] Added a Display Name field to all data collection objects to increase the userfriendliness of how the items are displayed in the Workbench. [8743] Added the ability to disable data logging via a checkbox on all data items. [8653] Moved the Minimum Storage Time setting from the archiving section to the file storage information section in the Logger configuration dialog. [8540] Added support for HHD file types in Archive Files Management. [7106] Improved the performance of the tag multiplication feature and copy/paste of large numbers of tags, to speed up the configuration process. [4278] Improved the performance and overall usability of the Workbench while attaching archive files to the Hyper Historian. [6552] Added a new MonitorWorX Viewer to the Workbench as a simple display of licensing and redundancy information. Improved usability for dealing with multiple objects in the Workbench tree control such as faster multiplication of items within Hyper Historian. 7 folder. New configuration databases are now set to grow by MB instead of percentage by default, for faster configuration. Enhanced user feedback messages in order to avoid losses in configuration and development time. Added a number of new cosmetic enhancements that include new large icon support in the application ribbon tab optimized for small or touchscreen displays, new application list for faster access to the various modules and many new icons to help users identify functionality quickly and accurately. Implemented Pack & Go for easy product deployment and backup of saved configurations. Pack & Go supports the packing of individual modules at the user s discretion and an option to make all databases active after the unpack action is completed. A command line interface is also supported for greater control over the Pack & Go functionality. Implemented a Batch editor dialog for quick configuration into Hyper Historian. Workbench now utilizes a Runtime Mode and allows users to switch between Configuration and Runtime quickly. Runtime mode is optimized for viewing data and displays. A Microsoft-style Runtime Ribbon is used throughout the Workbench for user familiarity and easy access to tools and settings. Implemented an enhanced asynchronous server side search for use within Runtime Mode. The configuration of OPC Classic and OPC UA Servers has been simplified for quick deployment. 8 4 Hyper Historian Logger Greatly improved the stability and performance of the Hyper Historian Logger. [7558] Improved the throughput and performance of the Logger through better utilization of multi-processors. [5015] Added support to expose Hyper Historian logged data via OPC HDA (Historical Data Access) interface. This allows Hyper Historian users to replay their data within the ICONICS TrendWorX32 Viewer as well. [4709,5858,6132,6771,8581] Improved the handling of out-of-synch data sources to be more forgiving of PLCs and OPC Servers whose clocks have drifted (or whose clocks are not synchronized). [5007] Extended the Hyper Historian s statistics collection and its ability to provide statistical reports on its internal (collecting and logging) activities. [5012] Implemented a disk space monitoring mechanism that sends GenEvent messages when the hard drive is running low on available free space. [9093] Enhanced the aggregate tags support by implementing new persistent aggregates. [6765] Improved the Archiving support by providing total file size monitoring at a directory level. [8657] Enhanced the Archiving support by taking the current log file s size into consideration as well. [8656] Improved the replay performance Hyper Historian logged values by implementing a "priority queue". [8660] Implemented support for processing Time triggers that are sent in advance of the actual event. [9530] Added support to temporarily store the last known value even if it is a non-essential sample according to the Swinging Door algorithm, so that the Trend Viewer can show a realistic slope for signals that are ramping up or down. 9 5 Hyper Historian Collector Implemented support for running the Hyper Historian Collector on 32-bit operating systems. [4708,8527,9672] Created a standalone installation for the Hyper Historian Collector. [5355,8528] Added support for Forced Interval Logging to consistently get updates from tags even if their values are not changing at all (or changing very slowly). [7123,8677] Moved the option to run the Swinging Door Algorithm to the Collector level instead of the Logger level. [5019] Enhanced Collector calculations and data collection triggering. 10 6 Hyper Historian Redundancy Improved the overall reliability of Hyper Historian core redundancy management. [9808] Improved the logic within Hyper Historian s redundant server state machine. [8965] Simplified Hyper Historian Redundancy configuration and overall setup process. [6873,9272, 9725,9902] Enhanced the MonitorWorX integration with status information and control over Hyper Historian redundancy switching. [4997] GENESIS64 now offers complete support for OPC DA, HDA, and A/E redundancy. GENESIS64 now offers complete support for OPC UA, UA HDA, and UA A/E redundancy. Implemented GENESIS64 Client-Server Redundancy. Added configurable options such as automatic redundant switchover and system tray icon notifications. 11 7 Hyper Historian SQL Query Engine Powerful SQL Query Interface includes support for: SELECT INSERT UPDATE TOP Added support for doing INSERTs and UPDATEs via the SQL Query Engine. [9916] Enhanced the SQL Query Engine to communicate to the Hyper Historian using OPC UA, and to allow users to specify to which Hyper Historian they d like to communicate using a connection dialog invoked from the provider. [6773] Enhanced the SQL Query Engine to allow users to query by the logical Logging Group name (such as Sample Logging Group ) rather than requiring the underlying name such as [ HHLoggingGroup_2_dyn]. [5090] Enhanced the SQL Query Engine to allow users to utilize a more user-friendly tag naming convention and syntax, so that when you want to retrieve data from the Hyper Historian the following syntax can be used: SELECT * FROM "Logging Group". 12 8 TrendWorX64 Viewer Enhanced Hyper Historian to import deadband ranges from the OPC DA server, and also implemented support to propagate those ranges to the OPC UA HDA interface so that they can be used for automatic scaling by the TrendWorX64 Viewer. [4861] The TrendWorX64 Viewer now offers Multi-touch Integration to take advantage of the newest Microsoft OS technology. The TrendWorX64 Viewer now has an option to apply a time offset to shift the visible trend period. This offers greater visualization and customization to the user. The TrendWorX64 Viewer has been upgraded significantly to include new features such as new XY and XYZ plots for viewing in two or three dimensions, optional flat lines to represent bad or missing data as well as performance optimization to keep it running smoothly. The TrendWorX64 Viewer has new "Auto Tooltips" with data values on trends for quick and accurate readings. The TrendWorX64 Viewer has enhanced communication for Silverlight to support HDA. New TrendWorX64 Viewer Statistics and Runtime Data Export capabilities for further data analysis. TrendWorX64 now offers new ways to visualize your data outside of the Hyper Historian. There is new support for CSV format data export, the ability to export Pen Data or Statistics and options for printing parts of the TrendWorX64 Viewer to narrow in on important sections. To aid the speed of development and data analysis there are now predefined Time Shift intervals the user can select from. TrendWorX64 Viewer now comes standard with updated Pen Limits allowing the display of pen limit lines in charts. Pen Markers can now be hidden and a new configuration tool allows the size and style of pen plot markers to be customized easily. The TrendWorX64 Viewer pens have enhanced functionality that allow multiple pens to be added simultaneously. In addition, Ideal Pens can be distinctly marked and new Legend fields that allow Real-Time Pen Statistics and Ranges that follow selected pens. The TrendWorX64 Viewer Legend has been expanded by adding more columns for greater user customization. The TrendWorX64 Viewer API and Documentation has significant improvements including exposing pen customizations to the API. ICONICS 2010 What s New in Hyper Historian V

13 9 FrameWorX64 New Software licensing which is an alternative to a licensing with hardware keys (dongles). There is new Silverlight/WCF communication that allows the FrameWorX Server to communicate with the Silverlight client applications (such as TrendWorX64 Viewer) running cross platforms and cross browsers. The communication includes a support for DA data, OPC Alarms, Global Aliasing, Language Aliasing, Historical Data, Security and Licensing. FrameWorX64 has been enhanced with an update of OPC UA communication to the latest OPC UA SDK provided officially by the OPC Foundation. Performance Improvements in FrameWorX64 significantly decrease the process usage and memory foot print and increase the throughput. A new Plug-in mechanism for FrameWorX64 Server permits 3rd party custom data plug-ins (in principle similar to GenBroker plug-ins for those familiar with GENESIS32). New MonitorWorX collects informative data from Hyper Historian and allows users to view them in the MonitorWorX Viewer. FrameWorX64 has been optimized for speed regarding XML DA data. FrameWorX64 now offers full support for OPC DA, HDA and AE Redundancy. Filters were added to TraceWorX to facilitate viewing for 32-bit or 64-bit applications. Users can now show application specific logs or all logs. The Mesh Browser has been updated with various styles that distinguish the different reference types. New features also allow a user to drag objects and pin them, utilize a legend for greater user feedback and auto-locking nodes for enhanced usability. ICONICS 2010 What s New in Hyper Historian V

14 10 MonitorWorX There is now a new MonitorWorX Viewer that gives complete control over the redundant servers. The new MonitorWorX Viewer GUI is completely customizable. It s also possible to specify custom OPC UA redundant servers and visualize them in the tree structure. MonitorWorX now supports OPC UA Redundancy and classic redundancy. MonitorWorX now supports custom servers and notification areas. The MonitorWorX Viewer now gives more information about status of servers (redundant ones as well) to provide the user with a greater capability to visualize nodes. 15 11 Security ICONICS now offers enhanced Workbench Security in general as well as enhanced security in the Hyper Historian and TrendWorX64 Viewer Workbench Providers. There is new support for a remote Security database and support for security in Silverlight components. Added support to customize the Security background picture as well as other new features for greater customization. The locked Login/Logout screen for GraphWorX64 can now be customized to fit with a corporate look and feel and give customized information to the operator. Added support and greater functionality for synchronization and replication of Security databases. Better user and operator feedback has been implemented to alert users when an option is unavailable due to the current Security level. ICONICS 2010 What s New in Hyper Historian V

16 12 Licensing New Software Licensing is now available as an added option for licensing to run alongside or instead of a USB hardware key. New Software Licensing Utility allows users to easily activate a new license, kill a current license or start an Emergency License within the same dialog. There is now added support for licensing in Silverlight components. New capability has been added to integrate GENESIS32 and BizViz licenses on the same keys as Hyper Historian and GENESIS64.
