Chapter 2: Architecture SAP HANA is an SAP Fiori Launchpad site that provides you with a single point of access to a range of web-based applications for the online administration of SAP HANA. The Hitachi Server Adapter for the SAP HANA Cockpit runs as a web application and access SAP HANA through a web browser. This adapter provides registration, monitoring, and additional reports for adapter management: Generates the following reports for the Storage: Overview LUN Performance Port Performance Replication Storage Snapshot History Host Group Storage Pool Parity Group CLPR Schedule Allows users to register and monitor Hitachi storage subsystems. Allows users to create and manage HANA storage snapshots by using Hitachi Thin Image (HTI). Allows users to create and manage replication by using ShadowImage and Hitachi Thin Image. The adapter can be configured in any of three ways, which are listed below. (1) Single HANA Instance Use this adapter to manage only one HANA instance on your environment. To do so, install the adapter and deploy the delivery unit to the specified HANA instance. Chapter 2: Architecture Hitachi Storage Adapter for the SAP HANA Cockpit User's Guide 14

(2) Multiple HANA Instances To manage multiple HANA instances with one adapter installation, deploy the delivery unit to any of the HANA instances, and then remotely manage multiple HANA instances. The delivery unit should be imported to one HANA instance on your environment. However, importing the delivery unit to every HANA instance is not necessary. The adapter is the central management mode in this scenario. In other words, all HANA instances that import the delivery unit and share the adapter web service share the same data. It can be used for high availability purpose. Chapter 2: Architecture Hitachi Storage Adapter for the SAP HANA Cockpit User's Guide 15

For example, if one HANA instance is down on your environment, you can still use another HANA instance with this adapter for management operation. Chapter 2: Architecture Hitachi Storage Adapter for the SAP HANA Cockpit User's Guide 16

(3) Multiple HANA Instances with SAP HANA Express The delivery unit also can be imported in the SAP HANA 2.0 express edition. You may use SAP HANA 2.0 express edition only to manage multiple HANA instances on your environment. Chapter 2: Architecture Hitachi Storage Adapter for the SAP HANA Cockpit User's Guide 17

Creating a HANA Storage Snapshot with Hitachi Thin Image Name Type Description Storage Serial Number String Serial number of the Hitachi storage Storage Location (IP) String IP of the Hitachi storage Storage User Name String User name for accessing the Hitachi storage Storage Password String Password for accessing the Hitachi storage Creating a HANA Storage Snapshot with Hitachi Thin Image This feature allows you to create a HANA storage snapshot using Hitachi Thin Image. With this feature, you may either create the HANA storage snapshot instantly or schedule a specified date/time for automation of the HANA storage snapshot. You can also choose to use HTI or floating device when you create the HANA storage snapshot. Before you begin Create a Hitachi Thin Image (HTI) pool on your Hitachi storage system, before using this feature. A HANA storage snapshot is an option of a database backup. It includes all the data that is required to recover the database to a consistent state. A HANA storage snapshot captures the content of the SAP HANA data area at a particular point in time. Strongly recommended that you create a full file system backup of your HANA instance before you create any HANA storage snapshot. SAP does not provide an integrity check for an HANA storage snapshot. Instead, SAP recommends that you combine storage snapshots with traditional data backups. Note: SAP does not support storage snapshots with SAP HANA if the data resides in multitenant database containers. Use this feature only with SAP HANA single-database containers. See Create a Storage Snapshot (SAP HANA Studio) for details. Hitachi Thin Image has two options: HTI and floating device. This adapter supports both of them for creating a HANA storage snapshot. They have the following differences. 1. Floating device does not have a V-VOL ID or an LUN name. Therefore, it cannot be mapped to any host group. 2. Due to the reduction of internal resources of storage (for example, V- VOL ID), the speed of floating device is faster. 3. Floating device is only available on VSP G/Fx00 and G/F1000 series. Chapter 4: Operations Hitachi Storage Adapter for the SAP HANA Cockpit User's Guide 39

Creating a HANA Storage Snapshot with Hitachi Thin Image Input Parameters Name HTI Pool LUNs HTI pool for the storage snapshot Description Selected LUNs for the storage snapshot. Initially, all LUNs in the data volume are selected by default. Note: This operation may take a while. However, SAP HANA by default allows 300 seconds as the maximum session timeout period. If you receive a timeout error, change the session timeout. See Changing the Session Timeout (on page 94). Procedure 1. Select the type of the task. You may either select Execute Now to create the HANA storage snapshot instantly or select Recurring to create a schedule that automatically and recurrently creates the HANA storage snapshot according to the schedule. If you select to create it instantly, then go directly to step Define the recurring schedule. Provide a unique schedule name. Select the recurring time of the schedule. You can select a daily, weekly, or monthly schedule and define the start time. The time that you set is relative to the time zone that is set on the adapter management server that runs the task. After the schedule is created successfully, the following image appears (dailynoon is an example of a schedule name). To check the graph, select any of the historic storage layout from the past 30 days, and then click Ok. This feature allows you to monitor and compare the changes of storage configuration. For example, if you want to troubleshoot a problem that is caused by recent changes with the Hitachi storage on your HANA environment, you can check the Storage Layout History Report and compare the changes between now and the previous week. Standalone GUI A standalone web GUI has been provided for the storage related operations when the HANA system is offline. It can connect to the HANA management web service and execute the storage related operations. This standalone GUI application supports the following operations: split pairs by snapshot group or consistency group resync pairs by snapshot group or consistency group revert pairs by snapshot group or consistency group To use this standalone GUI, follow the procedure bellow: Procedure 1. Open a browser. 2. Go to 3. Log in to the web GUI. Default username/password: Admin/Hitachi1 Chapter 5: Reporting Hitachi Storage Adapter for the SAP HANA Cockpit User's Guide 91

Standalone GUI 4. Select the HANA instance that you want to run this operation (for example, Split, Resync, and Revert). Click Step Select the operation (for example, Split, Resync, and Revert). Also, you may click Update Storage Cache to get up-to-date storage information. 6. Select the group type (for example, Snapshot Group or Consistency Group), and then select the specified group from the dropdown list. Click Step The web GUI lists all pairs of the selected group for review. After reviewing all details, click Confirm to start the operation. Note: If the replication pair type is HTI, then it is recommended to go with the snapshot group first. When using the consistency group mode, note that APIs that this adapter uses may not return valid CTG IDs in some cases. It is highly recommended to check the PVL, P-VOL name, and MU ID to select the pair rather than using the CTG ID. The standalone GUI executes the operation and then displays the result if it is successfully completed. Chapter 5: Reporting Hitachi Storage Adapter for the SAP HANA Cockpit User's Guide 92

Chapter 6: Logging, Troubleshooting, and Error Messages Logging Find log files in this location: /opt/hitachi/hihana/logs The adapter supports the following logging levels: CRITICAL (or FATAL) ERROR WARNING INFO DEBUG The default logging level is INFO. You can change the logging level in the config.py file in the installation folder as shown below: LOGLEVEL = 'DEBUG' Log Generation and Rotation Multiple log generation and rotation of the adapter log files create multiple log files. The active log filename is hihana.log. The log generation and rotation of the adapter log files allow you to do the following: Rotate the current or active log file by incrementing the log file name, appending consecutive numbers that start from zero to a user-specified limit or a system default. Specify a maximum log file size in config.py by editing the [HIHANA_LOG_SIZE_MB] key. If the value of the log file size is greater than the specified [HIHANA_LOG_SIZE_MB] value, then the log file is automatically rotated. The default value of [HIHANA_LOG_SIZE_MB] is 50. Specify a maximum number of backup log files in config.py by editing the [HIHANA_LOG_BACKUP_COUNT] key. The default value is 10. The default log level is INFO. Following is a sample of normal log output: [22413:{ }] [ :11:46,321] [hihana] [INFO] [hostservers.py] [get_serverfrus][enter] [22413:{ }] [ :11:46,322] [hihana] [INFO] [hostservers.py] [get_serverfrus][hostname:saphanas ] Chapter 6: Logging, Troubleshooting, and Error Messages Hitachi Storage Adapter for the SAP HANA Cockpit User's Guide 93

Then change both parameters to a higher number of seconds 1800 or more. 5. Modify the icm/server_port parameter in the profile under the webdispatcher.ini section by changing the value of PROCTIMEOUT to 1800 or more if necessary. If you are using http to access SAP HANA, you only need to change icm/server_port_0. If you are also using https, you need to change icm/ server_port_1 as well. Note: Skip this step, if you use SAP HANA2.0 SPS2 which doesn't have webdispatcher.ini. Chapter 6: Logging, Troubleshooting, and Error Messages Hitachi Storage Adapter for the SAP HANA Cockpit User's Guide 95

Cleaning the Cache When the Delivery Unit Fails to Import Cleaning the Cache When the Delivery Unit Fails to Import Sometimes, the delivery unit fails to import to SAP HANA when you are using SAP HANA Application Lifecycle Management with your browser. To solve this problem, clean the cache of your browser, and try again. Restarting the Web Service to Solve an Error Message When registering a HANA instance, host, or storage, you may see the following error message: Error occurred while getting the host storage. 'hihanaredbeatstoragedatacollection'. To fix this, follow the procedure below. Procedure 1. Log in to the virtual appliance by using SSH with the root account. Default username/password: root/hitachi1 2. Enter service puma restart. 3. Wait 30 seconds. 4. Enter service supervisored restart. Chapter 6: Logging, Troubleshooting, and Error Messages Hitachi Storage Adapter for the SAP HANA Cockpit User's Guide 96

Troubleshooting Diagnostic Steps Troubleshooting Diagnostic Steps Use the flowchart below followed by the Troubleshooting tips. Troubleshooting #1: Investigate the SAP HANA environment. If SAP HANA cannot be reached or is experiencing performance problems, open the Administration editor in diagnosis mode to resolve this issue by following the SAP HANA procedure. See helpdata/en/95/fc8adf6c5a46e7bc3a0a29b63ec6bb/content.htm) Troubleshooting #2: Investigate the adapter logs. Review the log file (hihana.log) under the logs subfolder of the installation folder. Study the recommended action for resolving the issue from the error message list by checking the error message ID. When All Troubleshooting Recommendations Have Been Exhausted If you could not solve the problem using the above troubleshooting recommendations, run the collect_hihana_info.sh script to create a tar archive file containing pertinent information to assist Hitachi Vantara engineers in resolving the issue. To execute collect_hihana_info.sh, run the following command: /opt/hitachi/ hihana/collect_hihana_info.sh.
