1 Unit Assessment Guide Unit Details Unit code Unit name Unit purpose/application ICTWEB425 Apply structured query language to extract and manipulate data This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to produce structured query language (SQL) statements to work with server-side scripts, enabling web designers to interact with web server databases. It applies to individuals who are employed as web designers responsible for creating server-side interaction with dynamic web pages, using SQL as a means of communicating with the database. 2 Assessment Part A Portfolio Complete all of the following tasks in relation to the supplied scenario, submit all of the completed tasks together in a single zip file. TASK 1 IDENTIFY REQUIREMENTS Analyse the database requirements as per the scenario and create: 1. A physical Entity Relationship Diagram (ERD) of the intended database, including the following: a. Identify the tables that hold this information b. Identify the primary keys in these tables c. Identify the relationships between these tables, including foreign keys d. Identify the fields and their data-types e. Crows-foot notation showing cardinality f. Uses consistent naming rules and styles. 2. A Data Dictionary of the intended database, including the following: a. Includes all the entities and attributes listed in your ERD. b. Includes a description of each attribute. c. Details the type and/or size of each attribute. d. An example of validation and/or sample data for each attribute. e. Includes any constraints for each attribute. f. Clearly shows primary and foreign keys. Your documents should be neatly formatted and professionally presented with a title and the name of the database, submitted in PDF format. TASK 2 CREATE AND MANIPULATE A DATABASE Using SQL statements, create a prototype relational database as specified in your ERD from Task 1. Capture screenshots as you go, using the provided template document to record the following: 1. Database creation. 2. Creation of each table with its columns and their datatypes and any constraints. 3. Insertion of sample data for each table. This database should be produced exactly as per your documentation from Task 1 and should have the following: Suitably named database and tables. All the table structures complete with appropriate data-types for fields. All relevant constraints assigned such as (but not limited to) primary and foreign keys. Populated tables ready for queries. 3 TASK 3 TEST WITH SAMPLE DATA Demonstrate the following queries by capturing a screenshot of both your SQL instruction & the results produced when it is successfully run, use the template provided. 1. Retrieve all the data from a single table 2. Retrieve data from specific columns in a single table 3. Use 'ORDER BY' to sort query output 4. Restrict the number of rows retrieved, by placing criteria in the 'WHERE' clause 5. Restrict the number of rows retrieved, by placing specific criteria in the SELECT statement 6. Use Boolean operators with the correct precedence 7. Use criteria in the 'WHERE' clause to: a. check for a range of values b. select values from a list c. check for values that match a pattern 8. Use SQL syntax to suppress duplicate values from query results 9. Take action to exclude null values from a query result 10. Use arithmetical operators with the correct precedence 11. Use string functions, and operators, to obtain the required query output 12. Use mathematical functions to obtain the required output 13. Use date functions to obtain the required output 14. Use SQL aggregate functions to obtain the required output 15. Use 'group by' to aggregate data by multiple columns 16. Sort aggregated data in the query output 17. Filter aggregated data using the 'having' clause 18. Employ the inner join syntax, to retrieve data from two or more tables 19. Use 'left outer', 'right outer' and 'full outer' syntax, to join tables in the select statement 20. Describe the principles of "combining and/or condition" in SQL statements and Boolean operators: IN and BETWEEN conditional operators mathematical operators table joins (relationships). 5 Marking criteria You must meet the following criteria in order to successfully complete this assessment event. Marking Criteria Part 1 Complete all tasks correctly and evidence of the ability to: identify structured query language (SQL) requirements create the databases and tables generate queries for one or more tables, to provide the required data add, modify and delete records from the database tables test and verify SQL statements. Part 2 Must provide a clear response to each question and sub-point in 100 words or less.
