5 An introduction to LATEX Introduction L A TEX is a typesetting language developed by Leslie B. Lamport in the early 1980s. L A TEX essentially consists of a collection of TEX macros and a program to process L A TEX documents. TEX was developed by Donald Knuth in the late 1970s. L A TEX comes for free and is easy to install.
