If it is $189 for all of the copies that would be great, but $189 per copy would get expensive quickly. This software is not open source - I m not sure if we need the program itself to be open source for the video logging but if we chose this and used the vernier sensors then it wouldn t be really open source at all. (At this point I realized Zach has already done a good job summarizing all of this stuff about Logger Pro) Videopoint and Videopoint: PhysicsFundamentals VideoPoint is a cross-platform video analysis software that allows you to gather position vs. time data for one or more objects on each frame of a QuickTime movie. This data can be plotted, viewed in a table, copied to other programs (such as Excel) for further analysis or modeled using basic equations or fit to a polynomial. VideoPoint's strength is in the collection of this data; combinations of the locations of points can be used to create other measurements such as Center of Mass locations and Distance measurements. Pros Both of these programs would do what we are trying to achieve. Software can be used with any video camera that has a firewire port.

Consumer level cameras come in two flavors, MiniDV and Digital8 (Sony only). Both formats will work. The digital camera must have an IEEE1394 interface. This is commonly known as FireWire or i.link.
