1 Avaya Solution & Interoperability Test Lab Application Notes for Configuring the Mutare Software Message Rescue Solution with Avaya Modular Messaging - Issue 1.0 Abstract These Application Notes describe a sample configuration for the Mutare Software Message Rescue solution with Avaya Modular Messaging. Muture Software Message Rescue is a backup and disaster recovery application for the Avaya Modular Messaging voic system. The application monitors and copies messages and greetings in real time from Avaya Modular Messaging to any storage device. Information in these Application Notes has been obtained through DevConnect compliance testing and additional technical discussions. Testing was conducted via the DevConnect Program at the Avaya Solution and Interoperability Test Lab. 1 of 19

2 1. Introduction Muture Software Message Rescue is a backup and disaster recovery application for the Avaya Modular Messaging voic system. The application monitors and copies messages and greetings in real time from Avaya Modular Messaging to any storage device on the LAN or in the cloud. In the event of a main server outage, and until service is restored, users can access their backed-up messages from a secure website. These Application Notes describe a sample configuration for the Mutare Software Message Rescue solution with Avaya Modular Messaging. Compliance testing emphasis was placed on validating the Mutare Software Message Rescue solution s capability of backing up and restoring voic messages as well as retrieving Voic messages via the Mutare Software Message Rescue webpage when Avaya Modular Messaging is not available Interoperability Compliance Testing This document describes the interoperability compliance testing for the Mutare Software Message Rescue solution with Avaya Modular Messaging. Compliance testing included the following: Installation of Mutare Software Message Rescue software Backups Restores Listen to Voic messages via the Mutare Software Message Rescue webpage Voic messages via the Mutare Software Message Rescue webpage Serviceability 1.2. Reference Configuration The configuration in Figure 1 shows an Avaya Telephony Infrastructure integrating a Mutare Software Message Rescue solution. 2 of 19

Corporate Headquarters The configuration in Figure 1 shows an Avaya Telephony Infrastructure consisting of Avaya Aura Communication Manager, Avaya Aura SIP Enabled Services and Avaya Modular Messaging integrating a Mutare Software Message Rescue solution. Equipment and Software Validated The following equipment and software were used for the sample configuration provided: Equipment Avaya PBX Products Avaya S8300 Server running Avaya Aura Communication Manager Avaya G450 Media Gateway (Corporate Site) MGP MM712 DCP Media Module Software/Firmware Avaya Aura Communication Manager HW9 Avaya Aura SIP Enablement Services (SES) Avaya Aura SIP Enabled Services (SES) Server SP2 Avaya Messaging (Voice Mail) Products Avaya Modular Messaging - Messaging Application Server (MAS) Avaya Modular Messaging - Message Storage Server (MSS) Avaya 9600 Series IP Telephones Avaya Telephony Sets Avaya one-x Deskphone Edition Avaya 9600 Series IP Telephones Avaya one-x Deskphone SIP 2.4 Avaya 2410 Digital Telephone 5.0 Mutare Software Products Mutare Software Message Rescue MS Products Microsoft Windows 2003 Server (Running the Mutare Software Message Mirror Software) Microsoft Windows 2003 Server 4 of 19

5 4. Avaya Aura Communication Manager This section describes the steps required for Avaya Aura Communication Manager to support the configuration shown in Figure 1. The assumption is that the appropriate license and authentication files have been installed on the servers, and that login and password credentials are available. It is assumed that Avaya Aura Communication Manager, Avaya Aura SIP Enabled Services and Avaya Modular Messaging systems are configured, only settings specific to the Mutare Software Message Rescue solution will be shown in this document. Refer to [1], [2], and [3] for more information 5. Avaya Modular Messaging The Mutare Software Message Rescue solution requires the IP Address of the server be a trusted host on the Avaya Modular Messaging. Except where stated, the parameters in all steps are the default settings and are supplied for reference Define a Trusted Server on Avaya Modular Messaging 1. Connect to the Modular Messaging Administration page. For this example was used. Select Continue. Enter the appropriate Username and Password information (not shown), click Login to proceed. 5 of 19

6 2. Select Messaging Administration Trusted Servers. The Manage Trusted Servers webpage appears (not shown), select the Add a New Trusted Server tab. The Add Trusted Server webpage appears. Enter the following: Trusted Server Name - Mutare Password - Enter a password (This password needs to be provided to the Mutare Software Engineer that is installing the Mutare Software Message Rescue software) Confirm Password Reenter the password Machine Name / IP Address (IP Address where Mutare application is installed) Service Name - Mutare IMAP4 Super User Access Allowed Yes 6 of 19

7 6. Mutare Software Message Rescue Software Mutare Software installs and configures the Mutare Software Message Rescue Software on the server. Refer to Section 10, for server requirements and pre-installation guides. Once the Mutare Software Message Rescue Software is installed configure the following: 6.1. Configure Mutare Software Message Rescue Software Mutare Software Message Rescue is administered via a web interface. In the sample network, the Mutare Software Message Rescue was installed on a Windows 2003 server with IP address Open a Web browser and go to the following URL: Enter the appropriate Admin ID and Password information, click Login to proceed. 7 of 19

8 2. The Message Rescue Admin page appears. Select Edit Global Settings to continue. 8 of 19

9 3. The Message Rescue Admin Global Settings page appears. The backup path can be any storage device on the LAN or in the cloud. For compliance testing, the backup path was set to directory vmail under the default OD directory. Change Backup Path to C:\OD\vmail. Select Save Changes to continue. 9 of 19

10 6.2. In the Event of an Avaya Modular Messaging Outage In the event of an Avaya Modular Messaging outage, the Mutare MMEvents and Mutare MsgMirror services must be stopped and disabled to prevent damage to the stored Mailboxes. 1. Stop and disable the Mutare Software services. From the server that is running the Mutare software, select Start Run, enter services.msc (not shown). Find the MMEvents service, right mouse click and select Properties. Use the drop-down list for Startup type and select Disabled and then select Stop. Once the service has stopped, select OK to continue. **Note: Repeat this step for the Mutare MsgMirror service. 10 of 19

11 6.3. Retrieve Voic messages via the Message Rescue Website In the event of an Avaya Modular Messaging outage, and until service is restored, users can access their backed-up messages from a secure website. 1 Open a Web browser and go to the following URL: The Message Rescue Login screen appears, enter the appropriate Mailbox and Mailbox Password, for this example Mailbox was used. Click Login to continue. 2. The Message Rescue Messages screen appears. If there are messages, there will be information for Message Date, Subject and From as well as a Listen and Forward boxes. 11 of 19

12 3. To listen to a Voic , click the Listen box. 4. The Voic message will open and start to play. 5. To sent the Voic message via , click the Forward box 6. The Explore User Prompt dialogue box appears, enter the address of where the message will be sent to. Select OK to continue. 12 of 19

13 6.4. Restore All Voic via the Restore Command Once the Avaya Modular Messaging service is restored, a global restore can be done. It will restore the Voic Messages to the way they were before the service to Avaya Modular Messaging was lost. **Note: The restore will not create the user mailboxes, user mailboxes must be restored/created before the Voic restore process is started. 1. Open a cmd window on the Message Rescue server, Run the following commands: cd C:\OD\Programs MsgMirror /RESTORE 2. The Mailbox Transfer dialogue box appears, once the restore has completed it will disappear. 13 of 19

14 3. Restart and reset startup type for the Mutare Software services. From the server that is running the Mutare software, select Start Run, enter services.msc (not shown). Find the MMEvents service, right mouse click and select Properties. Use the drop-down list for Startup type and select Automatic. Select Apply, followed by Start. Once the service has started, select OK to continue. **Note: Repeat this step for the Mutare MsgMirror service. 14 of 19

15 7. General Test Approach and Test Results This section describes the general test approach used during compliance testing and the test results Test Approach All test cases were performed manually. The general test approach entailed verifying the following list: The general test approach was to configure the Avaya Telephony Infrastructure using Avaya Aura Communication Manager and Avaya Modular Messaging to interoperate with the Mutare Software Message Rescue solution (shown in Figure 1). Testing included the creation of mailboxes. It was verified that mailboxes and messages on the Modular Messaging system were copied to the backup folder on the Mutare Server. It was also verified that Voic messages could be listen to and ed via the Mutare Software Message Rescue webpage. Once the service to the Avaya Modular Messaging system is restored, it was verified that voic messages were restored to Avaya Modular Messaging. Serviceability test included power cycling the primary and backup Avaya Modular Messaging systems as well as the server that the Mutare Software Message Mirror is running on and verified the solution recovered Test Results The Mutare Software Message Rescue solution with Avaya Modular Messaging passed all test cases described in Section Verification Steps This section provides the steps for verifying the Mutare Software Message Rescue solution with Avaya Modular Messaging, the verification steps include the following. 15 of 19

17 8.2. Verify Backup Leave a Voic message and verify that it is being saved to the backup directory. For this example, Mailbox will be used. Use Windows Explorer and go to the following directory: C:\OD\vmail\51012\inbox. Verify that there are voic files. 9. Conclusion These Application Notes describe the configuration steps required for integrating the Mutare Software Message Rescue solution with Avaya Modular Messaging. For the configuration described in these Application Notes, the Mutare Software Message Rescue solution was responsible for backing up and restoration of Voice Mailboxes that reside on an enterprise Avaya Modular Messaging. 17 of 19
