It is paper that automatically and instantaneously transfers text or an image from one sheet of paper to another when subjected to pressure from a pen or dot-matrix printer due to the interaction of two special coatings. THE PRINCIPLE THE CARBONLESS PAPER SYSTEM USES THREE GRADES OF PAPER: CB (Coated BACK): this is always the top sheet in a set. It is coated on the back with microcapsules containing colourless dyes. This coating transfers the image. CFB (Coated FRONT and BACK): this is the middle sheet of paper. It is coated on the front with a special absorbent and reactive material and on the back with microcapsules. This sheet both receives and transfers an image. CF (Coated FRONT): this is always the bottom sheet of paper. It is coated on the front with the same reactive material as the CFB. This sheet of paper only receives the image.
