4 How to use the product The following section assumes that Resusci Anne Skills Station system has been installed. See chapter 3 for installation information. System overview The Resusci Anne Skills Station consists of up to four elements: Skills manikins o The manikins connected to the Resusci Anne Skills Station PC Skills training and testing software o The measurement and voice feedback software Laerdal CMS o Manages users and progress o Allows the administrator to set up and manage the Resusci Anne Skills Station(s) o Allows the users to book skills training and testing sessions. 5 Example of a typical installation The figure below shows how a typical installation would look in an organization with two Resusci Anne Skills Stations. The users can book sessions from home or work and can then show up at the location of the Resusci Anne Skills Station and perform the Skills training to get their certification. Administrating Resusci Anne Skills Station This section contains the basic information needed to understand and administrate the system setup and parts. The person administrating the Resusci Anne Skills Station and its users should be familiar with the basic building blocks of the system. Note: Detailed information about using the CMS and License Server can be found in the CMS and License Server Installation Guides. Description of the different elements Laerdal Competence Management System (CMS) The CMS is the glue in the middle tying the user database, the user results and the Skills Stations together, and the administrator can use the CMS to manage his users and Skills Stations. Once a little time has been spent on configuring the CMS, users can use the CMS to book their RA Skills sessions and be reminded when they need to re-train. 5 Resusci_anne_skills-station_How-to-use_sp7012_UK.indd 5 25/01/08 10:51:46

6 Laerdal License Server (LS) This small server program is where the license keys are installed and managed. The LS manages and distributes licenses in a multi-user environment. It can also double as a light user administration server in simple setups. Resusci Anne Skills Station This is the client program which must be installed on the PCs that will be connected to the Skills manikins. When people log in to the Skills Station they are prompted with instructions and the skills training and testing scenarios. After the users are done the Resusci Anne Skills Station software sends the results back to the CMS. System setup examples There are several options for using the system and in the following section two examples ranging from a simple setup to an advanced setup will be given. There are of course other ways to use the system, but these examples should show the range of options offered. Simple setup If only the most basic functionality is wanted from the Resusci Anne Skills Station this can be made available by setting up a single stand-alone PC on which only the License Server and the Skills Station software is installed. A typical setup and user scenario would look like this: 1. The IT department sets up the PC with the License Server and the Skills Station software 2. The Skills Station administrator installs the provided license key in the License Server 3. He then goes to his desk and sends out s to the employees in question with dates and times for when to take the Skills test 4. The employee receives the and goes to Skills Station 5. He must sign up and create his own login since no user database has yet been created 6. He then completes the program and prints out his completion certificate 7. 7 Simple setup pros: Easy and simple to set up and get started right away. A solution suited for small organizations. Simple setup cons: This solution needs more administration and maintenance per user. Advanced setup At large sites with many employees and possibly several Resusci Anne Skills Stations installed, the administrative burden and logistic complexity rises. The full Resusci Anne Skills Station system is a powerful system which features: Resource management Employees can book their own Skills Station session Automatic recertification reminder s Integration with existing Active Directory user database Utilizing the full potential of the system demands more configuration and resource allocation up front. However, once the system has been set up and is running, it can run autonomously with minimal administrative effort. A typical setup and user scenario could look like this: 1. An implementation and roll out project is set up involving the IT department. 2. The IT department installs the CMS and License Server on a dedicated server. 3. The IT department integrates the Active Directory (user database) with the CMS. 4. When the technical installation is completed, the Resusci Anne Skills Station administrator can start to use the system. 5. First the administrator configures and sets up the License Server. 6. Then he or she goes to the CMS and sets up the Resusci Anne Skills Stations and desired re-certification and reminder configuration. 7. When this is done an is sent out to all the users stating that the system is open for training and certification. 8. The user follows a link in the which takes him to an online calendar. 8 9. When the time comes he goes to the Skills Station, completes the CPR course, and prints out the certificate. 10. The administrator can check the user and make completion reports in the CMS. 11. After 11 months the CMS automatically sends out an reminder to the user, telling him that he needs to recertify and to book a new CPR training session. Advanced setup pros: The institution can use an existing user Active Directory database. The system can keep track of users and recertification. This solution is suited to larger organizations with high-volume training and certification needs. Advanced setup cons: It needs more up front work and planning. It needs more IT resources for setup and maintenance. Configuring the License Server Below is a small overview of how to configure and use the License Server. Detailed information can be found in the following chapter License Server Administrator s Guide. Installing licenses You can not use the License Server without installing the right licenses. Together with this product you should have received a license key which must be entered in the system. This is done by clicking the + under License Overview in the License Server interface. The License Server is by default set up to block all requests for licenses. You must set up rules or license policies according to how your organization wants the licenses to be distributed. Deciding on license policies Once you have installed the licenses you must decide on how to make them available to the users. Setting license policies Under the advanced license option Define user policies you can set up general rules on how you want to handle license distribution. This is recommended in situations where many users will connect to the License Server through the Resusci Anne Skills Station. 9 organizations needs the administrative burden of running the system can be considerably reduced. An example is if you have configured the Resusci Anne Skills Station to use your existing data network user database (Active Directory) you would create the rule Allow all users to take any license. By doing this one ensures a self-service approach allowing each individual user to complete the process of booking the session, logging in and completing the training and certification, and finally claiming the certificate and log out. Utilizing Active Directory allows the users to log in to the Resusci Anne Skills Station using their normal Windows logon credentials. Assigning licenses directly to each user Another way to administer licenses is to allow access to one license by one user at a time. This can be done when you create a new user, by selecting which licenses he should have access to. For existing users you can reserve or remove reservations under the advanced user option Edit user. This option is useful in situations where full control over licenses is required, and where users are entered sequentially instead of all at one time. Note: A license is considered claimed when he/she logs in to the Resusci Anne Skills Station program, and used when the certification test is passed (or three months after the first login) Using the License Server with the CMS If you want to use the CMS you must configure the License Server to communicate with the CMS. In the License Server you can enter the CMS IP-address, and this will make the License Server interface with the CMS and use the CMS user database. A License Server password must be configured in the CMS before the License Server can connect to the CMS Note: Configuring the License Server to communicate with the CMS will delete any existing Resusci Anne Skills Station users from the License Server user list. This means that if you intend to use the CMS to administrate users, then it is advisable to do a full installation from the very beginning. Users from other programs (i.e. MicroSim and HeartCode) will not be affected by connecting License Server and CMS. Configuring the CMS Below is an overview of how to configure and use the CMS. 10 Managing users Before Resusci Anne Skills Station can be used, you must decide how to administrate the users of the system. There are several ways to set up the user database and it is advisable that this is decided during the installation. Manually creating the users in the CMS In the CMS you can create all the users manually. This is done by logging into the CMS as Administrator and navigating to the Learners list where you can Add Learners. You can then tell the user by phone or what his login is and that he needs to go to the Resusci Anne Skills Station to train and certify. Letting users create their own account In larger organizations with many users greater flexibility is achieved by letting the users register themselves with the Skills Station, and thus, also the CMS. If the Skills Station is configured correctly for this option, users only need to register directly in the Skills Station program and then they will automatically be registered as a user in the CMS. Configuring the CMS to use the Windows user database (Active Directory) This option takes significant work and planning up front involving the IT department, but is very appropriate for larger organizations who wants to run the Resusci Anne Skills Station as a fully automated, self-service CPR system. Setting up Active Directory makes it possible for users to log into the Resusci Anne Skills station with their Windows credentials. Configuring the booking system in the CMS The CMS has functionality to help organizations administrate their Resusci Anne Skills Stations (with manikins). This functionality can be found in the Course Administration section of the CMS. This system is actually a powerful Course Administration system which can be used to set up courses, course registration etc. But this guide will focus on how to set up a booking system for the Resusci Anne Skills Station. Setting up Skills Stations Before the booking system can be set up and used, the CMS must be configured for the specific organization. This means that the CMS must be told about the available Resusci Anne Skills Stations. This can be compared to a meeting room being registered in a centralized room-booking system for later reservations. The system can handle simple configurations where just a single Skills Station is available, as well as more complex scenarios where several manikins, rooms and PCs are available. 11 1. Log in to the CMS as the Administrator 2. Go to the Course Administration section 3. Go to the Manage Skills Stations section 4. Add the desired Resusci Anne Skills Stations Setting up the booking system Once the Skills Station has been added to the system it can be set up and made ready for booking. To do this a course must be created which contains the Resusci Anne Skills Station session booking. These are the typical steps involved in setting up a course with booking Resusci Anne Skills Station sessions: 1. Log in to the CMS as the Administrator 2. Go to the Course Administration section 3. Go to the Courses section 4. Select New Course This will open up the course creation wizard. Go through the steps in the wizard to create a course 5. In the first step of the wizard you must enter the basic information. 6. In the second step of the wizard you can add the sessions for your course. In this case we want to create a booking session where users can sign up for a session themselves. 7. In the third step of the wizard configure who can sign up for the course. By default everyone can sign up for the course, but in some cases it might be desirable to allow only a subset of users to sign up for a course. 8. In the fourth step you can add study materials to be used for the course. This is mostly relevant to other types of courses and can be left blank. After the course has been set up it is now available in the system for users to sign up to. The CMS booking system will have a specific web page that you can make available online or on your Intranet. 12 Booking system pitfalls It is strongly recommended that you thoroughly test the booking system that you have set up before putting it into production. It is a complex system and might not behave the way you expected it the first time around. Examples of what can go wrong: o It is possible to accidentally send out s to the wrong people if one is not careful during the Resusci Anne Skills Station booking creation. o The recertification period could be set incorrectly o The Administrator should be aware that not all users have an address, and plan for this. One way to handle this is to have a general address for these people to use. A person should then monitor this address to see when people are due for recertification. Configuring the Skills Station The Skills Station comes configured with standard values developed together with medical professionals and conforms to the standard AHA/ARC/ERC 2005 guidelines. Accompanying the program is also a generic instructional video giving people an introduction to the program. All the default values constituting the measurement and voice feedback, and their explanations, can be found and reviewed in Chapter 4 Tuning parameters. Advanced configuration Some organizations might find that they have specific needs for the Resusci Anne Skills Station pass criteria, have special instructions or voice feedback they want to give, or don t need all three skill training and testing scenarios (Ventilation, Compression and CPR). For this reason the Resusci Anne Skills Station comes highly configurable. 13 Type of barrier device used in the scenarios (Bag Mask, Pocket Mask, Face Shield) Layout and content of certificate awarded Each scenario has numerous configurable metrics to make the system as configurable as possible. For example you can make the voice feedback parameters different from the evaluation parameters to give a better learning experience. To change the RA Skills training and testing configuration of the scenarios, you have to edit a file called manikin.ini. This file is located in the program installation path in the folder called Config. In Chapter 4 you can find a detailed description of all the parameters that can be tuned to fit your curriculum or training needs. Note: It is recommended you perform user validation tests after changing the parameters to make sure that the functionality corresponds with the desired result. Note: If the Resusci Anne Skills Station has been endorsed by a national or regional organization (i.e. American Heart Association or United Kingdom Resuscitation Council), these parameters may have been set to specific values and left non-changeable for all users of the system. 13 Resusci_anne_skills-station_How-to-use_sp7012_UK.indd 13 25/01/08 10:51:46
