1 How To: Entrance Counseling and Master Promissory Note

2 What You ll Need For Entrance Counseling, you ll need the following: STUDENT S FSA ID and password General idea of your monthly costs (Ex. Rent, utilities, entertainment, etc.) Award letter information (See Financial Aid Checklist on student s Eaglenet) For the Master Promissory Note you ll need the following: STUDENT S FSA ID and password Driver s license Permanent/mailing address information First/Last name, address, and telephone number of TWO references (people who have different U.S addresses and have known you for at least 3 years)

3 Step 1: Go to Use Firefox or Chrome browser Click on Log In Login with FSA ID and password If you need to create an FSA ID click on link Create an FSA ID If you forgot your username or password click Log In and then Forgot Username or Password

4 Step 2: Review Disclaimer and Click Accept

5 Entrance Counseling 1 On your Home Page: 1. Click the Complete Loan Counseling link 2. On the Complete Counseling page, find the Entrance Counseling (it should be the first one on the list) 3. Click Start! 2 3

6 Helpful Hint! You ll need to first click Complete Loan Counseling (Entrance, Financial Awareness, Exit) Please allow minutes to complete You will only need to complete the Entrance Counseling Second, you ll click Complete Loan Agreement (Master Promissory Note) Please allow minutes to complete Note: You are not able to save information. You must complete these steps in full.

7 Entrance Counseling-Adding a School Make sure to add Kirkwood Community College as the school to be notified. 1 2 Select that you are completing this as an undergraduate student. If Kirkwood is not in your Associated Schools, add by choosing Iowa, and then finding Kirkwood Community College. 3 Click Continue!

8 Entrance Counseling-Reading the Info. Next, you ll come to a page where you get to read all the information about federal aid. Read it thoroughly, and answer the questions along the way (they give you the answers in the text). The questions will ask you about your current loan balance. You can find that up in the text here. (It may say zero, and in that case your answer would be zero.)

9 Entrance Counseling- Manage Your Spending To fill in your funds, use the information found on your Award Letter. To access your award letter, login to Eaglenet, and click the Financial Aid Award Letter link under the Financial Aid heading

10 Entrance Counseling- Your Expenses 1 You can select the criteria in the right hand column that fits your situation (in-state vs. out-ofstate) 2 On the right hand column you can estimate your monthly costs There is no consequence if what you put in the box is not exact. This is just an estimation exercise.

11 Entrance Counseling-Plan to Repay Here you ll estimate your future income to help determine your projected repayment. Check this link to help predict what your future salary looks like.

12 Entrance Counseling-Avoid Default On the Avoid Default page, read the information carefully, and answer the questions along the way. Again, the answers are in the text.

13 Entrance Counseling-Plan for the Future Last page! Read the information thoroughly and answer the last question. BE SURE TO CLICK SUBMIT COUNSELING WHEN YOU ARE FINISHED.

14 Master Promissory Note 1 On your Home Page: 1. Click Complete Loan Agreement link 2. Find the MPN for Subsidized/Unsubsidized Loans (it should be the first one) 3. Click Start! 2 3

15 MPN for Subsidized/Unsubsidized Loans First you ll have to make sure all your personal information is correct.

16 MPN for Subsidized/Unsubsidized Loans Then be sure to add Kirkwood as the school to be notified.

17 MPN- References You ll need two references, and they outline the requirements here. Suggestion: Try using a close family friend or relative.

18 MPN- Sign and Submit After reviewing your information you ll come to the actual MPN. Take your time, and read the letter before signing, there is a lot of good information in the MPN that you ll want to know. Lastly, electronically sign, and click Sign & Submit

19 Congratulations!!! You re finished!!! J
