1 00684A_quick guide_dvd 2/17/05 9:58 AM Page 1 Quick Guide Getting Connected Basic Operation Getting Connected Select one of the following three types of connections: Antenna + DVD Recorder + TV : No Cable Box Antenna + SetTop Box or VCR + DVD Recorder + TV : No Cable Box Antenna + Cable Box + DVD Recorder + TV This Recorder will only record on DVDR, DVDRW and DVDRAM discs. The ANT OUT jack of this product sends only signals received through the antenna. It does not output audio/video signals. You must use one of the following connections on this unit. Antenna + DVD Recorder + TV : No Cable Box AV amplifier (receiver) œ TV DVD Recorder Connect the signal source to the DVD Recorder Use a TV antenna or coaxial cable to connect the signal source coming from the antenna or wall to the ANT IN jack on the DVD Recorder. Connect the DVD Recorder to the TV Use the supplied RF cable to connect ANT OUT on the DVD Recorder to the ANT jack on the TV. Then use the Video/Audio Cable to connect LINE AUDIO OUT(R/L)/VIDEO OUT jacks on the DVD Recorder to the Audio & Video jacks on the TV. For better picture quality, if your TV has an SVideo jack, you can use SVideo cable instead of the yellow video connector on the Video/Audio cable. For the best picture quality, if your TV has Component video jacks, you can use component cables instead of the yellow video connector on the Video/Audio cable. If the TV connected supports Progressive Scan, press the P.SCAN button on the front of the DVD Recorder to enjoy higher quality video. If you have an AV amplifier Connect either audio cables from the LINE AUDIO OUT jacks on the DVD Recorder to the LINE IN jacks on your AV amplifier, or a digital cable from the DIGITAL AUDIO OUT (COAXIAL or OPTICAL) jack on the DVD Recorder to the DIGITAL AUDIO IN jack on your AV amplifier. Connect the STB or VCR to the DVD Recorder Use the Video/Audio Cable to connect the LINE OUT jacks on the STB or VCR to the AUDIO/VIDEO LINE 1 IN jacks on the DVD Recorder. For better picture quality, if your STB or VCR has an SVideo jack, you can use SVideo cable instead of the yellow video jack on the Video/Audio cable. Connect the DVD Recorder to the TV Use the Video/Audio Cable to connect the LINE AUDIO OUT(R/L)/VIDEO OUT jacks on the DVD Recorder to the Audio & Video jacks on the TV. AV amplifier (receiver) STB(VCR) DVD Recorder Antenna + Cable Box + DVD Recorder + TV AV amplifier (receiver) Cable box œ TV DVD Recorder Connect the signal source to the Cable Box Use a coaxial cable to connect the signal source coming from the wall to the ANT IN jack on your Cable Box. Connect your Cable Box to the DVD Recorder Use a coaxial cable to connect the RF OUT jack on your Cable Box to the ANT IN jack on your DVD Recorder. Connect the DVD Recorder to the TV Use the supplied RF cable to connect ANT OUT on the DVD Recorder to the ANT jack on the TV. Then use the Video/ Audio Cable to connect the LINE AUDIO OUT(R/L)/VIDEO OUT jacks on the DVD Recorder to the Audio & Video jacks on the TV. For better picture quality, if your TV has an SVideo jack, you can use SVideo cable instead of the yellow video connector on the Video/Audio cable. For the best picture quality, if your TV has Component video jacks, you can use component cables instead of the yellow video connector on the Video/Audio cable. "Auto" appears in the panel display. This means that the current time is being set automatically (Auto Program) through the antenna under connection and also the channel is being set. The setup may take a few minutes. When it normally operates, the current time is automatically set and displayed in the front panel display. You must have the antenna connected to automatically set the clock. For ease of use, we recommend that you complete the following settings before using the DVD Recorder. Turn on your TV and any other connected equipment Input Selector Turn on your TV and any other connected equipment Input Selector Press the Input Selector on your TV remote control until the signal from the DVD Recorder appears on the screen. OSD Language Press the DVD POWER The initial set up OSD language menu will appear. Select the desired language using the number buttons. OSD(OnScreen Display) Language Audio Video With the unit in Stop mode, press the MENU Select using the / buttons, then press the or ENTER System Language Audio Video Parental Control Select System using the / buttons, then press the or ENTER System CM Skip Time : 15 Sec EP Mode Time : 6 Hours Chapter Creator : Off Select using the / buttons, then press the or ENTER Auto Manual Select Auto using the / buttons, then press the or Select On using the / buttons, then press the or ENTER Auto Auto : On Off Clock Data CH : Automatic On Time Zone : Automatic Daylight Saving : Automatic The DVD Recorder automatically sets the clock by searching for a channel that carries a time signal and sets your time zone and daylight saving(if applicable). 3

If your clock cannot be set automatically, set the clock manually (Refer to Manual on page 24 of the Instruction Manual for more information). With the unit in Stop mode, press the MENU Select using the / buttons, then press the or Select System using the / buttons, then press the or Select using the / buttons, then press the or Select Signal Source (Antenna/Cable TV) using the / buttons, then press the or Antenna/Cable TV : Cable TV Auto Channel Memory Channel Add/Delete Channel Add/Delete Select Antenna or Cable TV using the / buttons, then press the or Antenna/Cable TV : Cable Antenna TV Auto Channel Memory Cable TV Use the / buttons to select the desired item(pcm, Bitstream, DTSOff or DTSOn). Then press the or ENTER Video This allows you to set up the TV screen settings. (Refer to Setting Up the TV Aspect on page 29 of the Instruction Manual for more information) With the unit in Stop mode, press the MENU Select using the / buttons, then press the or Select Video using the / buttons, then press the or Select the TV Aspect using the / buttons, then press the or Use the / buttons to select the desired item (4:3 LetterBox, 4:3 Pan Scan or 16:9 Wide). Then press the or Video TV Aspect : 16:9 4:3 LetterBox Wide Input Level : 4:3 Darker PanScan Black Level : 16:9 7.5 IRE Wide 3D Noise Reduction : Off Front Display : Auto Dim Select Auto Channel Memory using the / buttons, then press the or Auto Channel Memory will be displayed and channels will be saved into memory Auto Channel Memory Total channel numbers: 06/125 Saved channel : 05 5% Scanning... Stop We recommend using one of the discs in the table as they have been confirmed to be compatible with this unit. Other discs may not perform correctly. Audio Allows you to set up the audio device and sound settings depending on the your audio system. (Refer to Setting Up the Audio Options on page 27 of the Instruction Manual for more information) With the unit in Stop mode, press the MENU Select using the / buttons, then press the or Select Audio using the / buttons, then press the or Select the sub menu (Digital Output or DTS) using the / buttons, then press the or Allows you to set up the audio device and the sound. Make sure you complete with. before proceeding The following instructions will give you a quick overview about how to use the DVD Recorder. Formatting a Disc Recording the current TV program you are watching Making a Timer Recording Finalizing a Disc DVDR : Formatting is unnecessary and only Video Mode Recording is supported. Press the MENU button with the disc stopped. to select Disc Manager, and then press the ENTER or to select Disc Format, and then press the ENTER or DVDRAM(VR) Playlist Disc Name : Disc Protection : Not protected Disc Format Delete All s DVDRAM(VR) You will be prompted with the confirmation message 'Do you want to format disc?'. Press the œ/ buttons to select Yes, then press the The DVD RAM disc is formatted. DVDRW You will be prompted with the confirmation message Choose the recording format for DVDRW. Press the œ/ buttons to select the desired format type, then press ENTER. The DVDRW Disc is formatted. DVDRAM(VR) Disc Name : Playlist Disc Protection : Not protected Do Disc you Format want to format disc? Delete All s Yes No DVDRW Disc Name : Playlist Disc Protection : Not protected Disc Format Choose the recording format for DVDRW. Delete All s DVDVR DVDV Formatting a Disc When you insert a blank disc, you will be asked whether or not you want to format or initialize it. Since available functions differ depending on the disc type, select a disc that best fits your preferences. DVDRAM : Must be formatted. DVDRW : When Yes is selected, the mode will be formatted in VR mode. If you want to format in Video mode, refer to Formatting a Disc on page 80 of the User s manual for more information. Unformatted Disc Do you want to format this disc? Yes No Uninitialized Disc Do you want to initialize this disc? Yes No Recording the current TV program you are watching Press the OPEN/CLOSE button, and place a recordable disc on the disc tray. You can not change the recording mode or the channel while recording. Press the OPEN/CLOSE button to close the disc tray. Wait until LOAD disappears from the front panel display. If a blank DVDRAM or DVDRW disc is used, you will be asked whether or not you want to format or initialize it. DVDRAM/DVDRW discs should be formatted in advance before starting to record. Most new discs are sold unformatted. Make sure that your unformatted discs are formatted before recording. Recording will stop automatically if copy protected content is selected. Press the CH ( / ) or number (0~9) buttons to select the current program you want to record. 5

SP LP EP XP Record Mode SP (02:12) Finalizing a Disc After you record programs onto a DVDRW/DVDR disc with your DVD recorder, it needs to be finalized before it can be played back on external devices. Press the MENU button with the disc stopped. to select, and then press the ENTER or Mode XP (high quality mode) SP (standard quality mode) LP (long recording mode) EP (extended mode) Recording Times Approx. 1 hour Approx. 2 hours Approx. 4 hours Approx. 6 hours/8 hours Press the REC Information concerning the channel being recorded is displayed on the screen and then recording begins. To stop recording Press the STOP ( ) button to stop or finish a recording in progress. Making a Timer Recording Press the OPEN/CLOSE button, and place a recordable disc on the disc tray. Press the OPEN/CLOSE button to close the disc tray. DVDRW(VR) Playlist DVDR(V) Disc Name : Disc Protection : Not protected Disc Format : DVDVR Disc Finalize Press the œ/buttons to select Yes, and then press the ENTER The disc is finalized. Once a disc is finalized, you cannot delete entries from the record list. After being finalized, the DVDR/DVDRW(Video mode) operates in the same manner as a regular DVDVideo disc. Depending on the disc type, the screen display may appear different. Disc Name : Disc Protection : Not protected Disc Finalize Fill in the items using the / /œ/ buttons. Press the ENTER DVDRAM(VR) Scheduled Record List Recordable Time 02:12 SP No. Source Date Start End Mode Edit 01 CH 09 01/01 12:00 AM 02:00 AM SP 02 / : : The ( ) icon and Timer Set will appear on the front panel display, indicating a timer recording is set.
