Multicast IPTV Distribution For Network Operators

How does IPTV work? Video is transcoded or encoded from some video source It is curated and organized for distribution It is conditioned with several other protocols that may include: Closed captioning Different or alternate audio DRM (Digital Rights Management) Specially conditioned video, or customizations Error Correction Then finally pushed out to a distribution network 10

How does IPTV work? Protocols or routines you will become familiar with in this class: IGMP IP Group Management (or Member) Protocol PIM RTP RTSP 11

What is the difference between RodeoTV and IPTV So lets learn a bit about pim Protocol Independent Multicast Several modes Sparse, Dense, Spares-Dense and bi-directional PIM Sparse Mode PIM Sparse Mode (PIM-SM) is a multicast routing protocol designed on the assumption that recipients for any particular multicast group will be sparsely distributed throughout the network. In other words, it is assumed that most subnets in the network will not want any given multicast packet. In order to receive multicast data, routers must explicitly tell their upstream neighbors about their interest in particular groups and sources. Routers use PIM Join and Prune messages to join and leave multicast distribution trees. 16

What is the difference between RodeoTV and IPTV So lets learn a bit about pim The Crossfire and MHE is already set up for the type of protocols your network will use Some RodeoTV services bypass the need for some standard protocols more on this later PIM Dense Mode PIM Dense Mode (PIM-DM) is a multicast routing protocol designed with the opposite assumption to PIM-SM, namely that the receivers for any multicast group are distributed densely throughout the network. That is, it is assumed that most (or at least many) subnets in the network will want any given multicast packet. Multicast data is initially sent to all hosts in the network. Routers that do not have any interested hosts then send PIM Prune messages to remove themselves from the tree. 17

What is the difference between RodeoTV and IPTV So lets learn a bit about IGMP Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP) is an Internet protocol that provides a way for an Internet computer to report its multicast group membership to adjacent routers. Multicasting allows one computer on the Internet to send content to multiple other computers that have identified themselves as interested in receiving the originating computer's content. Multicasting can be used for such applications as updating the address books of mobile computer users in the field, sending out company newsletters to a distribution list, and "broadcasting" highbandwidth programs of streaming media to an audience that has "tuned in" by setting up a multicast group membership. 10 What is the difference between RodeoTV and IPTV RodeoTV is a complete eco-system for video delivery for operators of ISPs, MDUs, and other telecommunication companies to enhance their revenue models. All fully and legally licensed for our VARs and Operators. IPTV is a small part of what RodeoTV actually is. IPTV, and many of its variants are actually rolled into the larger RodeoTV product. RodeoTV is primarily MULTICAST based, with some features that utilize unicast protocols. RodeoTV has several bolt-on products that build upon different video components to deliver several revenue model enhancers for the operator or VAR. 12
