TDM Server offers the possibility to outsource data and evaluations to a server and to organize them centrally. TDM Server contains DataFinder, Data Preprocessor, Analysis Server, and Data Navigator. DataFinder indexes data in the specified search areas. Data Preprocessor standardizes the data of different measurements. Analysis Server executes calculations and creates reports. Use Data Navigator to navigate and search in the search areas of DataFinder. TDM Server returns result data, for example, in TDM, TDMS, and XLSX format as well as reports as PDF, XPS or PPTX documents and graphics in different formats. TDM Server can read and write data in formats supported by the registered Data Plugins. With DIAdem as the development environment, the processing and report generation with TDM Server can be developed and tested. The following document contains instructions for installing and configuring the TDM Server, DIAdem, and the NI Volume License Manager (NI VLM). TDM Server and NI VLM are installed on servers in a company intranet. You install DIAdem as a client on several work stations, which have access to TDM Server. In this scenario NI VLM and the Data Management Software Suite are installed on the same computer. If the Data Management Software Suite is installed as an evaluation version, the step Installing and Configuring TDM Server describes how to proceed.

2 Installing NI Volume License Manager In the first step, you install the NI Volume License Manager on the server. The installation requires an internet connection. 1. Double-click Start.exe in the file explorer to start installation. 2. Click Install NI Volume License Manager 3.1 on the installation UI. Follow the instructions of the installation program. Configuring NI Volume License Manager After installation you configure NI Volume License Manager. NI Volume License Manager (NI VLM) helps you to manage and administer your National Instruments volume license. NI Volume License Manager launches after installation. If you want to check or change settings later, you can call the NI VLM in the TDM Server Control Panel or in the Windows Start menu. When the VLM starts for the first time, this wizard starts. 2 ni.com Data Management Software Suite Installation

3 1. Click Next. 2. Install the agreement license file: a. If you have no license file available, select I do not have an agreement license file for this computer and request the license file in the next steps. This creates a text file containing the data required by NI to generate your agreement license file. Please send the text file directly to your NI branch and not to agreements@ni.com (as mentioned in the wizard), to speed up processing. Once you have the license file, you can continue with the installation wizard. Note The Volume License Installer Wizard only starts the first time you open NI VLM, so please cancel the Volume License Installer Wizard while you are waiting for your license file. 4 b. If you already have the license file available, select I have an agreement license file for this computer and install it here. c. Click Next. 3. If you do not have any previous settings, select Do not import settings. 4. Click Next. 4 ni.com Data Management Software Suite Installation

5 5. In the Administrator Information section, enter the requested information. Clients see this contact information when they install software from Volume License Installers or when requesting permissions through NI License Manager. 6. Click Next. Click Allow NI VLM to send my VLA Log to National Instruments automatically to allow NI VLM to send the VLA Log to NI automatically over a secure internet connection, in accordance with your volume license agreement. 8. Click Next. 9. Configure the settings. You need a SMTP server to send s. Your IT department can provide the respective address. The help contains further details on settings. 10. 7 11. Click Finish. The NI Volume License Manager opens in the detailed view where you can make further settings. The Status view displays the current state of the VLM and any important information/notices. 12. Click Start Volume License Server. 8 The server state changes to Running. 13. Click the Licenses tab. Use the Licenses view to manage the licenses in your volume license agreement. The VLM displays a DIAdem license which can be used by various computers. In DIAdem, you create configurations for the Data Preprocessor and the Analysis Server. 14. Click the Computers tab. Use the Computers view to manage any of the computers listed in NI Volume License Manager. 15. Click Add Computer. 8 ni.com Data Management Software Suite Installation

9 16. Complete the Computer Information section. Computer Name and Computer ID are required and must be unique. All other fields are optional. Enter the name of the computer on which TDM Server is installed. In this scenario it is the name of the local computer. 10 17. Add Explicit Licenses. 18. Select the licenses you purchased for the TDM Server. 19. Click Add. 20. Click Save to save the computer where the TDM Server is installed. 10 ni.com Data Management Software Suite Installation

12 Installing and Configuring TDM Server In the second step of this scenario, you install TDM Server on the same server. The installation requires an internet connection. 1. Double-click Start.exe in the file explorer to start installation. 2. Click Install DataFinder Server & Analysis Server 2018 on the installation UI. Follow the instructions of the installation program. After the reboot, the TDM Server Control Panel will automatically start and lead you through the setup. Starting the control panel may take a while. If the TDM Server Control Panel does not start, please start the application manually. 12 ni.com Data Management Software Suite Installation

13 Web Server Configuration 1. Click User-defined configuration. A message box opens. 2. Click OK. The NI Web Server Guided Setup opens with the Select Preset tab. 3. Select Help Me Choose a Preset to use a configuration wizard. The wizard goes through a series of questions to choose the right preset for your web server. 4. Select Secure Remote Access if you want to access the TDM Server on your local network. Data Management Software Suite Installation National Instruments Ireland Resources Limited 13

14 The following steps describe the configuration preset with Secure Remote Access. 5. Click Next. 6. Disable the setting Log in using an admin user for server administration. a. Enable Log in using Windows accounts. 14 ni.com Data Management Software Suite Installation

15 In the following steps, other users can therefore work with TDM Server with your Windows account. 7. Click Next. 8. Enter the names of the Windows users that are to be permitted to have TDM Server access. You can enter Windows groups later in the detailed settings. 9. Click Next. 16 10. Choose Select an existing certificate file. a. Select a certificate file and the associated key file. Your IT department can provide these files. If you do not have these files, you can work with a self-signed certificate and change this setting later in the detailed settings. However, if you work with a self-signed certificate you might receive security warnings, depending on your browser and the security settings on your computer. 11. Click Next. 12. Specify the Server HTTPS Port. Your IT department can tell you which port is available on the server. 16 ni.com Data Management Software Suite Installation

18 The NI Web Server Configuration opens. In the default configuration, users with an admin role can export data from and download data into the Data Navigator, configure the Data Navigator, view and configure TDM Server. 15. Select roles which can use Data Navigator and TDM Server. You can add new roles and specify these on the next tab. 18 ni.com Data Management Software Suite Installation

19 16. Click Apply to take over your changes immediately. 17. Click the Roles tab. Add further users to the admin roles, so that they can also use the Data Navigator and the TDM Server. Data Management Software Suite Installation National Instruments Ireland Resources Limited 19

20 18. Open admins. 19. If necessary, add further Windows users or Windows groups to the roles. Only users with admin roles configured previously on the Application tab can use the Data Navigator and the TDM Server. 20 ni.com Data Management Software Suite Installation

21 20. Click Apply to take over your changes immediately. 21. Click the Authentication tab. 22. Select Restrict to users in a single Active Directory domain to limit access to a domain. 22 23. Click the HTTPS tab to change the certificate or disable HTTPS. 24. Click the Summary tab. The summary displays the URI for TDM Server. Every authorized user can call the TDM Server with this URI. 22 ni.com Data Management Software Suite Installation

23 25. Click Apply and Restart to complete the configuration. 26. Close the NI Web Server Configuration. The TDM Server Control Panel is still open. 27. Click Next. TDM Server Account Configure the account under which TDM Server runs. The Data Preprocessor, Analysis Server, and DataFinder Server use this account for accessing data and processing tasks. The account needs read and write access permission to all current file servers. If the account does not have the permission to run as a service, the TDM Server Control Panel will add this permission to the account. 1. Select This account and enter appropriate Windows credentials if you want to process files on the network. Use a user account with a password that does not expire. Note Initially, the user must register at the Windows operating system so that TDM Server can setup the environment for this user. This includes, for example, a PDF printer for the Analysis Server. 24 2. Click Next. Accept any further inquiries. Licensing After installing and configuring NI Volume License Manager, you make the volume license available to TDM Server. 1. Select Local volume license server, because in this scenario we have installed TDM Server and NI VLM on the same server. 24 ni.com Data Management Software Suite Installation

25 Note Select Network volume license server when TDM Server and NI VLM are installed on different servers. 2. Click Volume License Manager if you want to check or change settings. If the NI Volume License Manager is not yet configured, follow the instructions in chapter Configuring NI Volume License Manager. 3. 26 A message box appears indicating that the NI Volume License Manager and the TDM Server are hosted on the same computer. 4. Click OK. The License Manager opens. 5. Click on the menu and select Manage Volume License Server. 6. Enter localhost as the Volume License Server. 7. Click OK. 26 ni.com Data Management Software Suite Installation

27 8. Click Network Licenses, to display the licenses. 9. Close the NI License Manager. Complete Configuration Go to the still open TDM Server Control Panel to complete the configuration. 1. Click Finish. Data Management Software Suite Installation National Instruments Ireland Resources Limited 27

29 Launch TDM Server Manager After configuring NI Volume License Server and TDM Server, you can start working with the Data Management Software Suite. 1. Select Servers»TDM Server Manager on the TDM Server Control Panel. 2. Click Open TDM Server Manager. You can also launch the Server Manager in the Windows start menu. Every registered user can also launch the TDM Server Manager through the URL displayed in the summary of the NI Web Server Configuration. 3. Log in with your Windows name and password. 30 4. Click Login. TDM Server Manager starts in your web browser. 5. Click New to set up your new server instances. 30 ni.com Data Management Software Suite Installation

31 Installing DIAdem In the last step, install DIAdem on the workstations as clients to create configurations for the Data Preprocessor and the Analysis Server. 1. Double-click Start.exe in the file explorer to start the installation. 2. Click Install DIAdem 2018 on the installation UI. Install DIAdem for evaluation and activate the license later on. After installing DIAdem and rebooting the computer, you can use the TDM Server volume license to activate DIAdem. Acitvating with a Volume License 1. Open the NI License Manager in the Windows Start menu. 2. Select Manage Volume License Server in the license manager. 32 3. Enter the server address of the Volume License Server. 4. Click OK. The DIAdem license can only be used by one user at a time. However, you can purchase additional DIAdem licenses from National Instruments. 5. Open DIAdem»SCRIPT to create Data Preprocessor packages and Analysis Server packages for the TDM Server. 32 ni.com Data Management Software Suite Installation
