2 Application Edition Management Application Editioning means.. Multiple deployments of the same application This can also be versioning You ll have a base application and then the other versions of it. This allows you to work with multiple version of the same application in the same deployment environment. These multiple editions can be run and reachable at the same time.

3 Previous vs New Before v8.5 we cannot have the same application multiple times To install a new version of the application, you need to undeploy previous and then redeploy. From v8.5 you can have multiple copies of the same application by versioning them using application edition management. You can rollout new edition without interrupting the service.

4 Edition Control Center The edition control center enables management and operational control over application editions, including interruption free application upgrade.

5 Installing Applications Installing an application is same as before. There are no changes to this procedure. This is for base version of the application. When you install the 2 nd version or copy of the same application you ll need to fill an extra field called version [see the screenshot]

8 Edition control center options Activate Changes application state to active. Only activated applications can be started. Deactivate changes application state to inactive Validate changes application state from inactive to validated. This will create a clone of the application deployment targets for validation. When an edition that is in validation mode is rolled out, the rollout acts on the original deployment targets and the cloned deployment targets are deleted Cancel validation cancels the validation mode of an application edition. Roll out changes state from inactive to active. You can use either group roll out or atomic roll out. Group rollout divides target cluster into groups for application rollout Atomic rollout does roll out at half a targets at a time. The replaced app edition is out to inactive state. This rollout strategy ensures that no loss of service occurs for single server deployment targets

9 Validation Edition validation creates a temporary deployment target environment and works with On-Demand-Router to route the requests to it. Once the new edition is tested, it can be rolled out. Validation feature allows you to test your application on deployment environment which is identical to that of the actual live environment.

11 rollout Once the edition is validated/tested, it can be rolled out to replace the old version of the application, without interrupting its availability. Rollout can be of one of the two strategies: Group rollout divides target cluster into groups for application rollout Atomic rollout does roll out at half a targets at a time. This rollout strategy ensures that no loss of service occurs for single server deployment targets Both strategies have a reset options, which is about how you restart the JVMs SOFT this will restart only application HARD this will restart the JVM. So if you have dependencies that needs JVM restart, then this is the options for you. You can also define a drainage interval, which sets the time to allow before the reset option is executed. This means.. You can finish the in-flight requests before it executes reset. Also when the new edition is deployed that target will be marked ineligible to receive the requests, until the edition is consistent across all deployment targets.
