5 Deployment Scenarios Process Center Deployments This includes the deployments that are done through the Process Designer as part of the general life cycle of development Process Server Deployments Deployment of snapshots managed either through online deployments or offline deployments to a targeted process server. Advanced Deployments The Advanced scenarios include deployments through the IBM Integration Designer. WebSphere Support Technical Exchange 5

6 Online Servers vs Offline All Online process servers are visible in the Process Center Console servers Tab.Each connected process server indicates the name, the type of the server and its status The Apps and various snaphsots that are deployed to a process server can be displayed by clicking on each of them. 7 Online Servers vs Offline (Cont d) Offline process servers can be added to the servers tab for offline deployments. An offline server is a runtime Process Server that is not connected to a Process Center. Offline servers can still be used when deploying snapshots of Process Applications. Create deployment package (Process Center) retrieveprocessapppackage.bat (Process Center) installprocessapppackage.bat (Process Server) WebSphere Support Technical Exchange 7

8 Online Deployments Works seemless with the target process servers. As simple as clicking the snapshot and saying Install. Deploys named snapshots. Author --> can only deploy to Staging and Dev. Admin --> can deploy to Prod. exports a zip to /temp and deploys using the HTTP servlet call. WebSphere Support Technical Exchange 8

9 Tables LSW_SERVER Keeps a record of the heartbeat and the communication between the Process Center and its various runtime Process servers LSW_DEPLOYMENTS Keeps record of the deployments to various Process servers, in this Process Center Table WebSphere Support Technical Exchange 9

11 Troubleshooting PC to PS Communication Communication between a process center and a process server and is stored in the LSW_SERVER table The LAST_HEARTBEAT is the time that process center looks for when it tries to deploy to the process server. Uses a tw_runtime_server user to communicate This user has to be present on both process center and process server Changes in passwords for this user needs to be accounted for, before deployment WebSphere Support Technical Exchange 11

12 Troubleshooting - Roles required for deploying a process The person who is deploying should be part of atleast the deployer role in websphere. A non authorized person trying to deploy could possibly result in a failed deploy. WebSphere Support Technical Exchange 12

13 Troubleshooting - Recovering from failed deploys Tracing a)com.ibm.bpm.fds.*=all:processapplicationlifecycle=all:com.ibm.bpm.fds.repo.util.contributionhelp er=off b) WLE.*=all If the installation of library items and assets generates an exception, the installation fails. Resolve this exception and try to install again. If the installation process fails to send tracking definitions to the Business Performance Data Warehouse, the installation still continues but you need to manually send the definitions after the installation is complete. If the installation service generates an exception when installing the toolkit or process application (Steps 3 and 4 in the table above), the installation fails. Consider building your installation service to capture exceptions and roll back any changes made before the exception is generated. If your installation services do not handle exceptions, you might need to manually roll back changes before attempting to reinstall. For example, if all toolkit installation services complete (Step 3) and then the installation service for the process application fails halfway through its execution (Step 4), you might need to roll back changes resulting from partial completion of Step 4. The toolkit installation is complete and does not need to be executed again. WebSphere Support Technical Exchange 13

14 Some known Issues Cannot find branch for versioning context Tracking definition not sent sucessfully a) Collection passed as value of TRACKING_POINT_ID is too large b) Client inactivity timeout while sending the definitions to the support cluster Incorrect hosts file configuration. Customers who use VMs and clone them to create different servers may run into this issue. retrieveprocessapppackage throws CreateProcess error=87 Tip and snapshot are sharing the same record IID publish and refresh takes long time WebSphere Support Technical Exchange 14
