Introduction 1. Introduction There are several ARM based SoC (System on a Chip) systems available that include more or less different hardware components such as USB 3 or Gigabit Ethernet. STEMMER IMAGING provides standard Debian installation packages to install Common Vision Blox on those systems. The package includes drivers for GigE- Vision as well as USB3-Vision camera devices. The licensing scheme for ARM based systems is the same as on Intel based Windows or Linux systems. You can select between 3 different licenses: - Using a regular Common Vision Blox hardware license based on WiBu dongles - A Node-lock license using features of the particular hardware - Or a Common Vision Blox Camera Suite license that is supplied for free with all GigE-Vision or USB3- Vision cameras purchased from STEMMER IMAGING Beside the standard Debian installation package STEMMER IMAGING provides an ISO image for one of the popular systems which makes it even easier to get up and running with Common Vision Blox on the ARM. Both installation methods are described in this document. You may also be interesting in an Application Note describing the recommended cross-platform development for Common Vision Blox supporting Windows, Intel and ARM based Linux. 13 Installing Common Vision Blox on ARM 7 based systems 3. Installing Common Vision Blox on ARM 7 based systems Copy the contents of the CVB installation package for ARM system to a folder on your desktop. In this case we created a folder named setup. Ensure that you have an internet connection because the installation might have to install additional packages such as wxwidgets. Open a terminal and make the installation script executable. To do this change to the Desktop folder using cd ~/Desktop and type in the following command: sudo chmod 755./install_cvb.sh Now execute the installation script: sudo sh./install_cvb.sh I M A G I N G I S O U R P A S S I O N 13 W W W. 14 Installing Common Vision Blox on ARM 7 based systems The installation might take some time and you may have to reboot your system. If so reboot your system: After rebooting your system, you will find some new application in your start folder. Some of the samples require Qt being installed on your system. Depending on your installed Qt version you may have to recompile the samples. A recipe on how to use CVB with Qt can be found in UsingCVBwithQT_en.pdf which is included together with other required files in CVBQt.zip in opt/cvb/tutorial. 15 Installing Common Vision Blox on ARM 7 based systems If you do have a GigE-Vision or USB3-Vision camera attached to your system start the CVB GenICam Browser. Congratulations your system is ready to use Common Vision Blox. In the following chapter you will be guided through the first steps with Common Vision Blox. I M A G I N G I S O U R P A S S I O N 15 W W W. S T E M M E R - I M A G I N G. C O M

First steps with Common Vision Blox 4. First steps with Common Vision Blox Common Vision Blox for ARM based systems requires a license that can either be based on a WiBu USB protection device (hardware dongle), a node-lock license or a Camera Suite license that is being shipped with GigE-Vision or USB3-Vision cameras purchased from STEMMER IMAGING. In this example we want to use a Camera Suite license of a USB3-Vision camera. As a first step we need to connect the camera to a USB3 port (blue connector) and activate the Camera Suit License supplied with the camera. If you don t have a valid license your image will show a water mark. From the Home menu select Common Vision Blox / CVB Licensing Console: Enter your password and select Enter/Edit CameraSuite Codes. I M A G I N G I S O U R P A S S I O N 16 W W W. S T E M M E R - I M A G I N G. C O M

First steps with Common Vision Blox In the following dialog click the + button to add a new Camera Suite code. Enter your Camera Suite license code that you will find on your camera package and click OK. If you do have Common Vision Blox WiBu key attached to your Odroid you can view it and the licenses for Common Vision Blox tools by clicking the Show Serial Numbers button in the Common Vision Blox Licensing Console. I M A G I N G I S O U R P A S S I O N 17 W W W. S T E M M E R - I M A G I N G. C O M

First steps with Common Vision Blox You can also show your Common Vision Blox tool licenses by clicking the Show/Edit Magic Numbers button. I M A G I N G I S O U R P A S S I O N 18 W W W. S T E M M E R - I M A G I N G. C O M

First steps with Common Vision Blox Close the Common Vision Blox Licensing Console and open your Home folder on the desktop. Navigate to File System / etc / opt /cvb / drivers. Right click the GenICam.ini file and select Open With Pluma to edit the file. I M A G I N G I S O U R P A S S I O N 19 W W W. S T E M M E R - I M A G I N G. C O M

First steps with Common Vision Blox Ensure that the CreateAutoIni flag is set to a value of 1 and that there are no more lines below the [Channel_0] line. This will ensure that the CVB GenICam driver will automatically detect the hardware and write the configuration data to this file. After saving the file your system is ready for using the camera. From the Home menu start the QTSizeable Display application. Click the Open Image button and load the GenICam VIN driver from the File System / opt / cvb / drivers directory. 22 First steps with Common Vision Blox The application will detect the connected hardware whether it might be a USB3-Vision or GigE-Vision camera and show an image of that camera. Toggle the grab using the Grab checkbox. You will find the source code of this application in /opt/cvb/tutorial/imagemanager/qt/qtsizeabledisplay. Further hints If you want to use GigE-Vision cameras with a direct connection to the Odroid you should configure your IPv4 settings to Link-Local Only. The display of the QT Sizeable Display application does not support OpenGL or OpenCL so far which might cause display problems in case of high camera data rates (blocks of lines are displayed incorrectly). STEMMER IMAGING recommends Qt to be used as a developing platform as it provides a comfortable way to develop applications under Windows or Intel Linux and cross compile them on the ARM platform. The provided ISO image for the Odroid already includes the required toolchain and a documentation on how to use Qt for Common Vision Blox. If you installed the system manually you may want to download this Application Note on I M A G I N G I S O U R P A S S I O N 22 W W W. S T E M M E R - I M A G I N G. C O M

Accessing the Odroid from your Windows or Apple machine 5. Accessing the Odroid from your Windows or Apple machine Sometimes it s important to read or write files on your Odroid system. To do so STEMMER IMAGING recommends the WinSCP tool for Windows which you can download here If you start the tool you can open a new connection by supplying the IP address and login credentials of your Odroid. Click the Login button to connect to your Odroid. After login, the tool will display the content of your local system as well as the connect of the Odroid Micros-SD. Simply use drag and drop to copy files back and forth. I M A G I N G I S O U R P A S S I O N 23 W W W. S T E M M E R - I M A G I N G. C O M

Accessing the Odroid from your Windows or Apple machine For Apple users we recommend the Midnight Commander which can be found here The Midnight commander can be started from with the terminal. Start a terminal and enter mc. Select fn + F9 to open the Left menu. From that menu select the Shell Link option. Enter support@odroid_ip as the link to the machine. I M A G I N G I S O U R P A S S I O N 24 W W W. S T E M M E R - I M A G I N G. C O M

Accessing the Odroid from your Windows or Apple machine In the left tree you will find the content of your Odroid Micro-SD card while the right tree shows your local directory structure. Use tab key to toggle between the two directory sets and use the function keys to execute one of the commands displayed in the last line of the Midnight Commander. Additionally you may use Putty under Windows or the ssh terminal command under OS X to remote login to your Odroid system using SSH. I M A G I N G I S O U R P A S S I O N 25 W W W.
