2 1 Safety instructions Thank you for choosing our product. Please read this manual carefully and observe all safety and operating instructions. Store the manual in a safe place for later reference. The flash symbol displayed in a triangle warns the user of dangerous electrical voltages inside the device that could lead to electrical shocks with harmful effects to health if the device is used incorrectly. or The exclamation point displayed in a triangle in the documentation indicates dangers when using and maintaining the device. The information symbol in the documentation indicates useful information and tips for using and maintaining the device. Caution The device is a class 1 laser product. The corresponding label is located on the rear side of the device. When the housing has been opened and the lock is not engaged, visible laser radiation can escape. Avoid looking into the laser beam by all means. Caution The product contains a low-power laser device. In order to ensure the safety of the laser device, do not remove any cover and attempt to repair the unit. If any service is needed, please contact the distributor or its authorized service center. To reduce the risk of electric shock, do not remove the cover (or back). No user-serviceable parts inside. Refer servicing to qualified service personnel. Unplug the product from the wall outlet before servicing or when it is unused for a long period of time. The manufacturer should not hold responsibility for the damage caused by any substitutions and modifications of the product without authorization from the manufacturer or authorized unit. Power supply Connect the power supply cable to the DC 9V IN jack on the left side of the device. Connect the power plug to an earthed socket AC V. If you have problems when plugging the mains plug into the socket, rotate the plug by 180 and plug it in again. 2

3 Tips regarding environmental protection At the end of its operating life, this product may not be disposed of by way of your normal household waste. Instead it must be delivered to a collection point for recycling electrical and electronic equipment. The icon on the product, in the operating instructions or on the packaging, indicates this. The materials used in manufacturing this product are recyclable, depending on their identifying markings. By recycling this equipment, by recycling its components, or through other procedures of re-using outdated equipment, you are making an important contribution to protection our environment. Please ask you local municipal administration for the location of the corresponding recycling point. Caution Read, keep and follow these instructions and heed all warnings. Do not open the casing of the device under any circumstances, and do not attempt to repair or modify the device. Malfunctions, damage, electric shocks and fires can occur as a result. Ensure adequate air circulation around the device. Connect the device only to mains sockets that are properly earthed (protective earth). The mains voltage must correspond to the operating voltage of the device indicated on the device housing. When connecting the device to other electric devices, always follow the manufacturer's instructions. Make sure that the cables are not damaged, stretched or twisted and that no short circuits occur. Use only accessories specified or supplied by the device manufacturer. This also applies to any attachments and fasteners. Place the device in a secure spot where it cannot shift or fall. If used in a vehicle, the device must be securely fastened to avoid injuries or accidents resulting from the device shifting or falling down. During a thunderstorm, disconnect the device from the mains. Do not use the device during a thunderstorm. Malfunctions, damage and electric shocks can occur as a result. Disconnect the power plug from the socket when you do not use the device for an extended period of time. Keep the device in a clean, dry location where it is not exposed to direct sunlight. Caution In case of malfunctions or damage, maintenance or repair work may be required. Do not use the device if there is visible damage to it. All maintenance and repair should be conducted by qualified service technicians only. Do not place any heavy objects and objects that contain liquids, such as vases, on top of the device.. 3

4 Make sure that no objects or fluids can penetrate into the device though openings or venting slots. This could lead to short circuits, damage, electric shocks and fires. Do not touch the TFT LCD screen with your bare hand. Observe the safety instructions on rechargeable batteries in chap Operating the device in a vehicle that the device may not be used while the vehicle is in motion. It may only be used when the vehicle is parked! When operating the device in a vehicle, make sure that it does not inhibit the driver's forward or rear view and that it does not interfere with the safe operation of the vehicle. Otherwise injuries or accidents may result. The driver must not operate the device or look at the screen while driving. Do not allow your children to loosen or disengage their safety belts to operate the device. Do not place the device near the airbag in the vehicle, thus avoiding functional disorders. When the airbag deploys, the device or accessories may be flung through the vehicle and thus can cause injuries and accidents. Install the cables so that they do not present an obstacle to operating the vehicle or to getting into or out of the vehicle. Make sure that no cables can accidentally wrap around the steering wheel, the pedals or any passenger's feet. Tie the cables together. If operating the device inside a vehicle, do not set the volume level too high so that you are still able to hear sounds occurring on the inside and outside of your vehicle. Otherwise accidents can occur. Note DVD players and discs are coded by region. Your DVD player will only play back discs whose region code matches that of the player. The region code of your DVD player is 2 (Europe). Note on copyrights This device is equipped with technology for the protection of copyrights that is protected by patents in the United States of America and by other laws regarding the protection of intellectual property. Use of this copyright protection technology must be approved by Macrovision. This approval is granted exclusively for personal use and other limited visual presentations, unless Macrovision has expressly permitted a more extensive use. Reverse engineering and disassembly are forbidden. Battery Recycling In order to ensure the environmently friendly disposal of batteries, please do NOT dispose of used batteries through normal household waste. Please take the batteries to your local retail or community collection point for recycling. The following may be an indication of a discharged battery: The device cannot be switched on. The device switches off automatically and "Battery Empty" is shown in the display. The device and or battery do not function properly. 4

6 3 Initial Steps 3.1 DVB-T Station Search Initial Installation 1. Connect the DVB-T antenna. Turn the unit on. 2. Press the MODE button to switch to DVB-T mode. 3. Press to select your OSD language and area. For UK select England. 4. Press the OK button to save the new setting. 5. Press the OK button again to resume. 6. Confirm the next prompt with Yes to start automatic station search. Station Search via Menu 1. Turn the unit on and press the MODE button to switch to DVB-T mode (DTV), if necessary. 2. Press to select menu item Digital TV. 3. Press the OK button to access the menu. 4. Press to select menu item Installation. 5. Press to select the desired search procedure. 6. We recommend selecting the option Country scan. 7. Press the OK button to start station search. 8. Press Exit to exit the menu and return to the previous level. If and how many station are received depends on your location and the availability of DVB-T stations in this area. DVB-T radio stations are not everywhere available. Set the area in the system settings for DVB-T mode (chapter System Setup). Caution! that in DVB-T or analog TV mode NO AV output signal is available! 6

7 3.2 Analog TV (ATV) Setup Station Search 1. Connect the unit to cable TV or other analog antenna and turn the unit on. 2. Press the MODE button to switch to analog TV (ATV) mode. 3. OPTION (press the MU button twice) Press the MU button twice and then / to select the desired language. 4. SYSTEM (press the MU button three times) Press the MU button again to set color and sound system for station search. Press the MU button three times in case the menu has closed in the meantime. The unit is configured for use in Germany. In this case points 4 and 5 can be skipped. 5. Press / to select the option and press / to change the value. C-System France: SECAM Rest of Europe: PAL S-System France: L UK: I Germany: B/G 6. PRESET (press the MU button four times) Press the MU button again to access the search and station settings. Press the MU button four times in case the menu has closed in the meantime. 7. The option AUTO-SEARCH is already activated. Press to start station search. Caution! that in DVB-T or analog TV mode NO AV output signal is available! 7

8 3.3 Language Setup The unit comes with three separate menus for language setting. DVD Menu: 1. Press the DVD button to switch to DVD mode. 2. Now press the Setup button. 3. Press to select the menu item Language Setup. 4. Press to select the menu item OSD Language. 5. Mark English to select English as the menu language in the main menu. 6. Press the OK button to confirm each selection. 7. Press EXIT to exit the menu. DVB-T Menu: (This setting is only necessary if not already made during DVB-T initial installation.) 1. For DVB-T mode settings switch to DVB-T mode. 2. Now press the Setup button. 3. Select Digital TV and Configuration. Press the OK button to confirm each selection. 4. Press the OK button again to access the menu item OSD. 5. Select the menu item OSD Language and press to access the country list. 6. Mark English to select English as the menu language in the DVB-T menu. 7. Press the OK button to confirm each selection. 8. Press EXIT to exit the menu. System Menu (Display Setup): (This setting is only necessary if not already made during analog TV station search.) 1. Press the MU button twice to access the system setup. 2. Press / to select the desired language. 8

12 Rotary LCD Display Swivel and Tilt Positions The rotary LCD display is one of the special features of your unit. Follow these steps and familiarize with the correct handling of this function. 1 Tilt the display up in position A (see left) until it stands vertical on the control panel. Pos. A 2 Turn the display horizontally only clockwise. You can turn it up to 180 (Position C). To return to the initial position turn counterclockwise. Pos. B 3 In position C you can flap the display down in position D (see left). Pos. C 4 In end position D the display shows up and the rear rests on the control panel. Pos. D Pictures may deviate! 12

15 Remote Control Operation Place the remote control on a flat surface and insert the supplied batteries as follows Open the battery compartment at the rear. Insert the batteries. Observe the polarity according to the markings. Close the battery compartment again. Battery Specifications Battery type: 2x AAA, 1.5 V Lifespan: approx. 1 year (with normal use at room temperature) Remote Control Use Instructions Point the remote control from max. 3 m distance (from the sensor) in a 30 angle towards the front of the unit. Do not place any obstacles between remote control and sensor; do not place the remote control in direct sunlight. Replace the batteries if the range decreases. Notes about batteries Remove the batteries if the remote control is not used for a longer period of time. Do not heat up or burn batteries. Do not disassemble, deform or modify batteries. 15

16 5 Connections Turn off DVD player, TV set and all other devices to be connected and disconnect from mains power supply. Observe the color-coding when connecting audio and video cables. 5.1 Connect to TV Set (AV Out) Audio/video connections Connect the DVD player as shown via audio/video cable to the TV s audio/video input jacks. VIDEO (YELLOW) AUDIO LEFT (WHITE) AUDIO RIGHT (RED) Caution! that this function is only available in DVD mode! There is NO output signal in DVB-T or analog TV mode! 5.2 Connect to External AV Source (AV In) Connect the DVD player as shown via supplied audio/video cable to the external AV source (e.g. DVD, VCR). Press the AV button on the DVD player. 16

17 Connect the DVD player as shown via audio/video cable to the TV s audio/video input jacks. Press the MODE button to select AV mode. Receiving external audio signals during DVD playback can lead to noise in the speakers. In this case remove the audio cable. 5.3 Connect Earphones Connect your earphones to the earphones jack on the right side of the unit; the speakers are automatically muted. Caution High volume may cause hearing loss. Turn the volume down before connecting the earphones and increase to moderate volume level. 5.4 Connect Antenna Connect the DVB-T antenna or cable TV antenna at the antenna jack on the left side of the unit. The antenna jack is suitable for analog and DVB-T reception. 5.5 Mains Power Adapter A mains power adapter is supplied with the DVD player. Connect the adapter as shown to the DC 9V IN jack on the left side of the unit. Connect the mains plug to an earthed wall outlet. The indicator on the adapter lights up green. Turn the DVD player off before disconnecting from mains power supply. During mains power operation the LCD display is brighter than during battery operation. that the LED on the adapter ONLY indicates the operating status, NOT the battery charge status. 17

18 6 Rechargeable Battery The portable DVD player comes with an integrated Lithium-Ion battery. Please fully charge the battery before first use. Charging time is usually approx. 5 hours. When fully charged the unit operates approx. 2 (DVB-T) to 2.5 (DVD) hours. The actual time of operation also depends on the used disc type. Fully charge the battery before the unit is not used for a longer period of time. 6.1 Handling Rechargeable Batteries Fully charge a new rechargeable battery. Only use rechargeable batteries at temperatures between 0 C and 40 C. Do not expose rechargeable batteries to high temperatures or direct sunlight. Do not throw rechargeable batteries into fire or water. Ensure adequate air circulation around the unit. Do not place the unit on soft surfaces, such as sofas, carpets and the like. Do not short-circuit the contacts. Do not disassemble the rechargeable battery. In charging mode the indicator lights up red if the unit is turned off. After the charging process is completed it lights up green. In on mode the LED lights up orange when charging. With low battery status WARNING LOW BATTERY is displayed. Some minutes later the DVD player will automatically turn off.. Only charge the battery in off mode. This significantly decreases the charging time and extends the lifespan of the battery. Fully charge the battery before first use. Caution Do not touch the contacts with metal objects. This will turn the battery into standby mode. To exit standby mode connect the DVD player with attached battery to power supply. 6.2 Charge Battery Use the supplied mains power adapter for charging the battery. Connect the adapter to the DVD player as described in chapter 4.5. 19 7 DVB-T Functions Set the display to 4:3 or 16:9 to watch programs without distortion. See chapter that some movies are recorded in 21:9 format; these will show a black bar on top and bottom of a 16:9 screen. Ensure that DVB-T stations are available in your area. DVB-T radio stations are only available in limited numbers in limited areas. Depending on area and building type it may be necessary to use a stronger antenna. The supplied antenna is only suitable for close proximity stations. Reception can be impaired if your building contains a large amount of metal or the station is situated on the opposite side of the building. that this is no defect of this unit. Suitable antennas are available from your specialized dealer. Caution! that no AV output signal is available in DVB-T or analog TV mode! Turn the unit on and follow these steps. Please observe chapter 2 for setup and station search. 7.1 TV Channel Selection Press the MODE button to select DVB-T mode. Press or CH+ and CH- to access the stored TV channels in sequence. Set the volume with the volume control on the right side of the unit. Change the volume with the corresponding remote control buttons. 7.2 Program List 1 Press the OK button. 2 3 Press / to select the desired program and press OK to confirm. In case you divided the stations into categories press / to toggle between the categories. See chapter for dividing the stations into categories. 19

20 7.3 Advanced DVB-T Functions TV/RAD Button (TV/Radio) Press the TV/RAD button to toggle between DVB-T TV and DVB-T radio. DVB-T radio is only available in very few areas. EPG Button (Electronic Program Guide) Press the EPG button to access the following menu: Press / / / to select stations and programs for EPG display. EPG Button Configuration Button / / / ZOOM (Red) REPEAT (Yellow) ANGLE (Blue) A-B (Green) Function Select stations and programs. EPG display daily. Access detail information for a selected program. Press navigation buttons to select a program. Access timer setup. The timer allows you to program the unit to automatically access the station at program start. In this way also timecontrolled recordings are possible. See chapter EPG display weekly. SUB Button (Subtitle) Press the SUB button to display subtitle information of a program. This function is only available if the corresponding information is broadcast; commonly this is not the case. Audio Button Press the AUDIO button to select the audio language of the program. Press / to select the soundtrack, if available. Press / to select between stereo, left or right audio channel. This function is only available if the corresponding information is broadcast; commonly this is not the case. 20

21 TTX Button (Teletext) 1 Press the TTX button. 2 Press the OK button to activate the teletext function of the current station. 3 Navigate the teletext pages as follows: Access index page 100 pages up One page up One page down Function of color buttons is displayed. 4 Press the EXIT button to return to normal TV operation. Teletext is only available in DVB-T mode. FAV Button (Favorite List) Press the FAV button to access the favorite list. See chapter to include stations in the favorite list. INFO Button (Program Info) Press the INFO button to display information for the current program. Press again to display further information. This information is also displayed when changing the program. You can set the display duration in the system setup (DVB Digital TV Configuration OSD - OSD Timeout). REPEAT Button, yellow (Recording List) Press the REPEAT button to display all recordings. Press / to select a recording and press the OK button to start playback. See chapter EXIT Button (Program Info) Press the EXIT button to return to the previous station. Button (Freeze Frame) Press (Play) to display a freeze frame. Press again to resume playback. This is no pause function. The current program is not interrupted. The freeze frame cannot be saved. 21

22 7.4 Media Playback in DVB-T Mode Connect a USB stick or insert an SD memory card (see following picture). Ensure that the USB stick or the SD card contains playable data. 1. Only connect the storage device in off mode. 2. Turn the unit on and press MODE to select DVB-T mode. 3. Press the SETUP button to access the menu. 4. Press / to select Photo, Music or Movie mode and press the OK button to confirm. 5. Select the media to be used [Card (sde0), USB (sda1)]. 6. Select the file for playback and press the OK button to confirm. 7. Press the EXIT button to return to file selection. 8. Press the SETUP button to return step by step to the main menu. Compatible formats: Audio: mp3 Video: avi, mpg, vob Photo: jpg You cannot use the USB port to connect a digital camera or other USB devices. that video playback of large files can be impaired. Memory cards and USB devices with up to 8GB can be connected. Due to different file formats not all files (even in detected formats) can be played. Caution In video mode only movies, in music mode only music files and in photo mode only images can be displayed! Please connect external memory only when the device is turned off. 22

23 7.4.1 Photo Display 9. Insert an SD/MMC memory card with photos in JPG format into the card slot or connect appropriate USB media. 10. Access the menu as described before and select option Photo ; press the OK button to confirm. 11. Select the media with the photos and press the OK button again to confirm. 12. Press to select the folder on the storage media and press the OK button to access. 13. Select a photo and press the OK button again. 14. Press / to access the previous/next photo. 15. Press the OK button to start the slide show. Image Rotation Press to rotate the displayed image. Press to rotate the displayed image clockwise. Press to rotate the displayed image counter-clockwise. Press to mirror the displayed image horizontally. Press to mirror the displayed image vertically. For some images the rotate and zoom functions are not available. You may have to change the setup under Configuration System setup JPEG effect. 23

24 7.4.2 Video File, MP3 Playback 1. Insert an SD/MMC memory card containing MP3 or supported video files into the card slot or connect appropriate USB media. 2. Follow the instructions on the disc Handling of Discs Handling Do not touch the playback surface when inserting or removing the disc (see picture). Do not stick labels on discs. Cleaning Fingerprints and other contaminations reduce sound and image quality. Only use a soft cloth for cleaning; for stubborn dirt dampen the cloth with a mild detergent. Do not wipe in circles (interference/noise); carefully wipe from the center to the edge (see picture). Storage Tips Do not expose discs to direct sunlight or high temperatures. 27

28 10.3 Startup in DVD Mode Connect the unit via the supplied mains power adapter to a wall outlet. Set the POWER ON/OFF switch on the left side of the unit to ON position. Remove the transport lock from the DVD drive. Open the DVD compartment and insert a disc with the label facing up; close the disc compartment again. Ensure that DVD mode is selected. The DVD player automatically starts disc playback. Set the volume with VOL+/VOL-. Ensure that the volume was set before on the unit. Operation You can control the unit with the buttons on the unit or with the remote control. With the remote control you have advanced functions. ZOOM button For DVDs cycle through 2x, 3x, 4x, 1/2, 1/3, 1/4 zoom. This function is not available for CDs. Many DVDs show black bars at top and bottom of the screen, even though set to 16:9 format. Depending on the DVD adjust the TV TYPE in the DVD system setup (see chapter ). 28

29 DVD Playback Set the display to 4:3 or 16:9 to watch videos without distortion. See chapter that some movies are recorded in 21:9 format; these will show a black bar on top and bottom of a 16:9 screen. Start playback PLAY/PAUSE Insert a disc. The DVD player starts playback automatically. Press in the DVD menu to select the desired feature and press the OK button on the player or on the remote control to confirm. In playback mode press once to pause playback. Press again to resume playback. STOP In playback mode press once to stop playback; press to resume playback. In playback mode press twice to finally stop playback; press to restart playback from the beginning of the disc. DVD MU Display the DVD menu. Press (0-9 on the remote control) to select the desired feature and press the OK button on the player or on the remote control to confirm. Press once to skip to the beginning of the current track or chapter. Press twice to skip to the beginning of the previous track or chapter. Skip to the beginning of the next track or chapter. Repeatedly press to cycle through the following settings: SUBTITLE 1/N: Subtitle 1 is displayed. SUBTITLE 2/N: Subtitle 2 is displayed. SUBTITLE */N: Subtitle * is displayed. SUBTITLE OFF: No subtitle. N is a placeholder for the total of stored subtitle languages. This function is only available for DVDs with several subtitle languages. 30 GOTO ANGLE Select a position (time, track or title) to start playback. Press to select the desired option. Enter the time with the numeric buttons 0-9 and press the OK button to confirm. Press GOTO again to return to normal playback. Press to cycle through the available camera angles of the same scene (see picture). TITLE This function is only available for DVDs recorded with several camera angles. DVDs are often divided into several titles with several menus. During playback press TITLE to display the title menu. Press or the numeric buttons 0-9 to select the desired option. Press the OK button to confirm. Press on the remote control to select a file. Confirm your selection with OK on the remote control or on the remote control or on the DVD player. Press to return to the previous directory. Alternatively move the yellow cursor to the icon. Confirm your selection with OK on the remote control or on the DVD player. Many CDs contain also other data besides photo files. 37 11 Recording Functions This unit does not have an internal memory. An SD memory card or USB device must be connected to record. Ensure that the connected media has enough free memory. SD cards and USB devices up to 8GB can be used. Only use FAT32 file system. Caution! Do not use HDDs; they are generally not suitable for recordings with this unit. Only use USB2.0 high-speed media or high-speed SD cards (150x). Ensure that the connected media are not write-protected Recording DVB-T Programs Insert an SD card into the card slot or connect a USB device. Select the desired DVB-T channel and press the REC button to start recording. Alternatively you can press the OK key at the main unit for approx. 3-5 seconds to start recording. Press the button and select Yes to stop recording. The unit creates a folder PVR on the card to save the recordings. Recording format is MPG. The file name of the recording depends on the selected channel and the recording time. Recording format is MPG. The file name of the recording depends on the channel number and the recording date. Insert an SD card into the card slot or connect a USB device and load an Audio CD. Press the MODE button to select DVD mode. Press the SUB button to access the conversion function. Options: Speed Bit rate Create ID3 Tag Create Playlist 1x Normal speed. Listen to CD while copying. 2x Double speed. Only copying, no listening. Set bit rate for converted MP3 file. The higher the bit rate, the higher the sound quality of the MP3 files. Additional ID3 Tag information, if available. Additional ID3 Tag playback information, if available. Tracks Display available CD tracks for conversion. Select the tracks with the navigation buttons and confirm with the OK button. Start Start conversion Press the OK button to start the conversion.
