2 USING your TING pen 1 On/off and play/pause switch To switch on or off hold down for 2 seconds. Press briefly to start or pause the audio. 2 Volume switch Press + or to turn the volume up or down. 3 3 Speaker Amplifies the audio Optical sensor Put the tip of the pen onto TING coded text or artwork to hear the audio. 5 Reset button Press briefly, with the end of a paperclip, before switching off the pen to restore factory settings. Switch on the pen afterwards and it will be ready to use again. 6 Socket for headphones 8 7 Mini USB socket For linking the TING pen to a computer with internet access for downloading/updating TING content and/or recharging the inbuilt battery. 1 8 LED light Green = on; red flashing light indicates battery needs recharging. 4

3 To activate your TING pen The TING web page Press the on-off switch on your pen until you can hear the TING on/off tune. New TING-Technology: Simply touch pictures or words with the tip of your TING pen and you will hear sounds or spoken word. Activate TING here! TING. Audio pen. When doing this for the first time you will be prompted to connect the TING pen to a computer. Before doing so, make sure your computer is already connected to the internet. Then connect the TING pen to your computer using the orange USB cable. When doing this for the first time your computer will run a hardware recognition check. As soon as that s done you can run your TING programme. A download of all available TING content will commence automatically. Leave the TING pen connected to your computer until the download has finished. You will see a prompt on screen. Your pen is now ready for use. The content of all TING books whose activation logos were touched with your pen prior to linking TING to a computer with internet, will be downloaded automatically. Please note Touch the activation logo on a book to check if the content is already stored on your pen. You will hear a tune if it is. TING content remains stored on the pen. However, you can delete content (to free up memory space, for instance). Simply connect your pen to a computer that is connected to the internet; you will automatically be connected to the TING programme. Follow the instructions it s easy. Should you find an error in your audio content (for instance, if audio doesn t correspond to the text on the page) simply reconnect TING to a computer with internet, and download an automatic update. Using the TING web page you can easily manage/update all your TING audio files. TING has a memory capacity of 1 GB. As soon as you link TING to a computer that is connected to the internet you can enter the TING web page. Minimum requirements: A PC or Mac with Intel x86 compatible processor Windows (XP/Vista/Windows 7) or Mac OS X (10.4.x 10.7.x) A USB connection Internet access Please note From time to time TING will check for content updates when connected to the internet. When applicable, an automatic download will take place. However, any new version will only be ready to use when you have activated the update. (You will receive a prompt.) Once complete you will have to disconnect the pen from your computer before you can use a new update. 4 The TING web page You can search for your TING products here. Choose your display mode here. Here you can find all your stored TING products. While a download is in progress you can see sample pages here. For a more in-depth description please visit our TING portal: You can stop and restart a download here. You can tell how much has been downloaded. You can see how much memory space is left on your pen. If you want to delete a TING product simply drag the book cover into the bin.

5 Important When not in use or connected to a computer, the TING pen switches off automatically after 5 minutes of idleness. The TING pen contains no replaceable parts don t open it using force. Don t leave the TING pen exposed to direct sunlight, or other heat sources, or submerged in water. Clean the TING pen using a dry cloth. The TING pen is best used in temperatures between 5 C and 40 C. If the TING battery is empty a red light flashes. Recharge the battery by connecting the TING pen to your computer using the USB cable supplied. When the pen is fully recharged a steady green light replaces the flashing indicator.
