1 Product Transition Notification Dear Customer, This is an official notification of a design change in the Profile product line. The change introduced here will become effective on August 1, The flat capacitive touch screens that constitute our Profile product line are being modified as follows: The Profile touch screens will change in appearance, as the dielectric layer that protects the pattern on the perimeter of the screen changes from dark and opaque to clear and translucent. The optical and functional characteristics of the screen s viewing area will remain unchanged. This change is being implemented now to meet the requirements of the Waste of Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) and Restriction of Hazardous Substance (RoHS) Directives. Although these European environmental regulations will not be fully implemented until 2006, 3M Touch Systems is making the necessary changes today. The enclosed pages provide you the facts associated with this touch screen change and the part numbers affected. 2 Transition Facts Starting on August 1, 2003, all Profile touch screens will be manufactured per a new design that alters their overall material composition. This change is being implemented now to meet the requirements of the Waste of Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) and Restriction of Hazardous Substance (RoHS) Directives. Although these European environmental regulations will not be fully implemented until 2006, 3M Touch Systems is making the necessary changes today. What is changing The new dielectric material that protects the electrode pattern on the perimeter of the touch screen has a clear and translucent appearance. The Revision level of all Profile touch screen part numbers will be increased by one point (i.e. from 2.2 to 2.3), to indicate that the design has been modified. What is not changing The optical and functional specification associated with the active area of the touch screen is not being modified. The overall dimensions of the touch screen are not altered. The chemical protective properties of the dielectric layer remain the same, helping ensure that the product will not be affected adversly by typical cleaning agents or other chemicals typically found around touch screen applications. The part numbers for the touch screens are not changing; only their revision level. The new Profile touch screens will be compatible with the existing 3M Touch Systems electronics and software. The warranty and procurement terms and conditions for the product remain unchanged. Note During the months of August and September customers may experience shipments of mixed material, while safety inventories of the original design are consumed.
