5 Safety 3 Safety The device has been constructed according to the latest valid regulations governing technology and is operationally reliable. It has been tested and left the factory in a technically safe and reliable state. However, residual hazards remain. Read and adhere to the safety instructions to prevent hazards of this kind. Busch-Jaeger accepts no liability for any failure to observe the safety instructions. 3.1 Information and symbols used The following Instructions point to particular hazards involved in the use of the device or provide practical instructions. Danger Risk of death / serious damage to health The respective warning symbol in connection with the signal word "Danger" indicates an imminently threatening danger which leads to death or serious (irreversible) injuries. Warning Serious damage to health The respective warning symbol in connection with the signal word "Warning" indicates a threatening danger which can lead to death or serious (irreversible) injuries. Caution Damage to health The respective warning symbol in connection with the signal word "Caution" indicates a danger which can lead to minor (irreversible) injuries. Attention Damage to property This symbol in connection with the signal word "Attention" indicates a situation which could cause damage to the product itself or to objects in its surroundings. 6 Safety 3.2 Intended use This device is a radio for flush-mounted installation. The device is part of the Busch- AudioWorld system. The device is intended for the following: Operation according to the listed technical data, Installation in dry interior rooms and suitable flush-mounted boxes, Use with the connecting options available on the device. The intended use also includes adherence to all specifications in this manual. 3.3 Improper use Each use not listed in Chapter 3.2 Intended use on page 6 is deemed improper use and can lead to personal injury and damage to property. Busch-Jaeger is not liable for damages caused by use deemed contrary to the intended use of the device. The associated risk is borne exclusively by the user/operator. The device is not intended for the following: Unauthorized structural changes Repairs Outdoor use The use in bathroom areas 6

7 Safety 3.4 Target group / Qualifications of personnel Operation No special qualifications are needed to operate the device Installation, commissioning and maintenance Installation, commissioning and maintenance of the device must only be carried out by trained and properly qualified electrical installers. The electrical installer must have read and understood the manual and follow the instructions provided. The electrical installer must adhere to the valid national regulations in his/her country governing the installation, functional test, repair and maintenance of electrical products. The electrical installer must be familiar with and correctly apply the "five safety rules" (DIN VDE 0105, EN 50110): 1. Disconnect 2. Secure against being re-connected 3. Ensure there is no voltage 4. Connect to earth and short-circuit 5. Cover or barricade adjacent live parts 7

8 Safety 3.5 Safety instructions Danger - Electric voltage! Electric voltage! Risk of death and fire due to electric voltage of 230 V. Dangerous currents flow through the body when coming into direct or indirect contact with live components. This can result in electric shock, burns or even death. Work on the 230 V supply system may only be performed by authorised and qualified electricians. Disconnect the mains power supply before installation / disassembly. Never use the device with damaged connecting cables. Do not open covers firmly bolted to the housing of the device. Use the device only in a technically faultless state. Do not make changes to or perform repairs on the device, on its components or its accessories. Keep the device away from water and wet surroundings. Caution! - Risk of damaging the device due to external factors! Moisture and contamination can damage the device. Protect the device against humidity, dirt and damage during transport, storage and operation. 8

9 Information on protection of the environment 4 Information on protection of the environment 4.1 Environment Consider the protection of the environment! Used electric and electronic devices must not be disposed of with domestic waste. The device contains valuable raw materials which can be recycled. Therefore, dispose of the device at the appropriate collecting depot. All packaging materials and devices bear the markings and test seals for proper disposal. Always dispose of the packaging material and electric devices and their components via the authorized collecting depots and disposal companies. The products meet the legal requirements, in particular the laws governing electronic and electrical devices and the REACH ordinance. (EU Directive 2012/19/EU WEEE and 2011/65/EU RoHS) (EU REACH ordinance and law for the implementation of the ordinance (EC) No.1907/2006). 9

12 Connection, installation / mounting 7 Connection, installation / mounting Danger - Electric voltage! Risk of death due to electrical voltage of 230 V during short-circuit in the lowvoltage line. Low-voltage and 230 V cables must not be installed together in a flushmounted socket! 7.1 Requirements for the electrician Danger - Electric voltage! Install the device only if you have the necessary electrical engineering knowledge and experience. Incorrect installation endangers your life and that of the user of the electrical system. Incorrect installation can cause serious damage to property, e.g. due to fire. The minimum necessary expert knowledge and requirements for the installation are as follows: Apply the "five safety rules" (DIN VDE 0105, EN 50110): 1. Disconnect 2. Secure against being re-connected 3. Ensure there is no voltage 4. Connect to earth and short-circuit 5. Cover or barricade adjacent live parts. Use suitable personal protective clothing. Use only suitable tools and measuring devices. Check the type of supply network (TN system, IT system, TT system) to secure the following power supply conditions (classic connection to ground, protective earthing, necessary additional measures, etc.). 12

13 Connection, installation / mounting 7.2 Mounting/dismantling Caution! The device can sustain damage when coming into contact with hard objects! The plastic parts of the device are sensitive. Pull the attachment off only with your hands. Do not lever parts off with screwdrivers or similar hard objects. The flush-mounted insert must only be installed in flush-mounted wall boxes according to DIN , Part 1, or suitable surface-mounted housings. To mount the device, perform the following steps: 1. Pull the attachment off. If the device is already mounted or assembled, pull off the attachment from the flushmounted insert with the aid of the frame. Pull the attachment off only with your hands! Do not lever parts off with screwdrivers or similar hard objects. This damages the device. When pulling off, first the resistance of the spring clamps must be overcome. 13

14 Connection, installation / mounting 2. Connect the loudspeaker cables and signal lines to the flush-mounted insert. Both connecting terminals are plug-in terminals. Ensure that the plug-in connection on the rear side does not get jammed. If mounting is difficult, check whether a burr has formed at the lock-in opening of the flushmounted insert and remove it. The device is now mounted. To dismantle the device, perform the following steps: Dismantling is carried out in the reverse order to mounting. Loosen the terminals of the loudspeaker cables and signal lines on the flush-mounted insert with the aid of a screwdriver. Press the terminal fixture into the device and pull the cable out. 16 Connection, installation / mounting 7.3 Electrical connection Loudspeaker For MONO mode, the loudspeaker can be connected to the left (L- / L+) or right (R- / R+) connecting terminals. 17 Commissioning 8 Commissioning The setup for commissioning is the same as after a reset of the device (see chapter RESET (resetting the device) on page 57). The description of the setup is available in Chapter Settings Overview of setup menus on page

18 9 Operation 9.1 Operating modes The device has three operating modes. Standby The device is in standby. 20 9.2.3 Adjusting the volume Use the following steps to adjust the volume: Fig. 15: 2 3 Adjusting the volume 1. During normal operation press the buttons "MINUS" [1] or "PLUS" [2]. The device adjusts the volume. In Bluetooth mode the volume cannot be adjusted fully down. You would not hear anything from your connected multimedia device if you wish to adjust the volume from there Selecting the station Use the following steps to change a station: Fig. 16: 1 Changing stations 1. Activate the "PROG" [1] button. The device switches to the next preset station. Eight positions are available for preset stations. When changing to the next station, first the station's frequency is displayed. And several seconds later the station (RDS). The station has been changed. 20

21 9.2.5 Operating Bluetooth Bluetooth allows data transmission between devices over a short distance. Your device uses this technology to receive and play digital music data, which are being sent from your smartphone, for example. Coupling and connecting the device Use the following steps to couple and connect the Bluetooth function: Fig. 17: Bluetooth ready The Bluetooth function is located on radio station Press button "PROG" [3] as often as required until you have changed to radio station 9. The current radio station number [1] is shown at the top right-hand in the display. After changing to the Bluetooth function it is ready for operation. The Bluetooth icon [2] flashes. Fig. 18: Multimedia device 2. Connect the Bluetooth-capable device to the Busch-Radio BTconnect. Navigate in the multimedia device into the Bluetooth settings. Depending on the multimedia device, the available Bluetooth devices will be displayed automatically. If not, allow the multimedia device to search for them. Select the Busch-Radio BTconnect that is displayed and couple and connect the devices. The connection is always established starting from the multimedia device. A connection cannot be established from the Busch-Radio BTconnect. 21

22 The Bluetooth icon is displayed permanently. 3. Play the music you have selected on the multimedia device. The Busch-Radio BTconnect plays the selected music. Fig. 19: Bluetooth active Coupling and connecting the device via NFC NFC Near Field Communication Near Field Communication Table 3: Glossary NFC permits the exchange of data over a distance of a few cm. This technology has the ability to exchange data keys. This dispenses with manual coupling and connecting. If your device is NFC-capable, this is how it can be coupled and connected with the Busch- Radio BTconnect. Use the following steps to couple and connect the devices with the aid of NFC: 1. Glide your Bluetooth-capable device slowly and at a minimal distance over the Busch-Radio BTconnect. The Busch-Radio BTconnect switches automatically into the Bluetooth mode. The devices will be coupled and connected. The Bluetooth icon is displayed permanently. 2. Play the music you have selected on the multimedia device. The Busch-Radio BTconnect plays the selected music. Fig. 20: Bluetooth coupling with NFC NOTE This function must be activated on your device for the coupling and connecting process. 22

23 Instructions and the rectification of problems for your Bluetooth operation Information about Bluetooth operation Depending on the model, the loudspeakers on the multimedia device for playing music have been deactivated while it is connected to the Busch-Radio BTconnect. After connection, the volume of the Busch-Radio BTconnect is additionally controlled via the volume control of your multimedia device. If you deactivate the volume or turn it down, you will not hear anything on the Busch- Radio BTconnect. Coupling devices: The devices are "joined" together. Each one of the other devices is stored in a list. Only the stored devices can establish a connection. Connecting devices: The coupled devices are connected and exchange data. Time out: The connection is automatically disconnected after 5 minutes without any connection data. After leaving the house, for example. The connection is automatically disconnected after the change to a radio station on the Busch-Radio BTconnect. Rectification of problems for Bluetooth operation If the Bluetooth icon is permanently displayed on the Busch-Radio BTconnect, the multimedia device is connected. Nothing can be heard on the Busch-Radio BTconnect. The multimedia device is switched off. The mute function on the multimedia device has been activated. The volume on the multimedia device has been turned down to "Zero". The player software on the multimedia device in pause mode. This could be the case especially after the connection has been temporarily disrupted. The connection was disrupted for more than 5 minutes. The connection is no longer maintained after five minutes. In this case the Bluetooth icon on the Busch-Radio BTconnect flashes. You are at the boundary of the transmission range. While the signal is still strong enough to maintain the connection, it is too weak to transmit sufficient data for playing music. The multimedia device cannot be connected, even though the Busch-Radio BTconnect is displayed in the Bluetooth settings. A different multimedia device is already connected to the Busch-Radio BTconnect. Disconnect and uncouple the connected multimedia device in the Busch-Radio BTconnect, see chapter Menu "Bluetooth" "Disconnect device" on page 39 and see chapter Menu "Bluetooth" "Uncoupling all devices" on page 40. You must then couple and connect your device again because the list of coupled devices stored in the Busch-Radio BTconnect has been deleted. 23

24 The connection via NFC does not work. You are guiding your multimedia device to quickly over the Busch-Radio BTconnect. Your multimedia device is again outside the transmission range before the connection process has been completed. This interrupts the connection process. You are using a plastic protective cover for your multimedia device. Many protective covers contain metal particles which distort the radio signals. Try to establish the connection without a protective cover. Your multimedia device is not NFC-capable (e.g. Apple device). 24

25 9.2.6 Busch idock / AUX (My player) Fig. 21: Busch-iDock / AUX With the Busch-iDock you can play music from your iphone, ipod or a different player via the device and loudspeakers. A different player can be connected via the lateral jack socket of the Busch-iDock. NOTE For its use the AUX input must be activated in the settings, see chapter Menu "Settings" "AUX input" on page 48. To use this function the Busch-iDock station must be connected and available. Additional information on the Busch-iDock is available at Use the following steps to connect a player: 1. Ensure that an Busch-iDock station is available! 2. Connect an iphone, an ipod, or a different player. Select the suitable connecting option: 1 [1] Connection for Apple devices (only for ipod, iphone) [2] Jack socket (for other players) 2 Fig. 22: Busch-iDock Station As soon as the player is recognized, the device shows "Busch-iDock" in the display. 3. Select your desired music from your ipod, iphone or a different player. 4. Then select "Play". You will hear the music you have selected. 25

26 9.2.7 Sleep function (turn-off time) Fig. 23: Sleep function By switching on the sleep function the device is automatically switched off after a preset time. This function can only be called up when the radio is switched on. Use the following steps to activate or deactivate the sleep function: Activating the sleep function 1. Press the "ON" button for at least 3 seconds. 2. Set the minutes with the "PLUS / MINUS" buttons. The setting is made in "5 minute" steps (up to a maximum of 60 minutes). 3. Confirm the minutes by pressing the "PROG" button. The "Stopwatch" icon appears in the display after the confirmation. Deactivating the sleep function 1 Switch the radio off. The "Stopwatch" icon goes out after the switch-off. 26

27 9.3 Extended operation The change to extended operation is only possible when the radio is switched on. Use the following steps to change into extended operation: 1. Switch the radio on. 2. Press the "PROG" button for at least three seconds. 30 9.3.4 Menu "Timer" - "Alarm clock" Fig. 31: Menu item "Alarm clock" The menu is located in menu level "Timer". The alarm call function is operated via this menu. Use the following steps to set, activate and deactivate the alarm call function: 1. Switch to menu "Timer". 2. Switch to menu item "Alarm clock". 3. Set the value for the "Alarm hour". Alarm hour describes the time specified between 0 to 24 hours. 4. Confirm the "Alarm hour". The menu automatically switches to the next setting option. 5. Set the value for the "Alarm minute". Alarm minute describes the time specified between 0 to 59 minutes. 6. Confirm the "Alarm minute". The menu automatically switches to the next setting option. 30

31 7. Switch to menu item "Activate" or "Deactivate". Activation: Confirm the activation of the alarm call function with the "PROG" button. The display shows the "ON" status with the "Alarm clock" icon. Deactivation: Confirm the deactivation of the alarm call function with the "PROG" button. The alarm call function is deactivated. The "Alarm clock" icon goes out. Fig. 32: Main display - alarm clock has been set Stop alarm clock / Snooze The alarm clock starts: When the alarm clock starts the display flashes and the alarm tone gets louder and louder. The alarm tone stops with a press on the "ON / OFF" button. The alarm clock is switched into the snooze function with a press on the "PROG" button. The alarm clock starts again after 5 minutes. 31

32 9.3.5 Menu "Timer" "Short-time timer" (Egg timer / Countdown) Fig. 33: Menu item "Short-time timer". The menu is located in menu level "Timer". This menu is used to set a time which starts counting backwards after the start of the function (similar to a countdown or an egg timer). A signal sounds when the time has expired. To set, start or stop the timer, carry out the following steps: 1. Switch to menu "Timer". 2. Switch to menu item "Short-time timer". 3. Set the value for the "Short-time timer minutes". Short-time timer minutes describes the time between 0 to 59 minutes. 4. Confirm the "Short-time timer minutes". The menu automatically switches to the next setting option "Start short-time timer". 32

33 5. Switch to menu item "Yes" or "No". Yes: Confirm the activation of the short-time timer with the "PROG" button. The display shows the "ON" status with the "Hourglass" icon. No: Confirm the deactivation of the short-time timer with the "PROG" button. The short-time timer has been deactivated. The "Hourglass" icon goes out. NOTE When you have set the "Short-time timer" and activated it, the "Short-time timer" icon is not displayed! The Short-time timer icon will appear in the display after you exit the main display. The alarm tone stops with a press on the "ON / OFF" or "PROG" button. 33

34 9.3.6 Menu "Timer" "Specifying alarm tones" Fig. 35: Menu item "Alarm tones" The menu is located in menu level "Timer". This menu item is used to select an alarm tone for the alarm clock and the short-time timer. Use the following steps to select the alarm tone: 1. Switch to menu "Timer". 2. Switch to menu item "Alarm tones". The display shows the selection for the alarm clock. 3. For the alarm clock, switch between the selection "Alarm tone" or "Radio". 4. Confirm the "Selection" for the alarm clock. The display shows the selection for the short-time timer. 5. For the short-time timer, switch between the selection "Alarm tone" or "Radio". 6. Confirm the "Selection" for the short-time timer. The alarm tones are set and the menu switches automatically to the timer menu level. 34

35 9.3.7 Menu "Station" "Setting stations manually" Fig. 36: Menu item "Setting stations manually" The menu is located in menu level "Stations". This menu is used to set your desired stations manually. Use the following steps to set the stations manually: 1. Switch to menu "Stations". 2. Switch to menu item "Setting stations manually" 3. Search for the suitable radio frequencies with the "plus / minus" buttons. Tip: If you keep the "plus / minus" button pressed for approximately 5 seconds, the next most powerful station will be displayed. If you switch to a transmitter frequency which has already been stored, the current memory location is displayed under the transmitter frequency. 4. Confirm your manual selection of the station with the "PROG" button. 5. Search for a memory location (location 1-8) with "plus / minus buttons. If this location is already occupied, it will be overwritten when the new selection is confirmed. 6. Confirm the selection with the "PROG" button. After confirming the memory location the station and the memory location is shown on the display. Starting from this display, search for additional suitable radio frequencies with the "plus / minus" buttons. 35

This menu is used to set your desired stations with an automatic search mode for stations. Use the following steps to set the stations automatically: 1. Switch to menu "Stations". 2. Switch to menu item "Automatic search mode". The automatic search mode occupies memory locations 1-8 without any further interruption. Stations which have already been stored will be deleted. The status display indicates the progress of the automatic search mode. After completion of the automatic search mode the radio returns to standard operation. 36

37 9.3.9 Menu "Stations" - "Deleting stations" Fig. 38: Menu item "Deleting stations" The menu is located in menu level "Station". This menu is used to delete stations. Use the following steps to delete a station: 1. Switch to menu "Station". 2. Switch to menu item "Deleting stations". 3. Use the "plus / minus" buttons to switch to the memory location of the station to be deleted. 4. Delete the memory location of the station. Press the "PROG" button for at least three seconds. The memory location will be deleted without any further enquiry. 37

38 Menu "Stations" - "Exchanging stations" Fig. 39: Menu item "Exchanging stations" The menu is located in menu level "Station". This menu is used to exchange the stations between two locations. The rest of the stored stations remain in their location. Use the following steps to exchange stations: 1. Switch to menu "Station". 2. Switch to menu item "Exchanging stations". 3. Use the "plus / minus" buttons to switch to the memory location of the station to be exchanged. 4. Use the "PROG" button to confirm the memory location of the station to be exchanged. The display switches to the first available target memory location. The station to be exchanged is displayed above the target memory location. 5. Use the "plus / minus" buttons to switch to the desired target memory location of the station. 6. Use the "PROG" button to confirm the target memory location. The station to be exchanged is now located on the new memory location. The station that was previously located there is now at the old memory location. 38

This menu is used to disconnect a Bluetooth device from the radio. Cutting the connection: Use the following steps to cut the connection: 1. Switch to menu "Bluetooth". 2. Switch to menu item "Disconnect". 3. Confirm the disconnection with the "PROG" button. The Bluetooth device will be disconnected. The Bluetooth device remains stored in the list of devices which have already been connected. 39

This menu is used to delete the connection data from the list of Bluetooth devices which have already been connected. After deleting the connection data, Bluetooth devices which have previously been connected with the radio must be re-coupled before connecting them, see chapter Coupling and connecting the device on page 21. Use the following steps to uncouple the Bluetooth devices. 1. Switch to menu "Bluetooth". 2. Switch to menu item "Uncoupling devices". 3. Confirm the uncoupling of the stored Bluetooth devices with the "PROG" button. The data of the connected Bluetooth devices will be deleted. 40

41 Settings Overview of setup menus The setup is carried out automatically during initial commissioning or when resetting the settings (see chapter RESET (resetting the device) on page 57). In the functions of area "Settings" the device switches automatically to the next function after a function has been confirmed. If certain functions are not relevant for you, you can change to the next function by pressing the "plus or minus" button. 57 RESET (resetting the device) If you wish to delete all the settings you have made and to re-enter them, the device must first be fully reset to its state at the point of delivery. The device switches to the "Reset" function. 2. Confirm your selection with the "PROG" button. The device switches to the "Setup" function. All settings of your device have now been reset. 3. 58 Maintenance 10 Maintenance 10.1 Cleaning Caution! - Risk of damaging the device! When spraying on cleaning agents, these can enter the device through crevices. Do not spray cleaning agents directly onto the device. Aggressive cleaning agents can damage the surface of the device. Never use caustic agents, abrasive agents or solvents. Clean dirty devices with a soft dry cloth. If this is insufficient, the cloth can be moistened slightly with a soap solution. 58
