They offer high quality surround sound that are widely adopted by movie theaters and production studios. Pulse Code Modulation (PCM) format comes in both stereo and multichannel signal. It is another common audio format that contains a decoded audio signal from Dolby or DTS audio. It provides better compatibility across different devices. However, it is not the best format to experience the intended surround sound effect by the producers. HDMI vs Optical/Coaxial HDMI is the most advanced digital connection available for home audio and video products. It is commonly found on premium soundbars with multiple inputs for connecting content devices. It has higher bandwidth to transfer high quality video format (4K UHD) and high quality multi-channel audio. Additionally, HDMI supports Audio Return Channel (ARC) for TV connection. You can send video and audio signal from soundbar to TV, and receive audio signal from TV to soundbar in a single HDMI ARC connection. (See Page 11 for more information about different HDMI versions) Optical and Coaxial connections are both in digital format for audio transmission. However, it has lower transmission bandwidth compared to HDMI. Its output is restricted to Dolby Digital and DTS Digital Surround in 5.1 bitstream signal only. The lower bandwidth also restricts the PCM option in a 2-channel signal only. ii. Bluetooth vs WiFi Soundbar can be a good living room speaker with Bluetooth wireless connection that supports most of the mobile devices with all kinds of content. There are some soundbars featuring Bluetooth with aptx codec for higher quality Bluetooth audio that sounds almost as good as wired connection. WiFi connection is increasingly popular in the soundbar market.
