1 RICH CLIENT SUPPORT PROJECT DEPLOYMENT USING HATS TOOLKIT 7.0 This paper intends to show how to deploy a Rich Client Support application in HATS Toolkit 7.0. Deploying HATS rich client applications In order to deploy a HATS rich client application (RCP) following are the methods available: Packaging for new Eclipse client distribution Packaging for client that already has an Eclipse based environment Moreover, in this white paper we will also see how to Create an update site Update plug-in & feature version Follow the steps below to deploy the application. Step 1. Create the Product Packaging for New Eclipse Client 1. In order to Export a RCP based application, Open File Menu > New > Other as shown below Deploying HATS Rich Client Application

2 2. Select Product Configuration 3. Click NEXT Deploying HATS Rich Client Application

3 4. Select Com.ibm.hats.rcp.runtime.extension as product configuration and Type BoatsDemo.Product as File name and select radio button use a launch configuration hostaccess 5. Click Finish Deploying HATS Rich Client Application

4 Step 2. Package for Distribution 1. Click the configuration tab. 2. Remove the following unnecessary plug-ins that eventually increases the product size. o com.ibm.etools.j2ee.core.ws.ext o com.ibm.websphere.* o org.eclipse.debug.core o org.eclipse.haydes.* o org.eclipse.jdt.* o org.eclipse.jem.* o org.eclipse.jst.j2ee.core Deploying HATS Rich Client Application

6 Step 3. Export the Project 1. Click the Eclipse Product Export Wizard 2. Build Eclipse Project--Select distribution method Directory Archive file Deploying HATS Rich Client Application

7 3. Click Finish 4. In order to Distribute the application to the clients, following methods can be utilized: FTP or Web site Network server Deploying HATS Rich Client Application

8 5. Unzip into client directory Execute eclipse Packaging for Existing Eclipse Clients Step 1 Export Project as Eclipse Feature 1. Create location to store HATS runtime features and the site.xml file, e.g. C:\BoatsUpdateSite 2. Right click the rich client project and click Export -> Export Feature, as shown below 3. Click Yes to create the feature if pop-up appears Deploying HATS Rich Client Application

9 4. Select a Feature ID, Name & Version and select the Plug-ins to be included in the new feature. 5. Select the desired features in the product and also provide the Directory path e.g. C:\BoatsUpdateSite Deploying HATS Rich Client Application

11 Step 2 Export the Runtime Features 1. Now, Right click the project Export -> Export HATS Runtime Features Deploying HATS Rich Client Application

12 2. Select Directory when exporting to an update site 3. Select Deploy as Directory 4. Select the same directory as in the previous e.g. C:\BoatsUpdateSite 5. Click Finish Deploying HATS Rich Client Application

13 Create an update site 1. In order to Create an update site Open File menu -> New -> Other Plug-in Development -> Update site Project Deploying HATS Rich Client Application

14 2. Remove the check from Use default location 3. Specify the location of exported plug-ins 4. Click Finish Deploying HATS Rich Client Application

15 5. To Add Features Click on the New Category then Enter Name, Label and Description (Optional) and then Click Save. 6. Click Add Feature 7. Add the following HATS runtime features com.ibm.etools.terminal.beans (nnnn) com.ibm.chats.core (nnnn) com.ibm.hsrendering Deploying HATS Rich Client Application

17 9. Click Build All and Move this update site to Web server for access by clients. HATS maintenance and updates Eclipse uses version of plug-ins to determine if a plug-in has changed Maintenance Re-export and re-deploy the HATS runtime features after applying HATS maintenance. Modifies the update site s site.xml file to reflect any version number changes Updating HATS project Update the plug-in version number, x.y.z x = major version y = minor updates z = routine maintenance Deploying HATS Rich Client Application
