1 Running Blockchain in Docker Containers The following instructions can be used to install the current hyperledger fabric, and run Docker and blockchain code in IBM LinuxONE Community Cloud instances. This blockchain example consists of a smart contract application with four peer nodes. The example will demonstrate a transfer of 10 units from account a to account b. Prerequisites Sign up for a LinuxONE Community Cloud trial account If you have not done so already, register at for a 120-day trial account. You will receive an containing credentials to access the LinuxONE Community Cloud self-service portal. This is where you can start exploring all our available services. Deploy a virtual server instance If you have not deployed a virtual server already, please follow these instructions to create one before proceeding. Make sure you select a flavor (resource definition) with 4 GB of memory (Medium). This quick-start guide has been tested with the following Linux distributions: Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 7.2 SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) 12 Ubuntu Part A: Install Docker and Docker Compose 1. Log on to your virtual server with the linux1 user for RHEL and SLES, or the ubuntu user for Ubuntu. ssh -i <ssh key> linux1@<server IP address> or ssh -i <ssh key> ubuntu@<server IP address> or use an SSH client like PuTTY. 2. Switch to root user. 3. Download and install Docker files. RHEL: Page 1

2 SLES: Quick Start Guide v2.3 a. wget ftp://ftp.unicamp.br/pub/linuxpatch/s390x/redhat/rhel7.2/docker rhel tar.gz b. tar -xvzf docker rhel tar.gz c. mv docker rhel /docker* /bin/ Docker already installed. Proceed to Step Install pip. d. apt-get -y install docker.io= ubuntu6 a. curl " -o "get-pip.py" RHEL, SLES: b. python get-pip.py c. python3 get-pip.py 5. Install Docker Compose. pip install docker-compose Part B: Create a four-peer network with membership services 1. Download Hyperledger Docker Compose files. git clone 2. Switch to the following directory. cd fabric-images/docker-compose/ 3. Set the environment.. setenv.sh 4. Start the Docker daemon. RHEL, SLES: a. nohup docker daemon -g /data/docker -H tcp:// :2375 -H unix:///var/run/docker.sock & b. Hit enter or return Edit the /etc/default/docker file and set DOCKER_OPTS= appropriately. c. vi /etc/default/docker Page 2

3 Restart the Docker daemon. d. systemctl restart docker 5. Run the Docker Compose file for four peers + membership services. docker-compose -f four-peer-ca.yaml up Part C: Deploy the example smart contract application 1. Start a second shell session with root access. Log on to your virtual server with the linux1 user for RHEL and SLES, or the ubuntu user for Ubuntu. ssh -i <ssh key> linux1@<server IP address> or ssh -i <ssh key> ubuntu@<server IP address> or use an SSH client like PuTTY. 2. Switch to root user. 3. Verify Docker containers are running. docker ps -a Page 3

4 4. Connect to the Docker container running Peer vp0. docker exec -it dockercompose_vp0_1 bash 5. Enroll user test_user0. peer network login test_user0 -p MS9qrN8hFjlE 6. Issue the following command (one line) to deploy the example smart contract application, initialize the contract, and propagate to all peers. Variables a and b represent account numbers initialized to 100 and 200, respectively. Please allow approximately 1 minute for the chain code to deploy. peer chaincode deploy -u test_user0 -p github.com/hyperledger/fabric/examples/chaincode/go/chaincode_example02 -c '{"Args": ["init","a", "100", "b", "200"]} 7. Work with the smart contract and interact with the blockchain by issuing the following commands. a. To query account a: 4e654dbd5a1d86cbb30c48e3ab cd0f c '{"Args": ["query", "a"]} The result should be 100. b. To query account b: 4e654dbd5a1d86cbb30c48e3ab cd0f c '{"Args": ["query", "b"]} The result should be 200. c. To transfer 10 units from account a to account b: peer chaincode invoke -u test_user0 -n 4e654dbd5a1d86cbb30c48e3ab cd0f c '{"Args": ["invoke", "a", "b", "10"]} d. Switch to root user (if not in root). 2. Run the following command to install Java: RHEL: yum -y install java openjdk-devel.s390x SLES: zypper --non-interactive install java-1_8_0-openjdk-devel apt-get -y install openjdk-8-jdk To install Node.js: 1. Switch to root user (if not in root). 2. Download the Node.js installation file. RHEL, wget --quiet SLES: a. Install wget apt-get install wget b. Download the Node.js installation file Page 5

Run the following command to install Node.js: RHEL, SLES, cd /usr/local && tar --strip-components 1 -xzf /root/node-v6.7.0-linux-s390x.tar.gz To Test the Java and/or Node.js installation: 1. To test Java: java -version 2. To test Node.js: node -v Handy Commands To stop all Docker containers: docker stop $(docker ps -a -q) To remove all Docker instances: docker rm -f $(docker ps -a -q) To remove all Docker images: docker rmi -f $(docker images -q) Reference Links Page 6
