4 Chapter 1: UBI Q ONE 4.x requirements The Ubiquitech UBI Q ONE is deployed as a single binary installer. Prerequisites and Requirements The following are required for a successful installation: 1 LPAR on IBM System Z with 1 IFL running z/vm: o o o o o o An Enterprise Linux server running RHEL7 or SLES12 with 1 virtual CPU 4 GB RAM Minimum 30 GB free disk space for the job storage area, database and application. For larger installations it is required to analyze the customer base, printing habits etc. to calculate the needed storage. No anti-virus program monitoring or interrupting the UBI Q ONE server directories No proxy server interrupting local communication on the server (localhost/ ) The following libraries/tools are required: o Newt 4 UBI Q ONE Server installation Guide Ubiquitech A/S

5 Chapter 2: Installation on Target system 2.1: Target prerequisites This installation guide is written for SUSE and RHEL. The software can be installed to SUSE11SP3 and RHEL 6.4 or newer versions. For full support of UQI-Q-ONE driver and print formatting server side SUSE12 or RHEL7 or newer is required. 2.2: Install CUPS The UBI Q ONE software rely on CUPS so please make sure it is installed and started. SLES: zypper install cups RHEL: yum install cups Set it to auto start: chkconfig cups on and remote administration: cupsctl --remote-admin --remote-any --share-printers 2.3: Install UBI Q ONE software Download the.bin installer. Open a terminal window on the target machine. Installation should be performed from the root account. To enter root shell type "sudo -s" or "su", then enter root password. Example: chmod +x <filename of the.bin>./<filename of the.bin> chmod +x hspm-4.x.x.bin./hspm-4.x.x.bin 5 UBI Q ONE Server installation Guide Ubiquitech A/S

6 Press <Next> to start the installation. Accept the license terms and make sure all three options are selected before pressing <Install>: Installation starts. When the installation is complete, you can select to start the services or not. 7 2.4: Enable Booklet scripts systemctl stop cups vi /usr/share/cups/mime/cupsfilters.convs and add the following lines: application/pdf application/vnd.cups-pdf 65 pdftopdf-wrapper.sh application/postscript application/vnd.cups-postscript 65 pstops-wrapper.sh application/vnd.adobe-reader-postscript application/vnd.cups-postscript 65 pstopswrapper.sh Save the file systemctl start cups 2.5: SUSE12/RHEL7 or newer vi /etc/cups/cups-files.conf Find SystemGroup and add vdms-run SystemGroup root vdms-run Save the file systemctl restart cups 2.6: SUSE11SP3/RHEL64 or older vi /etc/cups/cupsd.conf go to LogLevel warn line and add a new line after this line SystemGroup root vdms-run Save the file service cups restart 2.7: RHEL all versions SELINUX has to be disabled vi /etc/sysconfig/selinux change the first entry of SELINUX which does not start with # and change it to SELINUX=disabled Linux server need to be rebooted after changing selinux settings 7 UBI Q ONE Server installation Guide Ubiquitech A/S

8 Chapter 3: Setup via web interface To verify the installation please open a web browser and go to the following address: The following page should be displayed: Login information Username: vdmsadmin Password: vdmsdemo 3.1: PS to PCL conversion If a printer does not support Postscript printing the target printer driver will convert the print job to PCL if the appropriate driver is installed. Sometimes the converted print job prints very slow but this can be enhanced by modifying the Ghostscript command line within the PPD file: Search for: gs -q -dbatch replace to: /etc/.vdms/target/gs/bin/gs -q -sstdout=%stderr -dcompressmode=2 -dbatch 8 UBI Q ONE Server installation Guide Ubiquitech A/S

9 3.2: Configuring UBI Q ONE 3.2.1: Adding terminals in UBI Q ONE Open the UBI Q ONE web interface: 1. Open a web browser 2. Enter <server ip address>:8443 and press ENTER and log in 3. Go to Administration/Terminals 4. Press Create terminal 5. Give the terminal a name 6. Enter the ip address of the printer in Terminal address 7. Press the drop down list in Universal printing target and select New Target 8. In the pop up window press upload to select the PPD file to be used for this printer 9. Press Save 10. Under Group Options or Overwrite Group Options select the Vendor from the drop down list. 11. Press Save 12. Press Configure 3.2.2: Adding queues in UBI Q ONE Still in the web interface of UBI Q ONE go to : 1. Administration/queues 2. Click Create Queue 3. Type in the desired name of the Queue 4. 10 By default the print formatting server side is disabled so if you want to reformat the print job to match the target device (tray selection, Ps to PCL conversion etc.) you have to configure the print queues for Universal printing. 5. Click the Universal printing checkmark 6. Press Save Push Print If you would like to configure a queue for PUSH print you need to change settings for the queue 1. In Queue type select Push Queue 2. In Target terminal select the output printer you want the print to be sent to : Rules configuration for hostprint If specific rules are needed this can be configured: 1. Go to Administration/Rules 2. Press Create Rule 3. Enter a name for the rule 4. Select job in pull queue 5. Make sure there is a check mark in Active 6. Press Save 10 UBI Q ONE Server installation Guide Ubiquitech A/S

12 Chapter 4: Printer setup on PC/laptop In order for the user to be able to use print to any of the printers they need to have a pull printer installed. 1. Log into the user s pc as administrator 2. Go to Printers/add printer 3. Do not use the auto search feature but add the printer manually! 4. Choose a shared printer by name and enter the name of the printer you have created under Queues. address or DNS name>:631/printers/ Follow-Me 5. 13 Chapter 5: Tips, tricks and troubleshooting 5.1: UBI Q ONE import tool Can be used to import users from a csv file. To run the tool type: JAVACMD=/opt/vdms/jre/bin/java /opt/vdms/bin/vdms-import-tool 5.2: CUPS Configuration files Cups configuration files are in /etc/cups/printers.conf and /etc/cups/cups.conf 5.3: UBI Q ONE log files The UBI Q ONE log file with information about job processing, printing, user login etc. can be found in /opt/vdsm/logs/server.log 5.4: Adding printers via command line Adding many printers via the CUPS web interface isn t the fastest way to add printers. 14 Chapter 6: Tools In order to make life a little easier when you have a Windows laptop to install from there are some tools which you should install and learn to use. 6.1: Putty Putty is a tool which you can use to make a remote login to the Linux machine where you need to perform the installation. You have to enable sshd service on host machine to allow remote connections. sudo /sbin/chkconfig --add sshd Make sure it is in the chkconfig. sudo /sbin/chkconfig --list sshd Set it to autostart sudo /sbin/chkconfig sshd on To start it manually type: Service sshd start Download link 1. Search for A Windows installer for everything except PuTTYtel and download the.exe file 2. Run the.exe and complete the installation 3. 15 4. Enter the Ip address or hostname and press Open 5. A new terminal window opens. Login with the username and password supplied to you. 6. You are now logged in to the Linux machine and you can perform installations and Linux commands on the machine 6.2: WinSCP WinSCP is a tool you can use to copy files from your laptop to another device on the network. If you are familiar with the old Norton Commander which ran under DOS then you will also be familiar with this tool. Download link 1. Search for the installation package and press the link 2. 16 4. Make sure you are in the Session view! 5. Enter Ip address or hostname of the machine you want to transfer files to 6. Remember to enter username and password 7. 17 On the right side go to the directory where you want the file to be placed, and on the left side mark the file you want to transfer/copy.
