3 VIA EPIA TC-Series Overview Measuring 17 x 17cm, the ultra compact VIA EPIA TC Mini-ITX Mainboard is a highly integrated and configurable x86 platform with rich connectivity and multimedia options that enables the development of a wealth of small, slim and low noise networked systems. The rich built-in feature set of the VIA EPIA TC alleviates the need for system developers to source extra components, reducing cost and time to market. The VIA EPIA TC is available with the VIA C3 processor or the fanless VIA Eden ESP processor. The VIA C3 processor is designed for rich media-intensive applications. The VIA Eden ESP processor is designed for ultra low power, quiet or silent system designs. Enhanced multimedia performance is further delivered through the VIA CLE266 chipset. The VIA CLE266 chipset features integrated VIA UniChrome 2D/3D graphics, an MPEG-2 accelerator with motion compensation, support for the greater memory bandwidth of DDR266 SDRAM and the high transfer speeds of ATA-133. An array of modern storage and expansion options are supported, including an optional onboard CardBus and CompactFlash reader, Direct DOM Support, and a PCI slot. The VIA EPIA TC also offers support for a number of LVDS embedded LCD panels. Fully compatible with Microsoft and Linux operating systems, the VIA EPIA TC can be fitted in a wide-range of slimline Mini-ITX chassis. November 18, Version 1.1

The VIA EPIA TC6000E utilizes VIA s ultra low power VIA Eden ESP processor while the VIA EPIA TC10000 utilizes the robust VIA C3 processor. 7 VIA CLE266 Chipset Overview The VIA Apollo CLE266 Chipset is designed to enable high quality digital video streaming and DVD playback in a new generation of fanless, small form factor PCs and IA devices. The CLE266 features the embedded VIA UniChrome 2D/3D MPEG-2 accelerator, DDR266 support, motion compensation and duo-view support to ensure a rich overall entertainment experience. 8 VIA EPIA TC-Series I/O Back Panel Layout The VIA EPIA TC s ultra compact 17cm by 17cm integrated design supports all the standard legacy x86 connectivity options: PS/2 mouse, PS2 keyboard, parallel port, VGA display, LAN port, two USB 2.0 ports and three audio jacks. The VIA EPIA TC also supports CardBus (Type I and II) and CompactFlash slots. 13 Board Only Power Consumption Power consumption tests were carried out comparing the VIA EPIA TC10000 (running the 1 GHz VIA C3 processor) and the VIA EPIA TC60000E (running with the 600MHz VIA Eden ESP processor) with an Intel 845 chipset-based mainboard running on an Intel Pentium 4. A 256MB DDR-266 SODIMM was used in the testing. 16 Power Consumption of the Board with IDE Devices Power consumption measurements were made of the board with IDE devices. It is useful to know the power consumption of both the board and IDE device for creating a power-efficient system. Power consumption tests were carried out comparing the VIA EPIA TC10000 (running the 1 GHz VIA C3 processor) and the VIA EPIA TC60000E (running with the 600MHz VIA Eden ESP processor). A 40 GB ATA/133 hard drive and a DVD ROM were used in the complete system as well as 256MB DDR- 266 SODIMM. 18 Compatible AC Adapter For the VIA EPIA TC the AC adapter must run at 12V, 5A, and 60W. The required connector dimension is as follows: Inner Diameter = 2.5 mm, Outer Diameter = 5.5mm, and Length >= 11mm. November 18, Version 1.1

19 VIA EPIA TC-Series Linux & Microsoft Driver Support Linux Driver Support The VIA EPIA TC-Series mainboards have a very high degree of support under Linux. Support and drivers are provided through various methods including: Drivers provided by VIA Using a driver built into a distribution package Installing VIA s pre-compiled driver binary Compiling VIA s driver source code Installing a third party driver (such as the ALSA driver from the Advanced Linux Sound Architecture project for integrated audio) Full instructions for the most popular distribution packages are updated monthly and are available for free download from the Linux Arena on The Linux Application notes on VIA Arena also contains further useful information to optimize system performance, such as increasing IDE performance beyond the capabilities of an in-built driver, measuring hard disk performance, enabling hardware monitoring features and other practical guides such as installing CD re-writers, enabling the USB 2.0 controller, and much more. For OEM clients and system integrators developing a product for long term production, other code and other resources may also be made available. You can submit a request either through the Developers portal on VIA Arena, or through your VEPD support contact. Alternatively, VIA in some circumstances will also work towards providing a driver to suite your specific needs. The Linux Arena is updated at least once per month. Other information, notes and links to specific areas of interest can also be found on the EPIA Mainboards driver page. Many OEMs and system integrators also find it valuable to discuss their development with other Linux users in the dedicated Linux Category of the VIA Arena Forums, which is monitored by VIA staff. Microsoft Driver Support VIA EPIA TC offers full support for the complete range of Microsoft operating systems. A Windows XP Embedded support package for VIA EPIA TC mainboards is available on the WinXP Embedded Applications Notes page, to facilitate evaluation and development. OEMs and System Integrators should, however, customize their own binary images according to their actual product specifications and application requirements. Sample component implementation for the CLE266 and Northbridge as well as integrated audio on the VT8235 Southbridge is also provided to assist in development.
