1 Installation Manual Introduction This 5.25 enclosure is designed to provide a solution to connect existing storage devices such as 3.5 IDE hard drive, MO drives, CD devices or DVD devices to IEEE1394a or USB2.0. This 5.25 enclosure can provide peak data transfer rate up to 480Mbps for USB 2.0 interface and 400Mbps for IEEE 1394a interface. Features General Support plug-n-play. Hot- Swap and Wake-UP. 2 HARDWARE INSTALLATION Installing a 3.5 hard drive in to the 5.25 enclosure Step 1: Take off the top cover of the 5.25 enclosure as shown in diagram. Step 2: Connect the IDE cable and power cable to the 3.5 hard drive and secure the 3.5 hard drive with the screws provided as shown in diagram. 2

3 Step 3: Put the top cover of the 5.25 enclosure back in place and secure the enclosure with screws as shown in diagram. Step 4: Connect the appropriate cables to the 5.25 enclosure. Make sure the polarity of the AC-DC 12VDC power supply is correct. If the polarity is not correct, you can damage the electronic section of the 52.5 enclosure. Notice: For all existing storage devices such as 3.5 IDE hard drives, please make sure the JUMPER setting set to MASTER before installing into 3.5 combo enclosure. (However, for certain hard drives, you may need to set the jumper as Cable Select.) 3

4 Installing a 3.5 hard drive in to the 5.25 enclosure Step 1: Take off the top cover of the 5.25 enclosure as shown in diagram. Step 2: Disconnect the two LED cables from the back panel and remove the front panel. Gently slide the CD/DVD device into the front panel and connect the IDE, audio and power cable to the device. Secure the CD/DVD device with the screws provided as shown in diagram. 4

5 Step 3: Put the top cover of the 5.25 enclosure back in place and secure the enclosure with screws as shown in diagram. Step 4: Connect the appropriate cables to the 5.25 enclosure. Make sure the polarity of the AC-DC 12VDC power supply is correct. If the polarity is not correct, you can damage the electronic section of the 5.25 enclosure. Note for Combo version: You can only connect the 5.25 enclosure to one interface at the same time. If you choose to use the USB 2.0 interface, you can not use the IEEE 1394a interface or vice versa. 5

6 SOFTWARE INSTALLATION Note: This software installation section assumes that your computer system already have 1394a or USB 2.0 ports available for connecting the 5.25 enclosure and all the appropriate drivers have been property installed. A. Installing USB 2.0 driver (For USB 2.0 version) For Windows 98/98SE Windows 98/98SE does not include a USB Mass Storage driver so you need to install the provided Windows 98/98SE driver. The driver is located in \Prolific\PL2506_2507 directory of the Driver CD. For Windows ME, 2000 & XP No need for additional drivers because Microsoft already provides an USB Mass Storage driver with Windows ME, 2000 & XP operating system. Once you connect the 5.25 enclosure to the USB 2.0 port on your system, Windows should automatically detect the device and install the appropriate drivers. For Mac OS No need for additional driver for Mac OS 9.0 or above. For Mac OS 8.6, you must install the USB Mass Storage support version B. Installing Firewire 1394a driver (For Combo version) For Windows 98SE, ME, 2000 & XP No need for additional driver because Microsoft already provides a build-in SBP-2 driver with Windows 98, 98SE, ME, 2000 & XP. Once you connect the 5.25 enclosure to the 1394a port on your system, Windows should automatically detect the device and install the appropriate drivers.
