1 Installation Manual Introduction This 5.25 enclosure is designed to provide a solution to connect existing storage devices such as 3.5 IDE hard drive, MO drives, CD devices or DVD devices to USB2.0 or Firewire 1394a, an ideal interconnect for multimedia application. This 5.25 enclosure can provide peak data transfer rate up to 480Mbps for USB 2.0 interface and 400Mbps for Firewire 1394a interface. Features General Support plug-n-play. Hot- Swap and Wake-UP. 3 soon as possible. Notice: For all existing storage devices such as 3.5 IDE hard drives, please make sure the JUMPER setting set to MASTER before installing into 5.25 Enclosure. (However, for certain hard drives, you may need to set the jumper as Cable Select.) HARDWARE INSTALLATION Installing a CD/DVD devices into the 5.25 enclosure Step 1: Slowly remove the rear cover Step 2:

4 Slide the CD/DVD device into the front bay Step 3: Align the CD/DVD device and secure it with the screw provided Step 4:

5 1) Connect the power connector to CD/DVD device 2) Connect the IDE cable to CD/DVD device 3) Connect the audio cable to CD/DVD device Step 5: Fold the cables and close back the rear cover. Secure the rear cover with the screw provided.

6 Installing a 3.5 hard drive into the 5.25 enclosure Step 1: Slowly remove the rear cover Step 2: Close the front bay with the cover provided

7 Step 3: Hold the hard drive and align into the enclosure Step 4: Align the hard drive and secure it with the screw provided

8 Step 5: 1) Connect the power connector to hard drive 2) Connect the IDE cable to hard drive 3) Connect the RED LED cable to P4 4) Connect the GREEN LED cable to P3 Step 6: Fold the cables and close back the rear cover. Secure the rear cover with the screw provided.

9 After securing the CD/DVD device or hard drive, you can cover the screw or screw hole using the rubber sheet provided. Connect the appropriate cables to the 5.25 enclosure. Make sure the polarity of the AC-DC 12VDC power supply is correct. If the polarity is not correct, you can damage the electronic section of the 5.25 enclosure. SOFTWARE INSTALLATION Note: This software installation section assumes that your computer system already has USB 2.0 or Firewire 1394a ports available for connecting the 5.25 enclosure and all the appropriate drivers have been property installed. A. Installing USB 2.0 driver (For USB 2.0 version) For Windows 98/98SE Windows 98/98SE does not include a USB Mass Storage driver so you need to install Windows 98/98SE driver. The driver is located in \Prolific\PL2506_2507 directory of the Driver CD. For Windows ME, 2000 & XP

10 No need for additional drivers because Microsoft already provides an USB Mass Storage driver with Windows ME, 2000& XP operating system. Once you connect the 5.25 enclosure to the USB 2.0 port on your system, Windows should automatically detect the device and install the appropriate drivers. B. Installing Firewire 1394a driver (For Combo version) For Windows 98SE, ME, 2000 & XP No need for additional drivers because Microsoft already provides a build-in SBP-2 driver with Windows 98SE, ME, 2000 & XP operating system. Once you connect the 5.25 enclosure to the 1394a port on your system, Windows should automatically detect the device and install the appropriate drivers. For Combo version USB 2.0 (For Windows 98/98SE) Windows 98/98SE does not include a USB Mass Storage driver so you need to install Windows 98/98SE driver. The driver is located in \Prolific\PL3507\Win98 directory. Click Setup and follow the on screen instruction to install the appropriate drivers.
