2 PLUS Introducing DriveExplorer DriveExplorer Software is an easy-to-use, cost-effective tool designed for Microsoft Windows 95, Windows NT (4.0 or greater), and Windows CE (2.0 or greater) operating systems. This application provides you with an intuitive means for monitoring and configuring your Allen-Bradley drives and communication adapters. DriveExplorer offers several connections: DeviceNet Solution ControlNet Solution Networked Solutions Using DriveExplorer with DeviceNet or ControlNet allows local or network communication with compatible products and adapters. DeviceNet Solution 1336 PLUS II 1305 DRIVE Point-to-Point Solutions 1203-GU GU6 DeviceNet The DeviceNet solution utilizes the 1203-GU6 (or 1336-GM6) Enhanced DeviceNet Communication Module, allowing DriveExplorer to communicate with one or more of the drives shown from a single access point. ControlNet Solution 1336 PLUS II 1336 IMPACT DRIVE ControlNet 1203-CN CN1 The ControlNet solution utilizes the 1203-CN1 ControlNet Communication Module, allowing DriveExplorer to communicate with one or more of the drives shown from a single access point. 2

3 Point-to-Point Solutions Using a 1203-GD2 Module 1336 PLUS 1203-GD2 A standard 1203-GD2/GK2 (or 1336-GM2) Serial Communication Module allows easy point-to-point access. Using a 1203-SSS Converter 1305 DRIVE 1203-SSS The 1203-SSS Smart Self-powered Serial Converter provides a quick, portable connection for DriveExplorer from a PC or handheld PC (H/PC). No separate power supply is needed. Bulletin 160 Drive with a 160-RS1 Adapter Bulletin 160 with 160-RS1 Adapter 1 Null Cable 2 Converter H/PC A 160-RS1 Serial Adapter allows direct RS-232 serial interface to a PC or H/PC. 1 Consult factory for availability. 2 Required for H/PC usage.

Easy online programming Point-to-point and networking solutions View and modify drive and adapter parameters Save, restore, and print parameter information Create custom parameter views with cut, copy, and paste or drag and drop functionality Edit, upload and download parameter links Context sensitive help World Wide Web support and updates DriveExplorer software is intuitive to users familiar with Microsoft Windows Explorer. With DriveExplorer, users can manage product network addresses and parameters, similar to the file management capability of Windows Explorer. Fast and flexible parameter management capabilities inherent in DriveExplorer help reduce time spent programming and troubleshooting drives. Dialog Boxes provide intuitive methods for online programming. A Microsoft Windows Explorer-like interface makes it quick and easy to view and modify both Driveand Adapter parameters. Networked solutions allow communication with one or more products from a single access point. Flexible Parameter Save options allow full or partial parameter saves. 4

5 Easy online programming, familiar user interface, and online help simplify drive start-ups. Custom parameter views allow setups for your particular applications. Create your own custom views to monitor selected parameters from different drives and adapters. Software connections between two parameters are quickly established in products that support linking operations. Online Help can be accessed from the HELP menu or by pressing the F1 key in Windows 95 or Windows NT. 5

6 Specifications, Compatible Products and Application Guide. Specifications DriveExplorer supports baud rates of 9600 and 19.2K. Both BCC and CRC-16 checksums are supported. Configuration of the serial port is quick and accomplished with a single dialog box. Simply select the Communication Port, the Baud Rate and Checksum Type and configuration is complete. Connecting DriveExplorer To connect DriveExplorer to one of the products shown in the table you will need: An adapter with an RS-232 Serial connection using the DF-1 protocol Either a PC or H/PC running DriveExplorer The appropriate cables Compatible Handheld Personal Computers (H/PCs) DriveExplorer is designed for the Windows CE operating system, which is used by the rapidly growing H/PC market. DriveExplorer Requirements Windows 95/Windows NT Windows 95 or Windows NT (4.0 or greater), personal computer using MHz processor or better with at least 16 MB of RAM, and 2 MB of hard disk space, VGA Monitor, CD-ROM drive (for installation only), Mouse or other Windows 95 pointing device. Windows CE (SH3 processor) Windows CE 2.0 or greater, handheld personal computer (H/PC) using SH3 processor, with at least 12 MB of RAM and 650K of available RAM. Windows CE (MIPS processor) Windows CE 2.0 or greater, handheld personal computer (H/PC) using MIPS processor with at least 12 MB of RAM and 820K of available RAM.
