3 DATA/VIDEO PROJECTION Criteria for business presentations For business presentations the room should not be darkened. The projection screen, however, should be shielded against direct light because the projector can make a wall only lighter, not darker. Formula for the light output of the projector Light output (in lumens) = 600 x projection surface (in square meters) Projection technology The most common technologies on the market are LCD and DLP. With LCD projectors mirrors split up the white light of the lamp into the basic colours red, green, blue. After penetrating the corresponding LCD panel, the colours are re-assembled with the help of a prism, and thus the picture is restored and the lens can project it on the screen. With DLP projectors the white light of the lamp passes a rotating colour wheel and micro mirrors project the different colours created by the colour wheel on a DLP chip. The lens projects the coloured light on the screen and produces the picture. Mobile models Frequent travellers with a projector and a notebook in their luggage appreciate small weight, between 1 and 2 kg. The light output should be at least 1500 lumens (ANSI) for projections even in light rooms. Because of the small size of the units connectivity is limited to the most important sources, normally an RGB/VGA input for the computer signal as well as S-Video and Video input and a Audio input. Desktop models The dominant features are high quality and performance. The light output varies between 2000 and 4000 lumens (ANSI). Zoom lenses with a bigger focal length for greater projection distances are customary. Moreover, special presentation aids are standard, such as picturein-picture function, navigation of the computer mouse via remote control and a good on-screen menu with storable pre-sets. Installation models In the upper range the light output has increased over the years and is now exceeding lumens (ANSI). The important features are: a wide spectrum of interchangeable lenses, high operation safety, due to several lamps and the option of remote maintenance and remote control via a multimedia control unit, e.g. via a network connection. Advantages of projectors Really large pictures of up to 10 meters width can only be easily realized with projectors. The units are portable and easy to operate everywhere. Home cinema models The amateur who cares about photography and film has high expectations when it comes to projecting images, no matter whether these are slides, pictures or videos. With the new digital technologies procedures have changed considerably, but not demands as to picture quality. 17 MULTIMEDIA TROLLEY KINDERMANN MultiMedia trolley The mobile conference pro The idea KINDERMANN sets an example with his new idea of intelligent MultiMedia applications in the conference room. The solution is a fully equipped MultiMedia trolley, which harbours the whole presentation technology in one piece of furniture and is ready for use in no time. It takes only 60 seconds until a picture is projected on the wall. Thus the MultiMedia trolley transforms any room into a conference room, any classroom or lecture room into a media centre. The components The MultiMedia trolley includes all units from the PC to the projector, from the powerful Audio system up to a socket system with mains connection and interface for external connections, e.g. network and Internet. Moreover there is room available for a video recorder or a DVD player. All components are protected against unauthorized use when the mirror system is closed and the door is locked! The projector The trolley is, e.g., equipped with the new KINDERMANN KX 2900 active, which allows an interactive presentation. This becomes possible by combining a projector with an integrated VGA camera and a telescope pointer with an infrared sender. The lecturer can work at the projection wall as if equipped with mouse and keyboard. The safety package The MultiMedia trolley features an electronic control system which eminently contributes to the safety of the whole unit. When the projection mirror is opened, the projector is automatically switched on via the serial interface. If the mirror is closed for more than 10 seconds the projector is automatically switched off. The operating status is indicated by two LEDs. The switching off is electronically controlled in order to protect the interior of the trolley against overheating. The features The KINDERMANN MultiMedia trolley is a premium piece of furniture with a universal projector holder, a double mirror projection flap, a lockable media compartment and lockable double castors. The PC is not automatically supplied but available as an option. 17

The MultiMedia desk has been designed in cooperation with educationalists and experts of presentation technology. Great weight has been laid on ergonomics and educational needs in order to support the use of the new digital media in the classroom. The image is projected on the screen via a lockable mirror flap. If the projector is not in use the mirror flap is closed and the desk surface is level. When the flap is opened, the projector is automatically switched on. When the flap is closed, the projector automatically switches to standby mode. The display integrated in the desktop allows the teacher to follow the projection without losing sight of his class. The compartment on the right harbours the whole projection technology, the compartment on the left with the drawer and one shelf can be used for storing teaching material or other equipment.
