Planned availability date May 2009 Description Performance, productivity, and portability The ThinkPad X200s notebook computers offer uncompromised performance, productivity, and various technologies to improve productivity and reliability. They also offer extremely long battery life in a thin, light, and very portable small form factor that makes them easy to carry anywhere your business or leisure takes you. The ThinkPad X200s systems include models starting at only 1.10 kg (2.43 lb). Models that feature LED backlight displays meet the EPEAT Gold standard and all other models meet the EPEAT Silver standard for energy and cost savings. All models are EPA ENERGY STAR 4.0- compliant for energy efficiency and are GREENGUARD indoor air quality certified. ThinkPad X200s processor technology ThinkPad X200s systems incorporate the new Intel Centrino 2 family of laptop processors with vpro technology. 4 Low voltage Intel Core 2 Duo 64-bit processors deliver excellent levels of system responsiveness with lower power consumption resulting in extended battery life and increased mobility. Intel GS45 Express chip set offers improved graphics and increased I/O bandwidth as well as improved storage and reliability for embedded applications. Intel integrated Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD offers power-optimized performance. This integrated approach yields better power management and more battery life. Wide panel design uses a wide 307-mm (12.1-in) screen format that improves the multitasking capability by keeping more windows open next to each other. In addition, the new, full-size keyboard gives you the ultimate typing experience in the ultraportable space. Selected models feature LED backlight panels. LED backlight display panels are super bright yet consume less power and are lighter than regular display panels. These features allow extremely thin design and contribute to long battery life. These models feature WXGA+ display panels with 1440 x 900 pixels. The LED backlight panel models also feature an extremely strong and light top cover design for the ThinkPad roll cage by combining carbon fiber and glass fiber. In addition to being stronger and lighter than Titanium, the glass fiber in the cover guarantees superior wireless transmission. ThinkLight keyboard light lets you keep on working when there is limited light. Integrated 1.3 megapixel camera with digital zoom (focus range: 33 to 330 cm) on selected models. Three types of batteries offer the best weight and battery life. Standard memory configurations: 1 GB; 2 GB; 3 GB (2 GB + 1 GB); 4 GB (2 GB x 2); PC DDR3 SDRAM 1067 MHz SO DIMMs. Note: Lenovo notebooks have a new 64-bit architecture. Memory can be expanded to 3 or 4 GB of addressable memory, depending on whether the operating system is 32- or 64- bit. Notebooks with a Windows Vista 32-bit or previous Windows 32-bit operating system can support up to 3 GB of addressable memory. Notebooks with a Windows Vista 64-bit operating system can support up to 4 GB of addressable memory. Intel Active Management Technology (AMT) 4.1 is a hardware-based technology that facilitates remote out-of-band management of PCs through a small, secondary processor located on the system board. 5 and worm-like traffic received or transmitted by the remote system. Administrators can also restart a corrupted (or missing) operating system and rebuild a corrupted hard drive over the network. Using Intel AMT 4.1, IT managers can remotely discover, repair, and protect wireless notebooks. Intel AMT 4.1 features include enhanced asset management, remote systems diagnostics, network protection, and security -- all independent of the operating system's functional state -- resulting in reduced on-site support costs. Windows Vista Business, Business 64-bit, Home Basic, and Ultimate operating systems are available on selected models. Online data backup (OLDB) Online data backup safeguards your employee and business data from accidents, operating system and application errors, hard drive failures, theft, and other unexpected risks. OLDB is available on all ThinkPad products in selected countries. For more details on Lenovo OLDB offerings, including the languages supported, visit Keyboard with TrackPoint and enhanced features The keyboard has the familiar layout of a ThinkPad notebook with the ThinkVantage button and function keys that allow you to quickly access system functions such as power management control. The ThinkPad X200s models have a new full-size keyboard that will enable more productive and efficient typing in the ultraportable space. Solid-state drive (SSD) The new ThinkPad X200s notebooks offer SSD technology. 64 and 128 GB SATA SSDs with 2.5-in adaptive covers are available. It enables ultraportable users to charge an additional battery in the office or on the road (only X200 series batteries) and supports docking functions with any ThinkPad X200 series product. The ac adapter also charges the battery pack when it is installed in the computer. Li-Ion battery pack A four-, six-, or nine-cell Li-Ion battery pack is shipped with the system. The nine-cell battery has an extended life up to 13.5 hours depending on the configuration. The battery pack is an internal power source to the computer when the ac adapter is not available. The battery pack is rechargeable and is charged using the ac adapter with the system. All ThinkPad X200s models come with the new and improved Battery Stretch feature. This feature allows you to squeeze extra minutes out of your notebook when it appears that the battery is about to run out. Certain product family features are sometimes limited to select models that may not be available in all countries. Some combinations of features are not supported. Software Non-Lenovo software The non-lenovo software programs listed in this section may be licensed to you under the non-lenovo manufacturer's, supplier's, or publisher's terms and conditions. After installation of the supported option, Lenovo customers must contact the WWAN carrier to activate service; requires separate service contract with the WWAN carrier; monthly service charges and air time charges will apply; roaming charges may also apply. The WWAN carrier, not Lenovo, is solely responsible for the WWAN data service. Service is not available in all areas; actual throughput speeds may vary. The Intel WiFi Link 5100 (1 x 2) and WiFi Link 5300 (3 x 3) follow a, b, g, and draft n specifications. The WiFi Alliance is certifying products based on n Draft 2.0 standard. The Intel 5100 Series Wireless Card is capable of supporting transfer rates of up to 150 Mbps. The maximum speed depends on the access point device and the number of integrated antennas used for connection. 10 The V.90 modem can receive data at up to 56 Kbps from a compatible service provider and transmit data at up to 31.2 Kbps. Public networks currently limit maximum download speeds to about 53 Kbps. Actual speeds depend on many factors and are often less than the maximum possible. 11 Public network download speeds are limited to 53 Kbps. Upload speeds are limited to 48 Kbps for V.92 modems. A suite of self-recovery tools to help users diagnose and recover - even if the operating system does not boot. 13 Intel Turbo Memory is nonvolatile cache technology: Instead of booting from the hard drive, a notebook using Intel Turbo Memory turns to standard flash memory. Compatibility and supported products Contact your ThinkPad representative for a list of supported features and options Limitations ThinkPad X200s notebooks have 64-bit processors and can support a Windows Vista 64-bit operating system that can address up to 4 GB of memory. The current Windows Vista operating systems that are available in this announcement are 32- and 64-bit operating systems and can address 3 GB and 4 GB respectfully. Planning information Cable orders All cables are included in the shipment group. Installability The ThinkPad X200s ultraportable notebooks require approximately 20 minutes for installation, which includes unpacking, setting up, and powering on the system. Additional time is required to install optional memory and other optional features. Security, auditability, and control Standard security features Passwords These password-protection mechanisms are available: Power-on passwords to help protect the system from unauthorized use Supervisor password for use by a system administrator HDD password to help protect data on the removable HDD SDD password to help protect data on an SSD In addition, an optional locking device in the security slot provides physical security. 11 Warranty period System hardware: One year on parts and labor (machine type 7462) Three years on parts and labor (machine type 7469) System battery: One year Optional Lenovo features initially installed in a Lenovo system carry the same warranty period as the system. If installed after the initial system installation, they carry the balance of the system warranty or the optional feature warranty, whichever is greater. Warranty service If required, your service provider provides repair or exchange service depending on the type of warranty service specified for the machine. A service technician will attempt to resolve your problem over the telephone. You must follow the problem determination and resolution procedures. Scheduling of service will depend upon the time of your call and is subject to parts availability. Service levels are response time objectives and are not guaranteed. The specified level of warranty service may not be available in all worldwide locations. Additional charges may apply outside your service providers normal service area. Customer replaceable unit (CRU) service Under CRU service, your service provider will ship CRUs to you for installation by you. CRU information and replacement instructions are shipped with your product and are available from Lenovo at any time upon request. CRUs that are easily installed by you are called self-service CRUs, while optional-service CRUs may require some technical skill and tools. Installation of self-service CRUs is your responsibility.
