2 Description PKard Reader (app) is a mobile web browser that enables smart card authentication. PKard Reader does not require any certificates to be installed onto the ipad or iphone as it reads the certificates directly from the card. The PKard Reader app license is bundled at no additional cost with licensed card readers or support can be added as an in-app purchase for unbundled readers. Using PKard Reader Connect your reader to your ios device, you may be presented with a dialog stating that the accessory requires an app and will direct you to the App Store, and download the PKard Reader app from the App Store. Once the Application is installed, tap the icon to launch PKard Reader. You will be asked to register the product, and then to select a group of bookmarks based on the branch of government with which you are associated. To use PKard Reader, insert your smart card into the reader, and then type in the desired URL, use one of the provided bookmarks, or use the camera icon to scan a QR code. When authentication is needed, you may be prompted to select a certificate and then enter the card's PIN number. 3 To scan a QR code, tap the address bar to display the keyboard. Above the keyboard you will notice a camera icon, tap it. PKard Reader will ask you for permission in order to use your camera the first time you attempt to scan a QR code. Once you have allowed access to the camera the screen will change to Code Scanner screen. Aim the code scanner at a QR code so that the entire code is within the box; the code can be on a webpage or printed. If it contains a URL then PKard Reader will begin to open the website. 5 PKard Reader Buttons Detailed below are descriptions of each of the buttons you will find within the app: 1. Card Slot Status No icon indicates that no reader could be found. The card reader is ready, but no card has been inserted. The card reader is ready, and the card is initializing. The card reader is ready, and the card is ready to use. The card reader is ready, but card is powered off. There was a problem with the reader hardware. There was a problem with the reader, reading the card, or the card is not supported. 2. Address Bar The address bar works just like any other browser address bar. You are not limited to which websites you can get to unless the site is running a protocol that isn't supported by ios; e.g. Flash, Java, or Active X. 3. Google Search Our Google search bar provides a search box to carry out web searches, and functions much like you'd expect in any other web browser. PKard Reader User Manual 5

6 4. Page Navigation These buttons allow you to browse back and forth to pages you have previously visited. 5. Share The Share button allows you to perform different tasks such as a Secure Reset, adding a new bookmark, or sending a link to the page you are on. Secure Reset removes any browser and certificate cache, as well as close any open tabs. This is a great utility to use if you are having trouble with accessing a website. Add Bookmark allows you to create your own custom bookmarks based on the page you are currently visiting to PKard Reader. Mail Link to this Page opens up a new for you to send a link to the page you are visiting. When viewing a document like a PDF, you can use the Share button to open the document in a different app or print to an ios supported printer. 6. Bookmarks During the setup of PKard Reader you were prompted to select the branch(es) of government or military you are associated with. Doing so prompts PKard Reader to create bookmark folders based upon that selection and include some of the most common URLs. These bookmarks are not permanent and can be deleted. 7 7. Tabs PKard Reader supports the ability to have several tabbed windows open. The plus sign will create a new tabbed window, and to close that window, tap the tab button, and then swipe the desired window in an upward motion. 8. Settings The Settings menu contains a variety of information and options that you can enable or disable including our Diagnostic logs. About displays the version and build number of PKard Reader that is installed. By tapping this button you are able to access the licensing agreement, registration page, and this user manual. Accept Cookies allows you to change how cookies are managed within the app. Do Not Track disables site tracking. Allow New Tabs allows websites to open windows in a new tab. This does not affect tabs you open. Clear Cookies and Data clears your current website information. Clear Certificate Cache clears any cached certificate information. Tapping the reader icon displays basic information about the connected reader and your certificates. Lock Screen enables or disables the Thursby lock screen when you exit the app or remove your card. Advanced will allow you to change more advanced options within PKard Reader, and contact Thursby support. PKard Reader User Manual 7

8 Advanced User Agent: This allows PKard to changed the user agent it sends to websites. Changing the user agent allows PKard to emulate another web browser. Contact Support will open up your and allow you to send an to Thursby support. Diagnostics will allow you to enable Diagnostic Mode and send the log file to Thursby support. FIPS Mode forces FIPS-140 level of encryption when connecting to web servers. Managed Application Mode is not supported in PKard Reader. Zero Data At Rest configures PKard to not store any information locally. Enable CAC Dual Persona enables and disables PIV on CAC certificates. Troubleshooting PKard Reader There might be an instance where the reader doesn't read your card correctly or fails to recognize that there is any card has been inserted. If you see the icon that states a card read failure, try to remove and reinsert your card. If this doesn t work, tap the Share button and select Secure Reset. If you are still unable to get PKard Reader to read your card, try terminating the app by tapping your home button twice to view a list of running apps on your device, then swipe upwards. After the app is closed, tap your home button to return to your home screen and relaunch PKard Reader PKard Reader User Manual 8

This equipment generates, uses and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the instructions, may cause harmful interference to radio communications. However, there is no guarantee that interference will not occur in a particular installation. If this equipment does cause harmful interference to radio or television reception, which can be determined by turning the equipment off and on, the user is encouraged to try to correct the interference by one or more of the following measures: Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna. Increase the separation between the equipment and receiver. Connect the equipment into an outlet on a circuit different from that to which the receiver is connected.
